this was so enjoyable, i read the first book quite a while ago so i needed a little refresher before i started but to be frank ro and freddy spoke for themselves, their story of grief and love felt so raw and honest to some of my own experiences and i can’t wait for audiences to enjoy this soon
thank you netgalley for an arc of this in exchange for my honest review!
I AM BACK IN MY HOCKEY ROMANCE ERA. This was so fun! I really did not know what to expect when going into this book, but I did not expect to me laughing HYSTERICALLY and blushing for BOTH main characters. I'll read anything Peyton puts out!
I stayed up late two nights in a row reading this one. I love tender relationships and pining in books, and Peyton's writing has really nailed the particular softness that I love.
I really like that. This one starts before the timeline of unsteady and takes place at the same time. If I had known that for sure before I went in, I would have been skeptical at how it would be done but I think that this makes the most sense that way and Peyton Corinne manages to walk the tight rope of revisiting some scenes from a new perspective without it *feeling* at all repetitive. We get to see what Freddy and Ro were doing and what Sadie and Rhys looked like from the outside.
Freddy and Ro are wonderful characters for the traumatized, people placing, desperate to be loved lonely person inside of all of us.
Unsteady was a highly anticipated and loved book by me and I really am thankful to have received this eArc from Netgalley and Atria!
Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Unloved was a fantastic novel! It follows Ro, a tutor with a complication relationship with her boss/potential ex boyfriend, as she finds a confidant in Freddy, a hockey player & playbot. They have more in common than most believe. Watching their relationship build was the sweetest, and I’m so glad there was no 3rd act breakup. Highly recommend!
Ro just wants to live her college life to the fullest, but her emotionally abusive fuckboi of a boyfriend has chipped away at her confidence. When she starts tutoring past crush, Matt "Freddy" Fredderic, a genuine friendship develops that shows them both a different possibility.
College hockey star Freddy is struggling with his classes due to ADHD, dyslexia, and dyscalculia. And a lot of other challenges that are revealed slowly through the book. He needs Ro to help him, and she does in more ways than one.
I loved the build up of their relationship. It was very realistic. It sucks that we get hung up on people that don't deserve us, but especially with first relationships, but it happens. It was very sweet seeing Freddy struggle with seeing Ro in that situation but he supports her and saves her just because he thinks she's great. I can't count the amount of times when he thinks she's amazing or tells her she's smart and has great style and that she's talented. So many examples of him just praising her to her face made me love him.
Ro is amazing. She researches ways to tutor Freddy with his learning differences. She actively advocates for him. She's upset with how he is treated. She tries to stay professional but Freddy is so sweet and vulnerable.
This entire book is vulnerable. It is a wonderful example of what a healthy relationship looks like that includes all the complicated aspects of living life.
I cried multiple times 😭.
Wooooow I loved this book so much! This was my first Peyton Corinne book and I can promise you it won’t be my last! Immediately running to buy Unsteady then counting down the days until we get the next book!
Ro & Freddy deserve the world! These two sweet souls were so broken. They’d been let down and hurt by so many people and all they wanted was to be somebody’s first choice, to be loved. The way they went above and beyond for each other was so heartwarming to see. I loved their relationship in all its forms and their gradual descent into falling in love was absolute perfection.
There are so many side characters I’m intrigued by and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that they all get books but the one little side plot that really got me was Elsie & Archer. They gave me Alyssa & Connor vibes from Archer’s Voice in the absolute best and heartbreaking way! The last few chapters and the epilogue had me sobbing. This was just such a beautiful book.
Thank you so much to NetGalley & Atria for the ARC 🤍
This is now my favorite book in the Undone Series!
His shortie shorts and a thigh tattoo?! Butterflies in her hair and custom jacket in honor of him?! I love Matt so much, he is such a soft broken boy. Ro is a sensitive hopeless romantic. I can relate to her in many ways.
I loved the ADHD representation, my heart hurt for Matty and younger Kim (myself) because school was always hard for me.
Their intimacy of understanding each other on a deeper level made their love feel so wholesome. The way they support each other in the book, in such different ways, is so beautiful. Other things you can look forward to:

🦋Tutor x Athlete

I absolutely loved this book! If you think this series will be your typical new adult hockey romance, think again. The characters are so rich and the story is so beautifully emotional. This is very much a story of mutual healing and there isn’t much better than that in a book
I related to Ro so deeply. Her insecurities and struggle to find her confidence. And my heart absolutely ached for Freddy. I love both of these characters separately and am absolutely obsessed with them together
It was also so nice getting glimpses of Sadie and Rhys as well. I’ll be honest, I’m not usually a fan of book series where the sequels take place concurrently with previous books in the series, but when you’re dealing with university it makes sense. I also surprisingly didn’t mind it in this book
Do yourself a favour and read this series! I think this book would work as a standalone but I think you will appreciate it more if you read Unsteady first
I am so ready for Bennett’s book!
