**Book Review: *When the Fake Snow Falls* by Emma Jackson**
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4/5 stars)
*When the Fake Snow Falls* is the perfect winter read for anyone in search of a cosy, heartwarming festive romance. It’s a delightful story that effortlessly blends charm with holiday spirit, making it an ideal pick for a cozy evening by the fire or a wintery weekend binge.
The plot is simple but sweet: the story revolves around a festive romance set in a small town, complete with fake snow, Christmas markets, and all the cozy trimmings. While the storyline isn't groundbreaking, it does exactly what it sets out to do—deliver a feel-good, predictable holiday romance that wraps up in a neat bow. There's a touch of magic in the simplicity of it, and it works beautifully for the genre.
What really made this book shine for me were the characters. The main duo, in particular, were both likable and relatable, with chemistry that felt genuine and natural. The heroine is warm and endearing, and the hero is charming without being overly swoon-worthy or too perfect. Their interactions feel real, with just the right balance of sweetness and tension. The supporting cast also adds to the coziness of the story without stealing the show, helping to create a warm, inviting atmosphere.
I also loved the setting. The small-town vibes and festive decorations create a dreamy holiday backdrop, and the "fake snow" adds a bit of whimsy to the story. It’s the kind of setting that makes you want to curl up with a hot chocolate and lose yourself in the pages. The book really brings the holiday magic to life, even if it’s not a groundbreaking plot.
That said, this book is predictable in a way that’s part of its charm. There aren't many surprises along the way, and the romance follows a familiar arc, but that's exactly what makes it so easy to enjoy. It’s the kind of book that doesn’t demand too much from the reader but still manages to tug at the heartstrings.
In short, *When the Fake Snow Falls* is a feel-good, festive read that will leave you with a smile on your face. It’s cozy, heartwarming, and full of holiday cheer, with lovable characters and just enough romance to make your heart flutter. If you're looking for a light, feel-good romance to get you into the holiday spirit, this is definitely worth picking up!
This book was such a fun read right before Christmas. Candace gives Chase her number by mistake, but they start a friendship from the mixup. When Chase needs a date to his Christmas party to keep his boss from flirting with him, Candace agrees to fake date him. Until the feelings start to become real.
I recommend this book during the Christmas season. Thank you NetGalley for a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This was so cute!
I loved that even though the story took place in Florida, there were still cozy Christmas vibes!
This story was pretty fast-paced, which I liked. There was chemistry right away even though they were fake dating. You could tell it was real.
I loved all the characters but wish they could have communicated better, lol.
I had a feeling what the small twist was, but I'm glad it was dealt with pretty fast.
I hate the third act break up, but I'm glad that this was overwith pretty fast.
I loved a Christmas HEA!
I would definitely recommend this!
THIS WAS SO FUCKING CUTE I LOVED EVERY SECOND OF THIS!! I seriously need more from this author ASAP PRONTO.
If you’re looking for a fun book to read while you’re off work over the holidays, look no further!
When The Fake Snow Falls is a Christmas romance set in Florida with the best “meet-cute” I’ve ever read. The banter between the two characters was so good, I could have read their text messages all day long.
Although the “he just likes me as a friend” thing felt a little overdone I liked the layers that contributed to the plot. It wasn’t your typical miscommunication trope (although there was a bit of that), there were other things getting in the way of Candice and Chase being together that really brought this book up to the next level.
I always know I’m in for a good time when I pick up one of Garvin’s books and When The Fake Snow Falls is no exception, plus they’re all available on Kindle Unlimited!
I think Miles said it best when he said “Daddy Chase.” I’ve tried to manage my thoughts around this and I’ve just realized — besides being so meticulous about cleaning (we can’t win them all, right?) Daddy Chase is book boyfriend.
Candace herself is a very strong, fierce written character. She knows herself a lot more than I did at the good old age of 27. We don’t get a lot of her backstory, so I credit her adorably cute parents for that.
This was not just a slow burn book, it was a smoldering fire. The type of which ultimately happens to be my favorite. The supporting cast was well placed, there wasn’t anyone out of position or just haphazardly thrown in without thought to overcomplicate things.
While this type of book is my escape, and I enjoy reading it, I don’t usually give 5 to anything that doesn’t move me in some sort of way. As a rom-com, this is a five star Christmas read. Will I recommend it for holiday season? Heck yes I will! Will I recommend it just because someone is looking for a good book?
4.5/5 stars!
Heather Garvin needs to buy me another Kindle because the steam from the slow burn and the chemistry melted my device! 🤣
This book was SO. MUCH. FUN. We've got Candace, a stylist who bumps into a gorgeous man one day at a coffee shop one day. Chase, said, hottie, is a SMOOTH operator. After a HUGE misunderstanding that left me gasping, we're treated to some seriously fun banter between our two main characters. Candace, unsure of just how to feel about this guy, agrees out of the kindness of her heart (and maybe a crush) to be his fake date at his company's Christmas party. But of course they need to practice ahead of time to make sure it's real. What follows is, as Chase would put it..."messy"...but in the BEST way!
Contemporary romance readers have read the fake dating trope too many times to count, but Heather Garvin makes it feel fresh and exciting! She's got a real gem in Chase, who kept me blushing and on the edge of my seat! The spice was FANTASTIC. The ensemble cast was so fun as well. I waited until December to treat myself to this read, but I now regret it because it was SOO good, and can honestly be enjoyed any time of year. It was beautifully paced and wound up being the perfect escape during the holiday season. This was my first book by Garvin, but it DEFINITELY won't be my last!!
