Peyton Corinne knocked it OUT OF THE PARK with her sequel Unloved! This book pulled so many emotions out of me, as evident by me crying and laughing multiple times while reading. 😭🥹
The tenderness and care that went into the story and characters is obvious from page one, and I was hooked in to one of the sweetest love stories I’ve read in a while. The thing I love especially about Peyton’s writing is the mental health representation and complexity of the issues. In Unloved, we see topics like grief and loss of a parent, narcissistic relationships, abuse of power. This could feel overwhelming, but she handles it with such delicacy and grace that it interweaves itself into the storyline seamlessly.
I lovvvved Unsteady so much and it had become my number one hockey romance recommendation, and I’m so excited I have a follow-up now! 💚💚💚
I cannot wait to see more of what Peyton decides to do in the future. If she doesn’t have any more readers, it’s because I’m dead.

I read Unsteady and was super excited to read Unloved for Ro + Freddy. I was super intrigued by Freddy and felt like there was more to the story than his playboy persona. We saw parts of it in Unsteady but really dove into it in Unloved.

My heart hurt for Ro + Freddy for what they have been through but loved that they were able to connect to each other and work through it. They are both so tenderhearted and feel so much and really bring out the best in each other. I loved that they were working through their hurt and heartache together.

I loved loved loved how protective they were of each other and defended each other. This book will make you super frustrated at everyone who treated them so poorly. There are moments where you'll want to scream at the people who are so mean to them because they are both so soft + sweet.

I would say this isn't a super spicy book but shows love through really tender and soft moments.

Freddy and Ro are two of my new favorite romance characters. They both feel like people you know and could be friends with irl, and they are honestly so easy to love 🥲 (iykyk but also truth) I haven’t read a romance quite like this one in awhile. One where the characters are both so different yet so similar in the ways that matter. One where the romance is so deeply rooted in friendship and understanding of one another. there’s no third act break up!!!! there’s just a beautiful steady friendship that blossoms into more, where you get to watch two people with the biggest hearts navigate past hurt/trauma and learn how to be loved 🥹

As an engineer who loves romance books, frilly bows & all the girly things, my heart FELT for Ro 😭 There are so many qualities in her that felt relatable and made me cheer so hard for her & want to protect her from the world (plz don’t even get me started on how I felt about Tyler because I was ready to throw hands 🫠)

AND FREDDY (MATT🥲) Y’ALL. He is the very definition of “if he wanted to, he would.” There were so many little moments through out the book where he showed up for Ro/proved how well he knew her & it went both ways 😭 Ro continually saw Freddy for who he actually was & spoke so much truth and love to him. (Which I also want to protect him from the world & loved the ending for him 😭) They both treated each other with such care!! And I loved it. I feel like this is one of those books I will be reading and re-reading. (I will probably be updating my review with new thoughts as they come 😭❤️)

“I think you’d be really easy to love”.

Did I read this book in one day and not put it down? YOU BET. What can I say about Unloved? It’s cotton candy skies, rainbow unicorns, and Care Bears. When Matt and Ro are together, the Undone Book Universe just flows better.

Sometimes, book titles have a way of encapsulating the journeys characters go through in the course of a book. Unloved can quite literally be about feeling ‘unloved’, but in this? It’s about self-love, accepting love from those around you (the most beautiful subplot I’ve read in a while, everyone be prepared to meet Archer), learning that love can help heal, finally, how love can be twisted against someone (storylines that will enrage you at certain characters, whew, I can write an essay on that). Plus Ro being a lead romance character of colour? LOVE.

Unloved is about Freddy (also known as Matt) and Ro from book one in the series. Book One’s storyline does run parallel to this, but it’s not imperative to know about it to enjoy this book. It’s singular in its own way. Peyton really has a way of bringing energy to her characters but also writing such a strong character backstory. It’s good, it makes readers think, and it also imparts empathy. I know it’s something that will carry on in the rest of her books and I love it. Their chemistry is good, the prologue scene was so CUTE, and butterflies are all around. In a weird way, Ro's character mimics a butterfly, she slowly opens up and then evolves into a beautiful character.

