I have stared at the blinking cursor for far too long trying to sum up my thoughts on Unloved. My Kindle is left open on the acknowledgements, where the whole book just hits harder. I savored every second of this book, taking far too long to finish it out just because I didn’t want it to be over.

Since I cannot accurately type my thoughts on this book out, I’d thought I would just state facts. Before I was halfway done with Unloved, it was preordered and added to my most anticipated releases for 2025. I cannot wait to annotate, annotate, and annotate some more in my physical copy.

Peyton Corinne has truly wrote a masterpiece of grief, love, healing, mental health, learning differences, and self growth with Unloved.

This book is simply easy to love. ❤️

Thank you NetGalley and Atria Books for an advanced copy of Unloved in exchange for my honest review.

I received a copy of this for my honest review

This story will break you heart, but put it back together in the best way.

Our FMC and MMC technically meet.thwir freshman year of college. It's at a party - he becomes her first kiss, but disappears and doesn't remember the night. Years later they are at another party and she admits she's had a crush on him, but she's drunk and doesn't remember the next morning. Our FMC is working as a tutor and our MMC needs to pass in order to graduate, and remain eligible to play hockey. He already has an NHL contact post graduation, but he won't take the easy way. He's struggled with learning disabilities and she is the first person to try and actually help him. They build a friendship - both wanting more but unwilling to risk what they have. Both a little broken from their past finding it hard to step out as someone new. It's a beautiful story of grief, and working on self love to be able to be with someone who truly cares, not uses them.

Thank you so much to Atria Books and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC of Unloved. I absolutely loved and devoured Unsteady so I was over the moon to be approved for the sequel. I have read a lot of sports romance and there’s something about the way Peyton Corinne combines writes her characters that makes them 3 dimensional, complex, and relatable. I really liked finding out a lot more about Freddie and what drives him and Ro and the depth of her character. The glimpses we got of both characters in Unsteady had me in expecting one thing but I was pleasantly surprised to learn that there was more than met the eye to both main characters. Ro is sensitive and even though she is smart as hell and driven she struggles with low self-esteem and self doubt. Meanwhile Matt/Freddie comes off as unserious and a playboy which he is but it’s because he’s trying so hard to make up for feeling inferior especially in academics. I loved how both characters where what each other needed and the way their relationship developed. I cannot wait to read more in this series.

4.75/5⭐️

“I think you are one of the best people I’ve ever known. And I think it would be almost too easy to fall in love with you.”

this story follows matt fedderic, who is known for being the star left winger for the waterfell wolves and being great in bed. however, he’s doing really bad in classes, struggling with dyslexia, dyscalculia, and ADHD. he desperately needs a tutor to pass his biology class, which is a requirement to graduate, and here enters ro shariff, the hopeless romantic who has had bad luck with relationships, and has had a crush of freddy since freshman year, and now is stuck being his tutor…

wow, i read unsteady a couple months ago, and immediately fell in love with the characters, the story, and the authors writing, and this book did not disappoint. i really didn’t know what to expect with this book, but these two characters related to me on a entirely different level. i really loved reading two characters, who really wanted to be loved, find love within each other, it was so incredible to read. both ro and matty had gone through so much, and it was so enticing to read them both grow throughout the book and get their happily ever after. these two both suited each other’s needs so perfectly, with matty being a great acts of service man, and ro always giving him words of reassurance and affirmation, i highly recommend you read it.

3.5 stars. peyton has a writing style that is easy to get into! I did not realize this book takes place at the same time as unloved. There are a LOT of references to things that happened in that book, so it threw me off at times since I forgot some of the details. I absolutely loved the learning disability representation in this book, I think really showed academic struggles and navigating that through college especially having it portrayed in a male character! Peyton also writes about grief in such a raw/vulnerable way.

Freddy & Ro were so cute and you could tell how much they wanted to support each other!!! Freddy was so down bad and protective of Ro but in such a healthy way!! He wanted to show that girl her worth. I also enjoyed seeing Rhys & Sadie. At times the story felt choppy. For some reason I did not feel as connected/invested like I did while reading unloved. I am so curious to see who is next in the little waterfell crew!

Ro + Matty

-hockey romance
-tutor/athlete
-friends to lovers
-mental illness rep

these two are so special…& i love how real the story is in the way it’s so relatable! matt suffers from so many mental blocks that could have been made easier for him with a little bit of help but he hid them from embarrassment & in which was cast aside! it’s all about how the narcissistic love we accept in our life can damage our self worth & how having the right person on the other side of that can help us heal!! ugh do beautiful!