Trigger warning: unwanted advances in the workplace

i really enjoyed the overall plot of this book - i think how our MCs starting talking was unique and not cringy and their banter was top tier. Our MMC left a note asking for her number, she gave it - but low & behold the note wasn’t meant for her.
I feel like our MMC was a huge golden retriever book boyfriend - he constantly showed her how he was interested and she just was blatantly oblivious. I was almost frustrated with the FMC for a good majority of the book. I felt like the “let’s just be friends” was used too long in this! A fake dating has to have the mutual pining and tension/angst build up for it to be successful, and while that was there it felt a bit tooo slow for me, but that’s just my opinion. 😊
Once we got to about 45% into the book, I was hooked. I really enjoyed them together. The spice was well done and the curveball at the party they went too was fun! I didn’t see that coming.
Overall, I did enjoy it! I was a bit bored at the beginning but overall I would recommend! 😊
I am such a sucker for fake dating to lovers, so this was DEF my kind of book! :)
Candace Hanes is no stranger to the dating scene. In fact, she's been on nothing but casual dates since her last serious relationship ended years ago. But as soon as Chase Mitchell asks for her number on a discarded receipt, she's smitten. Like really and utterly smitten with him. However, his number wasn't meant for her...it was meant for the barista behind the bar. OOOOPS. Chase admits he needs a fake date for his company's Christmas party to keep his insufferable boss from cornering him under the mistletoe... again. However, Candace has to find a way to make it through all o f these practice dates, subtle touches, and fake kisses without "catching feelings." I LOVED the authors descriptions! they were extremely detailed, which made me feel like I was actually in the story myself. The chemistry between these characters is UNMATCHED! Though the book is single POV, it was very clear how Chase felt about Candace, which I also truly enjoyed.
Chase was an adorable cinnamon roll & Candace was her own worst enemy at times.
Tropes:
- strangers to friends to lovers
- golden retriever
- fake dating
- slow burn
- open door
- single POV
Thank you to NetGalley and Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op for providing this book in exchange for my honest opinions!!! :)
I really enjoy this book. It feels like a Hallmark movie
Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for the book
LOOOOVED ITTTTT!!! SOOOO CUTEEEEE!!! I was literally obsessed omg I couldn't put it down and genuinely squealed out loud. I do prefer more spice though!
Thank you NetGalley for providing me with the ARC of this book for an honest review!
This book has the vibe of a well-made Christmas rom-com that makes you laugh, smile, and have a good time overall.
If you're looking for a quick short romance read in time for the holidays, I would highly recommend this one as it has the perfect amount of typical rom-com vibes and moments such as a funny meet-cute and fake-dating without a necessary stereotypical third-act breakup but rather simply an enjoyable Christmas read.
5⭐️ 2🌶️
This was such an amazing meet-cute romance! I loved the mix-up in phone numbers and their conversations so much! The fake dating trope was well done and the tension was beautiful 😍
I loved the characters so much. I’ve read a lot of romances where I could predict what was to come. It was nice to read a romance where I didn't see what would happen. It made my reading experience so much better. Granted, there were a few things that I could predict, but the big reveal was not what I expected.
In my opinion, Chase and Candice's story is perfect! I swooned, laughed, and giggled throughout the entire book. And it was fun learning about a Florida Christmas. As someone who lives where snow always falls, it was interesting to read about a warm and sunny Christmas.
I want to thank NetGalley and Heather Garvin for the ebook in exchange for an honest review.
I was kicking and giggling like a little school girl when I was reading this. This was so cute!
This was a meet cute that initially went wrong but ended up right. Chase initially asked for someone else's number, but Candace thought it was for her. Chase took this opportunity to convince Candace to help him at his work holiday party to keep his boss from making advances towards him under the mistletoe, again. Will Chase be able to keep his boss at bay from the fake arrangement, but will Candace keep her feelings in check and not fall for someone who supposedly isn't interested in her.
I saw this recommended by an author I love, and I am SO glad I took a chance on this because this is everything I want from a romance. I stayed up late reading this because I was too busy giggling and kicking my feet to fall asleep.
What drew me in immediately is that the author really knows how to set a scene. Her descriptions are vivid and detailed, which made me feel transported into the story. The chemistry between these characters is SOOO good, and even though the book is single POV, it was very clear how Chase felt about Candace, even if Candace herself didn't see it.
Thanks for the chance of reading this ARC I want to start with that, I did like it, specially for this winter season, it definitly has the vibes, Candace and Chase were fun characters but they were also very obvious and I didn't enjoyed that part to be honest
Lots of good banter on this one, especially in the text messages after they first met. My only quibble would be at a certain point, she should have realized he was into her. I mean, he told her and showed her, and her thinking didn't make sense. Overall, I really liked it much more than I was expecting. Definitely will read more by author.
Thanks a lot for the ARC!
I´ve never heared of this Author before but was enthused by the decription - and I wasn´t disappointed.
There is a whole lot I really enjoyed about " When The Fake Snow Falls", thus including the idea itself, the fake dating trope and the main characters, as well as the side characters. There was a good range of diversity that didn´t feel forced. The book was easy to read in general.
The one main thing I did not enjoy was the miscommunication between the protagonists, I really despise that trope. I caught myself wanting to scream "Tell him/her all of what´s going on!" more than once.
I also think I would have liked to read from Chase´s perspective as well. We got a glimpse into his thinking through him being the more open part of the couple but still, I would have loved to also to properly read from his perspective and get his view on certain situations.
Nonetheless I had a great time reading this book by Heather Garvin and will we looking into her other releases.
I really loved this book but I didn’t not have time to finish it within the time frame. I love Heathers writing and banter with her characters!
Omg .... this was such a great read. This was a first for me with this author, but not my last. I throughly enjoyed this book