Now, onto some serious things. The worst characters in romance history go to Tyler and Professor Tinely. Both of them are characters that break the self-esteem of our leads (Ro and Freddy help boost each other up, and it’s adorable). Tyler and Tinley are manipulative, emotionally abusive, and lean on positions of power to embolden their actions. Despicable, and the worst people imaginable. Like damn, Peyton really wrote these horrible people that are like dirt (girl we still love you!). Sit through reading their scenes, because while they suck you’ll eventually see their comeuppance.

Finally, Peyton sprinkles some wonderful hints for possible future books as we learn more about characters in the Hockey House universe. I, for one, am intrigued by Toren (I know that book is going to be INSANE). The group dynamics are damn good. I can’t wait for Book Three. Thank you SO MUCH Atria Books. This is a 5-star read, and I’m sad I have to wait so long for the next one.

Boy howdy does Peyton write yearning. This continuous, simmering undercurrent of desperate need to be needed is such a constant that you grow as used to it as Freddy and Ro. They both give everything they think they have - Freddy his body, Ro her mind - to try and keep themselves attached to the people around them. And it isn’t until you’re in the thick of their friendship that you realize that hum of need is muted because they’re no longer searching for it in each other.

Watching cool, calm, collected Freddy stutter and blush (and flash his thigh tattoo in his hoochie daddy shorts) at any focused attention he gets from Ro was PRICELESS. And seeing Ro gain confidence from how entirely nonjudgmental and warm Freddy was toward her even at her worst moments was an absolute delight. Add the contrast between their dynamics with their families that gives a visible and sharp comparison - that you can sometimes seem to have all the support you could need and still be faltering just as badly as someone without it - and they’re so perfectly unbalanced that they balance each other perfectly.

But most importantly, they show each other that the people that truly love you will never have to be begged to do so - they’ll just love you because they do, and because you deserve it.

I read Unsteady on a whim when it came out and quickly fell in love with every part of it so when Unloved was announced “excited” wouldn’t even begin to describe my feelings towards it. I’ll start by saying I absolutely loved it. How relatable Ro and Matt were, their complicated relationships with their parents, the loneliness they both felt so deeply, I absorbed it all. They had this quiet steady love to them where they felt so much for each other and showed it through little things and gentle encouragement. I love how the loneliness was written and how it was different for both of them yet they felt it just the same. My heart broke and healed through the pages. They healed with each other and found someone to lean on it was just so wholesome. At one point I felt like each of them (Ro and Matty) were talking/thinking of other characters too much (not like specific incidents but just in general) and I just wanted more of them but then I realized that THAT is who they are, they think of and help others without any expectations and it really shows. I’m so happy they have each other to think of and lean on now. They also just had so much respect for each other as people not just a sexual attraction. It was who they were as people that led them to have such an amazing connection. Also I ate up the crumbs of Bennett and Paloma like I literally daydream about them I can’t wait for their book.

This book is an emotional whirlwind. Matt (Freddy) and Ro go through a journey of grief and love. It is a story about meeting people where they are at and showing up for each other. Ro is a relatable FMC for anyone who has struggled in a relationship where they were unappreciated and spoken down to

Matt is a star hockey player who struggles with his academics. In comes Ro, his tutor, who is stuck in a toxic on and off again situationship. Together they work through his academic problems and both of their emotional journeys. There are hard topics addressed thoughtfully and I really enjoyed their love story. 4⭐️

i got the pleasure of reading this book early with netgalley, and in no way shape or form did this disappoint!!! i devoured it in one day i was so excited. it takes place during the same time as unsteady, except now we get to follow ro and freddy🥹. and the amount of audible "awww baby" moments that i had during this book concerned me and everyone around me. the way they both slowly open up to each other and let down their walls was incredible and written beautifully. it was such a joy getting to follow more characters from the undone series, and i cant wait for bennet and toren's stories ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

These two were very cute and absolutely worth the wait! My only issue is that the ending felt a bit rushed.

