Oh God. Another fantastically heart breaking but warming book by Peyton Corrine.
Corrine does a great job of covering grief and love and how well they go together. I found my heart crumbling for Matty and Rosalie in one chapter and immediately being warm and fuzzy in the next.
I will carry these two characters and their incredibly precious love for each other everywhere I go now. Not many books leave this kind of impact but Corrine is on a 2 for 2 streak for me. She handled their love for one another with such great tender care that I couldn’t help but cry at happy bits as well as the sad.
I wish I could give Matt and Ro the biggest hugs ever. Even thinking about their story has me tearing up all over again. I really appreciated how Corrine does not make love out to be some crazy feat. She hits home on how easy *wink* it should be.
I found myself connecting with Ro and Matty in my own ways and it felt so amazing to be seen. I was overcome with emotion to know that these two found each other and loved each other so vibrantly and transparently.
I can’t wait for what Peyton has next in store for her readers. I will be first in line to pick it up and read it. Keep up the amazing work Peyton!
Thank you to Atria Books and NetGalley for letting me read this advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
3.5 stars
This one was much more emotional than Unsteady imo!
This follows Freddy, who is a hockey player who struggles with learning disabilities, and Ro who ends up tutoring him. Each character has their own internal battles. It’s touching to see each overcome these and lean on one another. Freddy wears a mask around his friends/teammates, and it was really nice to see a mmc break down and get emotional.
This book happens at the same time Unsteady does, so it was cool to align both.
This has plenty of angst and it’s a slow burn. Honestly liked this though because both characters got to find comfort and love each other with sex out of the equation first.
I also loved how this book touched on grief. The ending/last chapters were my fav.
So excited for Bennett’s book!
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC!
Peyton, you wrote the most beautiful book! It was wonderful. I loved how this story pulled every heartstring. I loved how relatable the characters were. Add this to your TBR list!
What an amazing read. Ro and Matty were such a dynamic duo who grew individually and together. Ro is such a great FMC who struggles to see her own worth after years with her on and off again boyfriend. Matty struggles with being his true self and instead embraces all the things others say about him. I really liked the dynamic between the two leads and how they saw the best in each other. While there were some issues in trying to understand the plot point- for example, exactly when and how long Matty's reputation went back- it was an overall great read.
Peyton Corinne has done it again! I am soo grateful that NetGallery approved me to read this early because I can’t imagine waiting until February for this. It was SO good!! I literally could not put my kindle down to the point where my family was genuinely becoming frustrated because I was completely glued to my screen and unable to stop reading.
I LOVED Ro and Freddy. While I absolutely adored Rhys and Sadie in Unsteady, I almost think I liked Unloved even more just because I was able to really connect with Ro and I saw myself in her. Ro and Freddy’s relationship was just so genuine and gentle and I adored them so much. I already know this is going to be a book I think about all of the time in the future. I can’t wait for this to be out and for more people to read it (and of course so I can buy the physical copy and have this beautiful book on my shelf)!!
What an amazing follow up to Unsteady! I loved that book but I think I love this one even more. Peyton Corinne is a great storyteller - the way she just captures emotions on every page is amazing. Unloved revolves around two broken MCs who have had toxic relationships that changed them. Matt, our MMC, with his past relationships and his dad, has always felt unlovable. That he is only good for one thing and he leaned into that reputation. Ro, our FMC, was in an emotionally abusive relationship with an ex (I hate Tyler with my every being! I cannot stand him). Together, Matt and Ro are perfect for each other. My favorite type of any love story is when you can't help but cheer and root for the couple. Matt and Ro deserve each other. I love how they truly tried to stay friends and got to know each other that way. I love how they are both extremely protective and stood up for each other when others were putting them down. My favorite is when Ro was defending Matt's learning disabilities. I was so dang proud of her as she normally appears shy and timid. I like getting glimpses of Sadie and Rhys and excited to see more of Bennett as well. The book is mainly about love, friendships and family but it also dealt with grief, bad and good parenting, and finding family where you least expect it. The book was angsty but it's full of swoony and sweet moments as well. I love the epilouge and how it tied the whole story perfectly. This is ♾️⭐️. Very highly recommend.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and Peyton Corinne for the advanced copy in exchange for this honest review. I have just placed my preorder for it. I cannot wait to have it on my shelves!
4.25⭐️
Idk what’s put into these books but I eat them up every time. I knew after reading Unsteady that I wanted to get my hands on Unloved and thankfully NetGalley came through.
I’m utterly obsessed with Ro and Freddy. Obviously love a good hockey romance, but just them as people as well. I feel like Peyton writes people who you can connect to and who struggle with real like stuff. I love them so much and can’t believe I was so lucky to get my hands on this arc!!! Thank you Atria and NetGalley for letting me read and review this book!!!
