Wow this book. I haven't cried this much over a book in years. The way I could literally feel the characters pain, it was intense and impressive. At first I wasn't sure I could get into it because of the FMC and her on again off again 'boyfriend' but it really set the stage for the character growth throughout. I can't wait for the next one!
Thank you NetGalley and publisher for this arc!!
What a good book! I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. I loved the main characters! They had great chemistry and worked so well together. I loved how the book just flowed. My first by this author but will not be my last!!!
4.5 ⭐️
Oh my goodness this one was sweetie and sad and heartwarming and lovely! It felt a little longer than it needed to be especially around the middle, but lord have mercy it was just cute as can be. Loved both main characters, HATED multiple side characters, felt deeply. Gorgeous follow up, shout out to NetGalley for letting me read it early!!
After Unsteady I had sky high expectations. That book owns a piece of my soul.
I'm happy to report Peyton doesn't disappoint. She is SO good at writing emotions and I once again FELT ALL THE THINGS reading this book. I loved Ro and Freddie so much, (And the subplot with Freddie's parents was an expected heart wrencher.) I don't know how she weaves emotions so beautifully but I felt all the things and spent half the book completely choked up.
Thank you Net Galley and Atria for this arc. <3 I loved getting to experience this story early.
Freddy and Ro are some of my favorite characters I’ve ever read!! I related to both of them so much and I loved seeing their stories be told! Their stories are so important to hear because not many people see this level of grief in stories they know will end happily.
Freddy uses his reputation to numb the feeling of loss and Ro becomes agreeable to not feel lonely. They’re so perfect for each other. They are easily able to see through the façades each other shows the world and support each other in the only ways they know how. I loved seeing their friendship and love grow through the book.
There were some times the timeline was a bit weird, so I recommend reading Unsteady first to make sure there is no confusion during the beginning of the book.
So thankful for the arc from Atria!
I loved Unsteady but I think Unloved is my new favorite! I can't wait for the next book in the series I'm hoping it's Bennett but I also want a Kane book.
I just wanna put Freddy in my pocket and keep him safe forever🥹 I usually don’t like books with similar main characters and I loved these two. They were exactly what the other needed and it felt so refreshing to read about a relationship with so much emotional maturity, “I think you’d be really easy to love” 😍😭. This was also a GOOD slow burn 🌶️🥵 I’m really vibing with this friend group and cannot wait for Torrens book!
If Unsteady got you deep in the feels, you’ll adore the tale of our two cinnamon rolls Ro and Freddy in Unloved. When studious Ro crosses paths with Freddy during freshman year at a party, she’s enchanted until Freddy abandons her without explanation. Fast forward to senior year, and Ro is in a situationship with her older boyfriend while also applying for a coveted internship. Meanwhile Freddy is acing things on the ice, but struggling academically. When Freddy is assigned Ro as his tutor, and Ro discovers the ways Freddy hasn’t been receiving accommodations for diagnosed ADHD, dyscalculia and dyslexia. Freddy and Ro begin forming an incredible friendship based on mutual support, communication and respect that could simmer into something more if they let it…
I devoured this angsty, heartbreakingly sweet book! It’s full of drama for our two characters to navigate, but you can absolutely feel their connection and are rooting for them from beginning. Thank you, S&S for the ARC and chance to review Unloved.
my god I'm so emotional after finishing this book... I love Ro and Matty so very much & this book healed me and made me feel sososo single at the same time
Unloved is a captivating hockey romance that explores the hidden challenges behind outwardly flawless facades. At its heart, the story centers on Matt, whose low self-esteem stems from learning difficulties and personal losses, and Ro, who grapples with her own sense of self-worth due to difficult personal circumstances. Together, they embark on a slow-burn journey toward self-acceptance and genuine love.
The story’s emotional depth is compelling, particularly in Matt’s character arc. His struggles are portrayed with sensitivity, and several scenes capture his vulnerability in a way that makes him an endearing and memorable character. Ro’s choices, while understandable, sometimes feel frustrating, adding a layer of realism to her journey as she learns to break free from past constraints.
The slow, heartfelt build-up between Matt and Ro brings real emotional weight to their romance. Despite occasional frustrations, Unloved succeeds in delivering a powerful message about self-worth and the transformative power of love, making it a rewarding read for fans of nuanced, character-driven romance.
I really enjoyed the first book and I was honestly surprised at how much I loved this one. I’m hoping it’s a series that continues because I need Kane’s story. I’m assuming Bennett’s is next and I’ll be so pickles for that too.