Absolutely adored this sweet, emotional story. I will always eat up a hockey romance!! I felt connected to the characters right away and really enjoyed witnessing their development. Obsessed with the tutor trope and so much tension!!!

Just WOW yall! I was really looking forward to this one with the hype that I have read and seeing some of the character art on Peyton's insta, but I was still absolutely blown away by this! We got snippets of Ro and Matt AKA Freddy in Unsteady which is kind of cool because this books timeline coincides with Unsteady. These two characters had been through SOOO much. Once again we are dealing with some HEAVY topics- death of a parent (not on page), gaslighting, anxiety, and Peyton once again handled them with such tenderness and rawness. We have Freddy who is the playboy of the group. He is who you got to to have a good time with no strings. We learn that Freddy is wearing a mask- he has so many layers beneath this mask. He carries so much shame and sadness with the passing of his mother and his actions- it was heartbreaking to read. Then we have Rosalie, Ro, who feels that she is a burden to her family. She doesn't want to bother anyone with conflict. She wants to be the perfect person so she is dating a complete jerk who gaslights her constantly. She has zero self-confidence. The way that Tyler treated her had me enraged. When these two meet and then become fast friends- I was rooting for them the whole time. Watching how their interactions slowly transformed from tutor x student to tender and vulnerable was perfection. I loved the Matty fell first but was once again heartbroken that he didn't think he was enough. When they finally came together- I was swooning the whole time.

Ro is once again not sure if she is single. What she does know is that she is going to a party tonight with her roomie Sadie. She wants to let loose and have fun. So that's what she does. She ends up hanging out Matt Frederick, hockey extraordinarie, who she has had a crush on since forever. She jumps off a roof and swims in a pool. She sheds her shell for the night. And then she wakes up and remembers that she is his new tutor. She has to act professional. She has to remember that he doesn't care about her. But she does recognize that he needs help- he has dyscalculia and dyslexia. So she works with him how she can. She tries to determine what the best way for him to learn is all while they remain professional. But then they start seeing each other outside of this environment. They exchange numbers and light texts. He is so different from her on again off again BF Tyler. He is consistent. He shows up. He is carefree. But she starts to wonder if all of that is a mask. She sees snippets of a more vulnerable person and she wants to meet him. So when they decide to become friends- she's in. She wants to show him that he is deserving of someone fighting for him. She is angered at how he has been treated. Somehow she can't channel any of this energy towards herself but he does it for her. He shows up for her. He tries to show her how she deserves to be treated. And ever so slightly they flourish and open up together. They can't fight this connection anymore. A kiss leads to more. Matt makes her feel that how she feels is amazing. He shows her how to gain her confidence. So she continues to do the same for him. She just needs him to fully let her in because he has become her person. What they have is to beautiful for just friendship- she just hopes he sees it too.

Matt AKA Freddy is living the life. Or at least that's how it looks on the outside. Inside- he has never felt like he is enough. He got burned BAD right after his mom passed away. So now he doesn't do strings. He has a good time and then goes back to his room where he is miserable alone. Until he meets her. Rosalie. And the first night they hang out she drunkenly tells him, he would be easy to love. He can't stop thinking about that. Could it be true? Could it be with her? He realizes she is his tutor and that he actually wants to come to his sessions now. She is trying new techniques and taking time with him that none of his tutors have before. She is still keeping him at a distance but he is patient. So when she starts opening up about her kind of BF- Matt decides that he is going to do everything in his power to show her what she deserves. Because she deserves the world. They keep saying they are just friends because they are both scared to ruin what they have. He has never felt this close to someone or like he can breakdown and cry and not be judged. He hasn't had someone advocate for him and make him feel less alone until her. He has never really talked about his mom or Archer until her. He definitely hasn't talked about the woman who broke him until her. And instead of leaving- she stays. So he does what he can't stop thinking about doing- he drops the mask and owns himself because he wants to be who she deserves.

These two had to WORK towards their love. They had to literally break down some walls and fight for it. I was just blown away by their story and their journey to get to their HEA. Reading about Freddy's anguish was heartbreaking. Reading about how both of these beautiful souls were taken advantage of and treated they way they were was tragic BUT watching them come together and help repair each other was magical.

Can I just also say that I LOVED getting more glimpses of our future MCs- I am looking at you Bennett. I can't WAIT to read about him and Paloma Blake of all people. Who I am assuming was sleeping in his bed while his service dog Seven was watching over her- SWOON. Bennett giving Ro advice on how to love someone just SIGH! I am also looking at you Toren with your Van Gogh tattoos. Peyton these teasers were amazing but also killed me. If you haven't picked up this series, I can't recommend it enough!!