When I saw the cover of the book, I instantly made a request for this book. You know it's gonna be a good book when it's a cartoony cover (that's my opinion at least). I only read the begining but I'm already hooked up! I've never read anything from Corinne before Unloved and I like this style of writting. If you're into simple and cute romance this book is definitly for you!

This one blew me away. I knew that I loved Unsteady more than life and didn’t think this one would top it but I was absolutely freaking wrong. This was truly a freaking love story to the max. I fell in love with Freddie and Ro and I just wish this was like 100 pages longer 😅

Absolutely adored this! Unsteady was a favorite of mine last year and this was just as good. Freddy and Ro….. so heartfelt and sweet. I liked how it took place at the same time as the first book so we got to see some of the events from a different perspective. Looking so forward to what I can hope would be Bennett and Paloma’s book next?

I loved Unsteady and truly didn’t think anything could even come close to it, but then Ro and Freddy came along and said. “Hold my beer!”.

This story was everything I needed. It was achy in all the right ways and a rare slow burn done right! The pining was out of this world but their friendship— was stunning. The love between them was jumping off the pages and it was so clear how meant to be they really were.

But even beyond the romance, I was so invested in the story and relationship between Matt and Archer. I full on sobbed when it came to those two. I could read a book just about them. - oh and that epilogue was PERFECT!

Basically this book will hit you in the gut and rearrange your insides in the best way. I cannot way for Bennet and Toren’s stories either!!

There is so much that I want to say about this book, so buckle up because this will be a long and gushing review. I absolutely fell in love with the characters Peyton creates in her first book, Unsteady, so I jumped at the chance to ARC read the follow up novel, Unloved. This was my most anticipated book of the year, and Peyton did not disappoint. This book had me absolutely enthralled from the start. Something I am always looking for in a book is for me to feel a strong emotion, whether that is love, hate, happiness, or something else, I want to be consumed. This book had my heart in a vice grip the entire time. I felt so many strong emotions, oscillating between rage at some characters, joy at their happiness, and adoration at watching these two soft and tender souls find each other. It was angsty, it was steamy, it was so gentle. This book truly held everything I wanted and these characters will sit with me for a while.

The book follows Matt “Freddy” Fredderic and Rosalie “Ro” Shariff, the best friends of the protagonists of Unsteady. Freddy is a hockey star, a playboy with a reputation, but also a struggling student with many learning differences. Ro is a brilliant, shy romantic who has been crushing on Freddy since they met freshman year at a party. Now in their senior year, Freddy is well known as a ladies man on campus and Ro is dating her on-again-off-again jerk of a boyfriend, Tyler, and they get paired up as tutor and student to help Freddy pass his biology and math classes so he can maintain his academic standing to stay on the hockey team and graduate in the spring. While these two both project the image of happiness, they are both lonely and in desperate need of affection. The more time they spend together, the more their friendship blooms and they begin to find comfort in the other. They also have a growing amount of heat and tension that is building between them that they are trying desperately to ignore. And all the while they are dealing with these budding feelings, outside factors are creating challenges and turmoil that they must navigate.

