Hey hey, my favorites 😀💚

Zardi Cross delivers a gripping crime thriller in System: The Limit, a three-part narrative that boldly challenges societal norms and keeps readers questioning the world around them. With its themes of corruption, power, and manipulation, the story weaves a complex web that mirrors some of today’s pressing issues.

The second installment stands out as an intense exploration of trust, truth, and the lengths individuals will go to uncover—or conceal—the truth. Ian Dunne’s reappearance, after years in hiding, is the linchpin of the plot, drawing the investigative journalist into a deadly game with global stakes. The pacing is taut, and the tension builds as they delve deeper into the secrets of “the investors” and their far-reaching plans.

While the story is undeniably thought-provoking, the complexity of the plot occasionally overshadows character development. Ian and the journalist are intriguing, but their motivations and emotional depth feel underexplored at times. Additionally, some twists, while surprising, could have benefited from stronger groundwork to amplify their impact.

The book excels, however, in its commentary on media, medicine, and power dynamics, forcing readers to confront uncomfortable truths about the systems we rely on. Cross’s writing is sharp and unflinching, making this a worthwhile read for fans of crime thrillers and political intrigue.

System: The Limit is a thought-provoking journey, even if it doesn’t fully stick the landing for all readers. It’s not perfect, but its ambition and timely themes make it a worthwhile addition to the genre.

I wound up not finishing this book. I wanted to like this book, as the cover looked cool. Unfortunately, the writing felt very clinical and also too focused on the details. We find out numerical information about every single aspect of the characters, but not much beyond that.