Thank you to NetGalley and to Peyton for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

"I think you'd be really easy to love."
Ahhhhh the love I have for Matty I just want to give him a big hug 🥺

Unloved is the second book in the Undone series, following Unsteady.
This book was amazing. I loved Unsteady but I think I love this one even more.

We follow Ro and Freddy as they go from strangers to tutor/student to friends to more. Ro is in a toxic relationship with an asshole and when she starts to tutor the playboy hockey player she's had a crush on for years, he shows her that she deserves so much more. Freddy is trying to keep his eligibility to play hockey while struggling with dyslexia, dyscalculia and ADHD. Ro is the first person at school to want to genuinely help him and find him tools to succeed so he wants to protect her at all costs.

I absolutely loved how their relationship progressed from professional, to friends, to more. The slow burn was slow but so worth it. Both of them had great character development which I really appreciate.

I highly recommend if you're looking for a slow burn hockey romance with flawed characters who have depth.
The timeline of this book is the same as Unsteady so I feel you could read them in whatever order or even at the same time. I loved the little glimpses we had of Saddie and Rhys it make me want to reread it 🤭

First, I enjoyed this much more than I initially thought an devoured in under 12 hours! Also, I haven't read Unsteady (the first book in this series) and this read perfectly fine as a standalone. In addition to being a hockey book, which I love, there was also some heavier topics making it much more relatable and I think this is why I loved it so much. I loved how both Freddy and Ro felt misunderstood and it broke my heart to hear what they've been told by others to make them feel bad about themselves. Their friendship is just everything as it develops and I couldn't get enough!

Read if you enjoy: college hockey romance, friends to lovers, she's his tutor, learning to love themselves & be loved

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book before the release date. I actually jumped up and down when I got the approval email. I loved the first book so much. This really gave the vibe a second book in a series gives. There was so much grief lightly sprinkled in the whole book. Freddy was too typical of a standard hockey guy. Ro was such a delight through the book. The butterflies were great. It’s not a book that I would consider on my comfort shelf. So I won’t reread it.

Secretly soft boy meets not-so-secretly soft girl, romance ensues.

In Unsteady, we're introduced to both Ro (Sadie's roommate and best friend) and Freddy (Rhys' roommate and teammate). You learn that Ro is the steadfast only friend of the prickly Sadie, with a loser on-and-off-again boyfriend. Freddy is the charming rake, up for a good time at all times, but you can sense that there's something deeper at play.

Their characters are given room to develop in Unloved. Ro's loser boyfriend is even worse than you can imagine, having spent their time together slowly eroding her self-esteem and convincing her that everything she wants is the wrong thing. Freddy may be the charming rake, but he'd prefer not to be. He uses his rakish reputation as a cover for deep grief and awful relationship with his father. When Ro becomes Freddy's tutor, she sees behind the curtain, learning how Freddy puts on a show because of his own self-esteem issues.

Perhaps my favorite part of this book is Ro's steadfast willingness to go to bat for Freddy--with his father, with his professors, and with his exes (including one particularly shitty one). She shows him he's worth being loved. On the flip side, Freddy gives Ro the room to be what she wants to be and do what she wants to do. Again, soft boy meets soft girl romance, but with a lot of heart and depth.

There are a few plotlines that feel extra to the storyline and I think this is a book that could be at least 75 pages shorter with better editing of redundant situations. But, the overall story and characters (I will always love a reformed rake, I can't help it) make up for those shortcomings.

This book is also told in parallel to the story in Unsteady, which I'm a fan of. While it can be read as a standalone, I think you benefit from reading the first in the series to see the bits and pieces of Ro and Freddy's story and to understand the relationship development of Sadie and Rhys.

I will also be very honest that I am *very excited* for what I imagine is the next book in the series. There are plenty of breadcrumbs left throughout Unloved to show that one is going to be just as emotional and rewarding as the first two books.

When I signed up for an arc of this book, I thought it was going to be a sweet and spicy sports romance. This book had me tearing up more often than I anticipated. The character growth for both Matt (Freddy) and Rosalie (Ro) was so good. Ro comes off awkward because she doubts her self worth, and Freddy is over the top socially, he is the popular jock with a reputation. She becomes his tutor because he is failing some classes. Freddy has ADHD, Dyslexia and Dyscalculia. Through their time together, Ro and Freddy, they develop a friendship. I loved that Freddy was a shameless flirt, and this had me giggling and kicking my feet. I really liked that Freddy was protective of Ro, and she was protective of him. This was my first book by Peyton Corinne, and it won't be my last.