I cannot even begin to put into words how protective I am of Freddy and Ro. They are the most tender and gentle souls who deserve all the best things. I wept multiple times in this book with how vulnerable they both are and the cruelty they've experienced at the hands of others. Individually, they are some of my favorite characters ever. Ro is such a powerhouse. She is the lone woman in her cohort for the biology tutors and TAs, dealing with so much misogyny and overall gross behavior from these men, one of whom is her sort-of boyfriend Tyler. She is so smart and works so hard, and meanwhile is far away from her home and family. She has a best friend in Sadie, but Sadie is also busy and dealing with so much in her own life (see Unsteady!). Loneliness and a desire to true affection dominate her feelings. She also is dating a guy who puts her through an emotional ringer. He is manipulative and cruel breaking up with her frequently only to turn around and act like they are back to normal, and she is constantly reminding herself of the good times with him. Tyler made me RAGE so much of the book with how he treated Ro. Ro deserves so much better than him, but she is scared of being truly alone. Then we have Freddy. Sweet, precious Freddy who I want to protect at all costs. He is the ultimate playboy on the outside, all charm and swagger, but on the inside is desperate to be loved. He is so protective of Ro, wanting to shield her from his reputation and past. He lost his mother to cancer his freshman year and is still dealing with the grief of her death and now has HORRIBLE people in his corner, from a dead-beat dad who treats him like crap to a professor with whom he shares a problematic past. The flashbacks that show us his interactions with these people are absolutely heartbreaking and will make you cry and scream at the void.

Then, we put these two together, with their broken pasts and tender hearts, and we get one of the greatest love stories ever written. This is the way friends to lovers should always be done. They start out so lonely and lost, both tentative to let others in. Throughout the story, we see so much vulnerability and comfort between the two of them, opening up to each other and leaning on each other in ways they’ve not been able to do with anyone else. Their feelings are so raw and tender and I can’t even put into words how it makes my heart feel. I just want to hold them both and hide them from all the pain of the world. They truly develop a strong friendship and foundation which leads to such an amazing relationship. This book is such a slow burn, but it is so worth it with the tension and pining and FEELS we get.

They are also incredibly protective of one another and each other’s biggest advocate. I love how well represented Freddy’s learning differences are, with his ADHD, dyscalculia, and dyslexia. Freddy is so used to people not helping him and having to either hide his difficulties or have them brushed off, but Ro truly cares and does everything she can to help him succeed. It is so beautiful to see the support they give one another throughout the book in so many different ways, and it just adds even more to how lovely their bond is.

I also LOVE how Peyton is writing this series to overlap with the others. We are able to see many of the same events that happened in Unsteady from a different perspective. Seeing Rhys from his friends’ POV and watching his journey is so moving. I love how Peyton still gives so much care to the side characters and gives their stories their full due, even when it isn’t the main story being told in this book. We also get a lot of breadcrumbs for the next book in the series which I am SO excited for, along with some great Toren Kane knight in not-so-white-armor moments. One thing Peyton does so well is make each side character feel like a main character in their own right, and I can’t wait to get to see what is up next for these friends!

And let me just add, that while I cried multiple times throughout the book, the epilogue had me SOBBING. It was the perfect conclusion to their story, but I can’t wait to get snippets of them again in the next books!

This is so much more than a college hockey romance. It has so much heart and so much tenderness. I cannot say enough how this book somehow both made me raging for how these two were treated while simultaneously sobbing at the soft gentleness of their love. This is a book that is going to sit with me for a long time. I enjoyed every minute of it and can't wait for everyone to get a chance to read it this February!

I knew going into Unloved that it would be an emotional read, but I was not prepared to be GUTTED by Freddy & Ro!

Peyton wrote such an achingly tender and gentle story for these characters. She portrayed their deep emotional wounds, grief and self-doubt in such a soft way.

Freddy & Ro are vulnerable with each other, and both take such care with the others heart. Their whole story is about them learning that they deserve love. Love that isn't manipulative or cruel. That they deserve to be seen, and cherished. It was so heart-warming to see how they slowly allowed themselves to be loved by someone who cares for them so fiercely.

Her writing was fantastic, and the sweet slow-burn was everything I wanted and more.

We also get wonderful moments of friendship. Sadie & Ro, Freddy/Rhys/Bennett have great friendships and I always love seeing those portrayed in romance books. She made me love Sadie/Rhys even more if that's possible, and now I am dying for Bennett's book!!

I'm also hoping we get a book for Toren Kane!! We get a few more glimpses of him, and I think he's a character a lot of us would love.