A big thank you to Netgalley and Atria for allowing me to read this book early
Wow, just wow. I already had high expectations for this book because I absolutely loved Unsteady and god, Unloved blew me away. It was heartbreakingly heartwarming filled with incredible music, found family, handling grief, and two souls just wanting to find love.
“I think you’d be really easy to love” and that, Matthew Fredderic is. He’s a golden retriever who’s protective of the ones he loves, he’s charming and cocky with a smile that can shine as bright as the sun, isn’t afraid to be sensitive (and that’s hot), and is his own biggest critic.
Rosalie Shariff is 5’9 with curls (and yes - this is important as a 5’11 girly with curls myself). She’s incredibly intelligent, a romance book lover wanting to experience the type of love she reads about, and loves so fiercely.
From tutor/student to friends to lovers, Matt and Ro fought so dearly for one another in every aspect. Matt fought the demon (aka Tyler) both physically and mentally that haunted Ro. Ro fought the academics who tore Matt down for his learning disabilities. They fought for each other so hard and it allowed them to grow together, and on their own. Their love was so gentle and built on genuine friendship and compassion - it was everything.
The flashbacks, Elsie and Archer, Sadie with Rhys, Sadie’s little brothers, BENNETT AND TOREN!!!!! I loved it all. I’ve been calling Bennett and Toren my numbers since the start, and I really enjoyed seeing a side to them that we haven’t seen yet. There’s so much we have yet to learn and I cannot WAITTTTT!
Thank you so much to Atria Books and NetGalley for providing me with this eARC. I really missed this universe and the extremely hot dads (Max and Adam - I’m looking at you.)
Rating: 4.75
Unsteady by Peyton Corinne was a surprise favourite for me this year. Maybe it was because I went in not knowing or expecting anything but I was shocked by how much I connected with the characters. While Unloved didn’t necessarily top it, it came pretty close.
Peyton Corinne has a knack for writing characters you’ll get attached to. I cant wait to for the rest of her books just so I can read more about these characters. And the best part is, they all have some aspect to them that you can relate to.
Ro and Freddy are definitely characters that I can see people loving. Freddy and his charm and how he helps Ro find herself after a traumatic relationship. Or Ro and her very loveable nature and how she helps Freddy love himself. The two of them definitely go through a lot in this book and honestly my favourite part has to be how much she supported Freddy with his dyscalculia and dyslexia. The representation in this book was done so well.
I cant wait to read the next one.
Thank you to Atria and Netgalley for the early copy!
4.5 ★
i am such a sucker for a good slow-burn, and wow freddy & ro were certainly slow-burning. ❤️🔥
the depth that BOTH of these characters have is amazing. it truly felt like i knew them both on a very real & personal level, even though they’re indeed fictional. i LOVE that in literature.
i loved that they really saw and understood each other; they were each others anchor without even really knowing it, and seeing that love unfold was so beautiful. it was so heartwarming that they were able to love the other how they deserved to be loved.
if you were a fan of unsteady, i definitely recommend you read unloved when it releases in february 2025!! peyton continues to pull at your heartstrings and gets you feeling nearly every emotion there is with this series.
p.s - i cannot wait for toren & bennett’s books… i’m gonna need them as soon as possible xoxo
*a heartfelt thank you to the publisher + Netgalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review*
I didn’t think it would be possible for me to love these two characters more than Rhys & Sadie…… but here we are.
Oh my GOD. Freddy & Ro……….. Matty & Rosalie. The love I have for the two of you knows no bounds.
Something I appreciate so so so much about Peyton’s writing is the emotional depth & turmoil these characters have. It’s painful & refreshing all at the same time to connect so deeply with them. There were several points that I had to set the book down to just stare at the ceiling.
I’m not a typical crier when it comes to romance books, but I wept the first time I read Unsteady & Unloved was no different. I just felt too much!!!! Some of the one liners would just cause tears to start falling from my eyes. I’m still crying just writing this review, listening to their playlist, & thinking about them.
I appreciated the different pacing and themes of this book while it stays within the same timeline of book 1. It’s not repetitive, and getting to see the other POVs was wonderful - especially if you’re fresh off of a reread from Unsteady.
(Me begging for book 3 when this book is not even officially released yet) I don’t know if I will be able to handle Bennett’s book. I know he is who I will be relating to the most & I’m already so down bad for these characters. Pls pls pls pls give it to me, I’m so so so excited I might die.