This book will be available Feb 04, 2025.

TWs: narcissistic partner, emotional abuse from a partner, grief, grieving the death of a parent

absolutely loved the first book so i was excited when i got approved for this book!! i wasn’t a big fan of friends to lovers until i read this like freddy and ro are SO CUTE. like i don’t have anything bad to say about this book except once they got together i got a little bored but i think that’s a me problem BUT ALSO the epilogue made up for it (iykyk) !!

i did like unsteady better bc of the black cat x golden retriever trope, like that’s just one of my favs ever

also, there better be a bennett book.. every time he was mentioned i just needed more of him and i need to learn every little thing about him.

thank you so much netgalley for this arc :)

5⭐ guys this book had me going against my morals...and by that i mean liking a blonde man.

ONLY BLONDE MEN EVER TO EXIST EVER:
1. aaron warner
2. dean dilaurentis
3. matt freddric 🆕

this book was sosososo good. like wow. the writing the characters the story the romance just everything. the first book (unsteady) i liked and rated 3.75 stars but i didnt connect with the characters and the story as much as i did in this one. matt and ro are literally one of my favorite couples of 2024 coming in right at the end.

first ro...she is me and i am her. genuinely one of the most relatable fmc's ive ever read and i understood her character so so well. she was such an adorable and soft character that could also be a badass and i love her with my whole heart💗💗 like hopeless romantic academic who wears bows?? thats my twin. my heart hurt so much in all the scenes with tyler and how he treated her. literally drop kick this man to jupiter cause LEAVE MY GIRL ALONE WHAT DID SHE DO TO YOU?? im the #1 tyler donaldson hater just btw

matt...freddy...matty...new book boyfriend. wow do i love this man. peyton corinne really got me out here confessing my love for a blonde man. one thing about me is i loveeee me some "reformed player" trope or like "hopeless romantic player" especially in hockey romance and matty DID THE DAMN THING👏👏 not only did it perfectly fit one of my favorite micro tropes but it was looked at and written on such a deeper level and i loved seeing all the different sides and masks that matt had and his past. i loved how his academic and family and social struggles were written and explored and i just love him. and hes so boyfriend coded like all he wants is his girl and hes so smitten and giddy like omg 🥰🥰

this series clearly just keeps getting better and i am soo excited for the next one (BENNETT PLEASE) i need more of these couples and these characters and this team. thank you to netgalley for the ARC!!💕

SHEESH. Freddy and Ro deserve nothing but good things. These are two of the most lovable characters in the history of ever but they both have been treated badly in the past & are convinced that they are unlovable. I loved watching them support each other and grow in themselves and in their relationship.

I absolutely love Peyton Corinne’s writing. Her books always keep me hooked and she creates such incredible, multifaceted characters. I love that we get to see the not so glamorous sides of the characters and get to love them through it. As a member of the dead parent club, stories about grief always get me. Matty’s grief was very real and relatable. Definitely had me tearing up at times.

I love this series & I can’t wait for it to continue!

Tutor x student, hockey romance, kinda second chance romance, forced proximity, anxiety and overthinking, grief, no third act breakup

To start, you do not have to read the first book, Unsteady, to read this one. I didn’t, and I had no problem following events or people.

This book hit very close to home with both the main characters anxiety and overthinking. I am constantly rethinking every little thing that I do, and I have been diagnosed with high functioning anxiety that has gotten worse the past few months. On a lighthearted note, it also reminds me how me and my significant other met, so that was adorable.

Get your tissues ready because this book made me cry multiple times. It just pulls on your heart in the best way. I was able to feel every emotion in this book along with the characters and it was a heavier book than I was expecting.

My only complaint is that (as far as I know) undergraduate students cannot be a TA for a course. They can be a student aid for a teacher, but a TA is a graduate student position.

This is definitely a slowburn friends-to-lovers story! Ro and Freddy had a lot of baggage. When Ro was tutoring Matty (aka Freddy), she was in a toxic relationship that was also her colleague. Matty loved being around Ro and he cared so much about her. This is a hockey romance, with a lot of emotions! I read Unsteady by this author earlier this year, and found that this book deals with different topics/tropes. This book didn’t personally relate to me, but it was still gut-wrenching to read. Matty and Ro were so vulnerable with each other. They unpacked a lot and I adored their chemistry.

This book can be read as a standalone, but Rhys and Sadie from Unsteady made appearances throughout this book which I loved! I would give this book 4.5 stars!

Thank you so much Netgalley + Atria for this ARC in exchange for a review! Unsteady was one of the first books I read that got me back into reading (I read the indie published version and loved it 🥹).