I LOVE LOVE LOVED THIS BOOK!
peyton corrinne, you've done it again!
this book was hilarious but also so so emotional?! it's so hard not to fall for the characters, I loved ro and freddy smmm and literally everything abt them!
ok maybe the leg thing was a bit weird (iykyk) but besides that I adored it, I missed sadie and rhys smm so it was great to see them again!!
thank you to netgalley and the publisher for an e-arc in exchange for an honest review!
this was one of my most anticipated romances of next year, considering how much i ate up unsteady when it was still on kindle unlimited - the freddy and ro crumbs in that book had me looking forward to their own story, and i definitely wasn't let down. opposites attract? no thanks! i simply think more books should have two tenderhearted lonely leads who have so much in common and just desperately want to be loved! the plot was a little meandering, especially near the end but i so genuinely enjoyed getting to spend time with these characters again and am already excited for book 3 based on some hints in here!
This didn’t hit as hard as Unsteady, and I don’t know if that is because I read it rather than listening to it, but a lot of the impactful moments fell a little flat for me.
Ro and Freddy also felt a bit different than how they were in Unsteady, but I still loved them nonetheless. I do really wish we got more character development scenes of Ro with Tyler and the professor, but I understand that wasn’t part of her journey.
My favorite part of the series are the family moments, whether that is between actual family or between friends that became family, it really does shine through the most and is what keeps me coming back to the series.
I am excited for where the series goes especially with Bennett and Kane.
Peyton Corinne’s Unloved beautifully continues Ro and Freddy’s story, diving deep into their emotional struggles and budding romance. Freddy’s journey as a star hockey player grappling with dyslexia and ADHD is both poignant and relatable, especially with the added pressure of his estranged father’s expectations.
Ro shines as a hopeless romantic yearning for real connection, and the chemistry between her and Freddy is electric. Their late-night study sessions evolve into moments of genuine intimacy, making their unspoken feelings even more impactful. The nostalgia of their first kiss adds a bittersweet layer to their relationship.
While the pacing can feel uneven at times, the emotional depth and heartfelt moments shine through, making it easy to root for their connection. Unloved is a compelling tale about love and acceptance. It’s a reminder that the right person can see and cherish all of you, flaws and all.

Thank you Atria and NetGalley for ARC ❤️
Oh how my heart broke and healed with this book. Matt and Ro were everything to me. Their friendship and growth was so beautifully written. These two characters seeing each other better than any one else saw them was such a heart tugging story. I'm so glad I was able to get this ARC because it was one of most anticipated reads for next year and I'm so glad I didn't have to wait to read it. Hoping we'll hear more from these group of friends.
This book had everything I want in a romance book. It’s had deeper meaning for the two characters than just flirting and falling in love. They understood a deeper part of each other which I always love in a good romance novel. Ro had my heart instantly with her obsession with trying to be perfect (because as a girl I totally relate) and Freddy melted my heart with how well his ADHD was shown in the book and his other problems. This is definitely a romance I will be recommending for all my girls.
Unloved by Peyton Corinne is the most heart wrenching hockey romance I’ve read yet. A girl who thinks she’s too much and a boy who think’s he’s not enough have unlikely encounters, neither of which either remember. Come to find out, she ends up having to tutor the boy who stole her heart🙈 This book is stuffed full of cute romantic and intimate gestures, as well as grief and self acceptance. I loved these characters storyline and I loved the pace that this book moved at. It’s my first book I’ve read yet by this author and it left me wanting more! Thank you Atria Books for allowing me the opportunity to review this arc! It’s so good I can’t wait to snag a physical copy to annotate when it comes out!!
SOOOOO.... THAT HAPPENED. jesus christ where to start. i adore this book. this book is like a hug from your lost beloved childhood stuffed animal that you found. this book is like andrew garfield talking about emma stone. it IS like being bathed in sunlight.
into the specifics, im about to get personal 🥸. matt frederic is so much more that his diagnoses, but i want to talk about that. with adhd, feeling unlovable is a battle that everyone has with themselves. preforming for people, trying to entertain everyone, because people with adhd realize at a young age that it's the easiest way to get people to like you. but it's exhausting. i can feel matt's exhaustion. this story line, much like rhys and sadie's mental health struggles, is handled with such compassion, care, and understanding. it feels like the author is simply allowing people who relate to freddy to be who they are. allowing us a place to be. alas! i'm going on and on.
i love freddy and ro together, this is such a slow burn. it's so hard not to fall in love with the two of them and their love story. i simply adore that they grow into each other seamlessly. nothing compared to my sadierhys but this couple is a close close second. so much love 💚
"I think you’d be really easy to love"
This book! Ahhh...I'm in love with Ro and Matt. I'm just not sure how to put my emotions into words for this one...they are both such compelx characters and there were so many things I could relate to with both of them! I just want to give them a big big hug and protect them from the cruel people in their lives. I love the friendship they have, I love the relationship they have. Ro and Matt see the best in each other almost from the very start. They are kind to each other, and eventually learn to be kind to themselves.
Thanks to Netgalley for this eArc.