Unloved is a beautifully written hockey romance staring a star hockey player who falls for his tutor. The relationship between the main characters Freddy and Ro is just beautiful from the start. Both Ro and Freddy are very complex characters; with Ro dealing with an emotionally abusive boyfriend, homesickness and an intense loneliness and Freddy dealing with impossible expectations, a horrible dad and multiple learning disabilities this book is sure to pull on your heart strings. Part of this book parallels what happened and Corrine's first book Unsteady which I really enjoyed. You do see snippets of Rhys and Sadie which I did love to see, but this story was all Freddy and Ro. I enjoyed seeing how accurately dyslexia, ADHD, and dyscalculia were portrayed in this book for someone who has 2 out of the 3 of those learning disabilities. I also loved seeing how real Matt was with his insecurity of never finding someone who wants something long term with him and always wondering if that's what Ro really wants. Seeing him experience and express that vulnerability to Ro was really amazing. This book literally made me cry all the feels and I didn't think it could top unsteady for me (which was a favorite read of this year) but it did. This is what romance should be not just cutesy and lovey lovey, but tackling real issues that people have and portraying them so well that you almost feel like you are experiencing it. Can't wait for the next book in the series.
This was SUCH a great romance! I absolutely adored Matt and Ro. Their relationship was so tender and beautiful, and I just really loved it. Both of them are such complex and interesting characters, and the author explored both of them so well. The pacing in this was absolutely perfect, and I loved it so much! Peyton Corinne outdid herself with this one! I loved it even more than Unsteady (which was also 5 stars for me). I can't wait to read whatever she writes next :)
first off, i just want to say thank you to netgalley and atria books for the arc in exchange for an honest review! all thoughts are my own. i thought this was a very cute and sweet hockey romance. hockey romances are some of my favourites ever and i think they always scratch an itch. freddy and ro had such tender moments that warmed the heart; some of my favourite scenes of them are when they're just starting to get to know each other (and the pool scene!). however, this book felt like it dragged a little - the slow burn friends to lovers was cute but there was a LOT of OMD and not necessarily OWD, but the MMC is with other women after knowing the FMC and that rubbed me the wrong way. there was also a lot of miscommunication caused by them being friends first and i think it could've been resolved much faster. another reason why i love hockey romances are the found family, but in this book it felt like we weren't integrated into the family, more so that we were watching them from a distance and that also took away from my enjoyment. however, despite my grievances, this is still a quick cute hockey romance, with a sweet friends to lovers plot and if that's something you're interested in, i'd still recommend it!
4 1/2 stars- I really loved this one! I really liked Unsteady so I was super excited to get this arc for Unloved and it did not disappoint! I could not put this book down when I started reading it. I loved so much how Ro and Matt became good friends first and then entered into a relationship. I really enjoyed both main characters and was feeling for both of them as they were going through their own struggles. I am very excited for the next book in this series!
Another beautiful book by Peyton Corinne! I have read Unsteady 3 times already, and will probably read Unloved just as many times if not more.
Listen, was I prepared to shed tears (again) over one of Peyton's book? Yes, yes I was.
Was I prepared for all the feelings this book would stir in me? Absolutely, tornado level feelings.
What I was ABSOLUTELY not prepared for is to meet Freddy and Ro, and everything that they are. This gentle, slow burn, friends to lovers story has absolutely warmed my heart and made it difficult to keep emotions in check. But that is not surprising, since both Freddy and Ro are full of feelings and emotions. Tender, kind souls, that have experienced heartbreak, grief, feelings of unworthiness and being "not enough", and feeling unloved. While their stories and who they are as people is drastically different, at the core of it what they both want is to be understood, seen, and most importantly, loved unconditionally.
To be loved is to be seen & I think you'd be really easy to love. Two mantras that have been repeated over and over in the book, by both Freddy and Ro, with prayer-like reverence. It is both a reminder, and a lesson to them, that the right person will see you, and will love you, without expectations, demands, or conditions. It is so incredibly heart-warming to see them both learning how to be kinder to themselves, and how to begin to heal, and be better together. I also adored that both Freddy and Ro showed emotions, because sometimes big feelings are really overwhelming.
I am sooo glad that Peyton did not give us a third-act breakup because I don't think my poor heart could have handled it.
💚 slow burn, friends to lovers
💚 playboy hockey player with a heart of gold
💚 tutor fmc that loves girly things and ripped bodice romance novels
💚 adhd / dyscalculia / dyslexia rep
💚 dual pov
💚 main characters with big feelings
💚 tender, kind, and patient love
Sooo happy I got this arc!!! I started and couldn’t stop reading - riding the high of a good romance binge 🙂↕️ very much a slow burn and angsty. I teared up a few times 🥺 ~to be loved is to be seen~ that line is sticking with me 😂
I did find myself getting confused during some parts because I couldn’t remember the timeline of the first book or remember what was happening between Sadie and Rhys and with Bennett? But overall really enjoyed this and I am invested in the friend group now ❤️
And like my review for unsteady, I can’t wait for Toren’s book cuz I need to know more about him !!!
I think this just might be a 5/5!!
I'm pretty sure I gave the first book in this series (of interconnected standalones) 4.5/5, so I had such high hopes for this one. And I am so glad it lived up to those high hopes.
I did not want to put this book down!
The moral of this book: dump your idiot turd of a boyfriend/situationship. Never hesitate to dump your idiot turd of a boyfriend/situationship. Tyler was a turd and I hate him. But Freddy is great. Love him. An icon.