I don’t want to give too much away plot wise, so I’m not going to get into the nitty gritty of this book or start babbling about all the reasons Matty & Ro are perfect and amazing and wonderful. Unloved is out February 4!!!!!!! 💚 I’m so excited to get my hard copy & do rereads & talk with my book friends about it. So thankful I was able to get my hands on this ARC. Thanks to NetGalley & Atria Books !!!
Firstly, I love a Taylor Swift reference so this was already a win in my book.
I read the first book in this series a while ago so came into this one knowing it wasn’t just going to be a silly sport romance but was going to be deeper than that and that’s exactly what this was.
Tyler was the actually worst, I was a little annoyed by how long he stuck around but think he was important to the story and Ro and Matt’s growth. I loved that once they were in it they were in it and there was no unnecessary drama or misunderstandings getting their way.
Looking forward to the next book in the series, I need to know more about Bennett and his story.
I still can’t believe I got this as an ARC! I loved Unsteady, but Unloved was next-level perfect. If you enjoyed the first book, you’ll fall even harder for this one. I couldn’t stop flipping pages, completely hooked on Matty and Ro’s journey. They’re my babies, and I’m obsessed!
Peyton Corinne’s Unloved is an emotional sports romance that hits all the right notes. Freddy, a hockey star struggling with learning disabilities and self-worth, and Ro, a romantic trapped in a toxic cycle, form a connection that’s both tender and transformative.
The slow-burn romance is so worth it. Freddy and Ro don’t just fall for each other; they help each other heal, and watching their growth is everything. If you love heartfelt stories about love, vulnerability, and finding yourself, you need to read this!
I absolutely adore Ro and Matty! Pick this book up on February 4th 2025!!🎀🏒
I received the arc for this book and I was soooo happy! I absolutely loved the first book in this series!
I loved is about Ro, who has her first kiss with a popular ice hockey player at a party. They have a fun night with talking and beer pong, but then he just leaves her waiting for him the rest of the night. We then jump a few years and Ro is now in another relationship ( buu ) and working as a tutor at her college. She gets assigned to tutor this ice hockey player and then it goes from there…
Peyton Corinne really knows how to hook the reader and get you to feel like a part of the story. You get to feel all the feelings, sadness, anger, frustration, happiness, love, and all the rest. I recommend EVERYONE to read this series!!!
I rated it 5 stars.
Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC and here are my honest thoughts, I had a hard time trying to finish it, the plot didn't grab me and there were a lot of cringy moments that made me doubt to continue it, the behaviors of the protagonist were not to my liking, it was not my style at all but it might be for you.
I read it all in one afternoon and I think that’s all I need to say. Corinne never fails to deliver, and this book is literally no different. She knows how to write a couple people.
Stop, that was so cute! I really liked Unsteady but Unloved was even better. I loved how the author talk about mental health, dyslexia, dyscalculia, and ADHD. It really stood out to me, it’s not often that we see characters dealing with these issues so authentically, and I loved how Freddy’s character was portrayed, his journey felt real and his emotional growth was so impactful.
Ro’s character was another highlight, she’s one of the sweetest character I read in a while. I really enjoyed her relationship with Freddy and how they grew throughout the book. It’s always satisfying to see character evolution like this, and Unloved definitely delivered on that front. Plus, we got a little glimpse of Sadie and Rhys from the previous book, which was really great.
I won’t lie the pace felt slow at first. But honestly, the ending made it all worth it! I love seeing the evolution of the couple’s relationship, and the conclusion didn’t disappoint at all, it was emotional, rewarding and so cute.
I can’t wait for the next one!
💖 Hockey Romance
💖 Neurodivergent Representation (ADHD, dyslexia and dyscalculia)
Trigger Warnings: Grieving main character, emotional abusive ex, teacher/student relationship
The Matthew Fredderic Effect
Matthew (also known as Freddy) is struggling with keeping his grades up and off academic probation. He needs to pass his classes and graduate so he can then move on to play in the NHL. Ro (Rosalie) is the brainy tutor that’s been chosen to help.
This book was a solid 3.5/4 stars with a moderate spice level. Was I obsessed with it? No, but it’s a solid read. I found Matt to be heartwarming and Ro to be interesting as main characters. I wish Matt would have sought counseling instead of only depending on Ro and I wish Ro would have done the same. I felt like their issues were pretty heavy and it just made me sad for them more than it made me fall in love with their love story.
Thank you NetGalley for providing me with an ARC copy in exchange for my honest review.