I had so much fun with this book, I didn't want to put it down. I loved Ro and liked how different she felt from a lot of female main characters in books I've read lately. She really did feel like a real person.
And I really appreciate how Peyton Corrine makes her characters so real. In the previous book, there was anxiety and PTSD representation and this book continues with that. These characters aren't perfect, they have dyslexia and terrible relationships and trauma, and that makes them relatable and understandable.
I highly recommend this book (and this series) and I cannot wait for the next one!
Thanks to NetGalley for the e-ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review! My Goodreads review is out now and my TikTok (Zoe_Lipman) review will be out a the end of the month with my monthly reading wrap-up.
This book is a study in patience and pure love. A slooow burn that had me both crying and grinning from ear to ear in equal measure.
Unloved felt quite different from Unsteady but they truly compliment each other (not unlike the friendships reflected between the primary characters in each book 😊).
What I love most about Peyton Corrine’s writing is that she takes these challenging and nuanced topics like self worth and grief and treats them with such care that, as a reader, it’s hard not to fall head first and feel like you’re experiencing everything along side the characters. Everything is so well fleshed out and paced perfectly that I was eager for each step forward but never felt rushed. Freddy and Ro are so gentle with each other in the most heart breaking and yet charming way. I love them and I love this book. The passion is much more subtle and while I sometimes found myself wanting to absolutely rage on behalf of both Ro and Freddy, the book at its core is really quite soft and tender and sad. The accompanying playlist does a really nice job of reinforcing those feelings. I was often reminded of Perks of Being a Wallflower and the popular quote “we accept the love we think we deserve” (both in regards to the main characters and side characters).
The Undone series is likely to ruin me by the end of it, and I can't wait to keep reading!
At this point Peyton Corinne is an autobuy! She has yet to fail when it comes to writing a book I love. She knows how to write the best FMC and the hottest MMC. Can’t wait to see what else she has to offer with her writing.
What a soft, sweet, TENDER romance. Friends to lovers is my favorite and this book did not disappoint.
I deeply appreciated the dialogue on mental health and learning differences (ADHD; dyslexia; dyscalculia) including the ways we (+ the education system) often fail those who can thrive with support and appropriate accommodations. In both books in this series (Unsteady & Unloved), the author confronts the ways we speak about people who are sexually active and affirms there should not be shame or guilt in having a healthy, active sex life!
I was just as entranced by the side characters and am EAGERLY awaiting future books in this series (Toren!! Benett!!!!). I can't think of a character that didn't pull at my heart strings (especially Matty's mom & Archer my god) or make me so incredibly angry (Tyler & Professor Tinely).
10/10 recommend and already anticipate being in a reading slump after how darn delightful this book was to read!
I was lucky enough to meet Peyton Corinne at my local Barnes & Noble “Spicy Saturday” event. I had never read anything by her but I was excited to give her books a try. I’m a sucker for a good hockey romance. I devoured the first book “Unsteady” in less then 48hours. When I found out the next book in the series “Unloved” was Freddy & Ro’s story I knew I had to have it. And thankfully the ARC gods at NetGalley & Atria publishing granted them. “Unloved” did not disappoint, I loved this book from start to finish and I can’t wait to continue with this series.
Small disclaimer I saw a couple people saying they didn’t read “Unsteady” before reading “Unloved”. I honestly think that’s a mistake and I highly recommend reading “Unsteady” first because both books events are happening at the same time. And several key moments in both stories overlap. So if you didn’t read book one I think there may be some confusion. Also for those BookTok people looking for spicy from start to finish this is also not for you. “Unloved” is a tender slow burn romance. For these characters relationship it’s truly about the journey more than the destination.
Anyway back to my review. I loved the characters in this book. Especially our leads Freddy & Ro. My heart absolutely hurts for them and what they’ve both endured. There were several moments I wanted to scream at Ro for not having more backbone. However, even with that said I know women who are in Ro’s exact situation it’s not that easy to do exactly that. Instead watching two tender hearted protective people come together made it all worth it.
Overall, I highly recommend “Unsteady” & “Unloved”. I can’t wait to own a physical copy of this for my shelf when it releases next February. Also big Thank you again to NetGalley & Atria for providing an arc in exchange for my honest review.

*› I ended up liking this quite a bit better than unsteady, but it still wasn't my favorite?? I loved all the moments of them together and it was so cute to read about!!
I was kinda disappointed because they didn't get together until maybe 70% in??..and she was with her
'ex' for a good amount of the book lol.

i did like this but some moments I was getting bored, and I wish we got more moments of her tutoring him

I didn’t know it was possible but I think this one might have knocked unsteady down from my favorite of the series. one thing I love about peyton’s books is that the fmc and mmc are so similar, they always mirror each other and I think it helps guide them through the hurdles they encounter. there’s never any miscommunication, they work like a well oiled machine. slow burn at its finest!! 70% in before a first date and I’m on the edge of my seat!! matty and ro practically took care of each other throughout the book, they had each others backs, and they were so gentle with each other. I think this book perfectly encapsulates what a soulmate is like. thank you NetGalley for the arc, I cannot wait for the release day!
