In *Unloved*, the highly anticipated follow-up to the TikTok sensation *Unsteady*, Peyton Corinne takes readers on a heartfelt journey through the tumultuous relationship between hopeless romantic Ro Shariff and star hockey player Matt “Freddy” Fredderic. This sequel expertly delves into themes of self-worth, healing, and the complexities of love, making it a must-read for fans of contemporary romance.
Freddy is the quintessential charming athlete, known for his prowess on the ice as a left winger for the Waterfell Wolves. However, beneath his confident exterior lies a struggle with academic challenges, including dyslexia, dyscalculia, and ADHD. Corinne does a fantastic job of portraying Freddy's vulnerabilities as he grapples with the pressure of his NHL aspirations and the weight of a lackluster GPA. The tension between his athletic reputation and academic struggles creates a relatable and multifaceted character, drawing readers into his journey of self-acceptance and growth.
Ro, on the other hand, is a hopeful romantic who finds herself in a pattern of unfulfilling relationships. Her new role as Freddy's tutor introduces an unexpected dynamic, as she tries to convince herself that she’s happy with her on-again, off-again boyfriend. The connection she begins to develop with Freddy is both poignant and complicated, especially as memories of their shared history come flooding back, including a first kiss that Freddy seems to have forgotten. Ro’s character is both relatable and endearing, making her quest for true affection resonate deeply with readers.
The chemistry between Ro and Freddy is palpable and beautifully crafted. As their tutoring sessions evolve into late-night phone calls and intimate conversations, the emotional stakes heighten. Corinne captures the essence of young love—its innocence, passion, and the often unspoken fears that accompany it. The transformation of their friendship into something deeper is not only believable but also profoundly moving, as both characters confront their insecurities and learn to lean on each other for support.
What sets *Unloved* apart is its exploration of the healing qualities of love. As Freddy seeks to prove his worth beyond his reputation, Ro endeavors to show him that he is deserving of genuine affection and respect. Their interactions are filled with gentle affection and true admiration, allowing them to reveal their hidden pains and ultimately find solace in one another. Corinne deftly illustrates how love can be a catalyst for personal growth, urging both characters to embrace their imperfections.
The writing is engaging and immersive, with well-drawn supporting characters that enrich the narrative. Friends and teammates add depth and realism to the story, creating a vibrant backdrop for Ro and Freddy's relationship. Corinne's ability to weave humor and tenderness into the narrative makes for a balanced and enjoyable reading experience.
In conclusion, *Unloved* is a captivating sequel that beautifully explores the journey of self-discovery and the complexities of young love. Peyton Corinne has crafted a story that is both touching and relatable, reminding readers that everyone is deserving of love, regardless of their past or their perceived flaws. Ro and Freddy’s journey is a testament to the healing power of connection, making this book a must-read for fans of romance.
After reading Unsteady, I wasn't sure if Unloved would be able to live up to such an amazing book, but it definitely did!
The sweet build-up of Ro and Freddy's relationship was realistic and tastefully written. Their connection was obvious right off the bat, but the build-up is what truly made it special! The portrayal of love and grief was so beautiful and looked at through so many different lenses. The characters are written in a way that seems so real and never falls flat. I can't wait for everyone to read this on Feb 4th and can't wait to read anything else Peyton writes!
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the arc in exchange for an honest review.
I love this book so much. It was just so sweet and I was rooting so much for Matty and Ro.
I feel this book did a great job covering some really hard topics like (grief/abuse/narcissism) and the impact it has on people.
This is a book that will hold a special place in my reader’s heart! Not only did I see so much of myself in Ro and Freddy but the representation of learning disabilities and ADHD made my heart feel like it was exploding (in a good way)! As someone who works with students with learning disabilities seeing this explored in such a vulnerable and real way felt so validating to the challenges they overcome every single day!
I really loved how Peyton explored Ro and Freddy's feelings of not being good enough and felt like their anxieties were really well explored and written. The inner voice doubting themselves felt so real and in my opinion really captures the experience of anxiety and self-doubt. I enjoyed the depth of both characters!
It also doesn’t hurt that Freddy doesn’t shame Ro for her love of bodice rippers and listens to spicy audiobooks with her! We love a supportive man who definitely benefits from the research 😉
This book broke my heart. I was sobbing at 2 am just to finish it and I just wanted to give Matty a hug. All anyone ever wants is to be loved and that’s all he ever wanted. Ro loved him with her whole heart and showed her just how easy he was to fall in love with ! This book was perfect and will forever have a place in my heart 💗
Unloved is a beautiful book about working through grief, loss and love. Peyton Corinne is a stunning writer, and I am so blessed to have been given an ARC through NetGalley for this book.
"I think falling in love with you is the easiest thing I've ever done."
This quote undid me. The raw honest emotion in this book is something that a very select few authors do well. I am glad that it was dual POV because learning the in depth feeling, trouble and grief from both Freddy and Ro heightens the book in incomprehensible ways. I laughed, cried, and swooned hard during my read.
Ro and Freddy's relationship starts with her being his tutor and evolves from there, both scared and both hurting. It is a true testament to friendship at the base of everything. One thing I love about the Undone series is there is no "act two break up". These characters feel real and honest. It is also so fascinating to see how this story overlaps with Unsteady.
I am so excited for this series to continue. I am hoping Bennett is next. If you are looking for a book with
-emotional depth,
-a cinnamon roll/sunshine couple,
-Strangers to lovers (and everything else on the way),
-non-neurotypical MMC
Then this book is for you. Give it a shot and I hope you fall in love with them like I did.
As always, when it comes to a roller coaster of emotions, I will always to Payton Corrine. She has managed to capture everything from shy good girl, to an on and off the ice player, to see the emotional impact that these characters have both together and without eachother is absolutely heart warming, and breaking at the same time.
I will always recommend these books no matter what, because of how believable and lovable the characters are.
There where parts I was giggling like a school girl and parts I was crying, Taylor swift on repeat kinda crying, I can’t wait for this to come out!!!
I want to thank NetGalley and Atria Books for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
So wow? These are some of softest characters I’ve ever read about and it made me cry😭 I loved the first book so much so I knew this one wasn’t gonna be any different. Freddy, aka Matty, was just the absolute sweetest soul ever. This man endured so much from losing his mother and having a piece of shit father who just never cared about him, to finding Rosalie and getting what it feels like to actually feel wanted and loved😭🥺 Rosalie honestly reminds me of myself.. sweet, super shy and not experienced at all in the bedroom😂 (but figured it out with the help of sexy Matty) ugh I just loved these 2 so much.
OKAY SO this book was so cute. The author did such an amazing job writing about the heavy topics in this book. I feel as many women in life can relate to Ro’s relationship with her ex. Being able to portray that into this book and have Ro grow from that was just amazing. I loved the timeline of this book as well, being able to make the connections from the first standalone was something that made the story even more full circle. Fingers crossed we get Bennett’s story next 🫡🫡

I LOVED this book! I am so so honored that I got chosen to review an ARC of Unloved! I loved the first one Unsteady with Rhys and Sadie’s story BUT Freddy and Ro’s story I relate to in a sense of also being a people pleaser and staying in a toxic relationship.
Freddy is the PERFECT book boyfriend! He’s kind and caring and super patient with Ro and her feelings. 🫶🏼
Ro is a woman that figures out her self worth and goes for what she wants! She says the big L word first and I LOVE it! ☺️
If you haven’t read Unsteady I highly encourage you too before reading Unloved but it’s not necessary! 🩷
Finished this book multiple days ago and I’m still not sure I know how to organize my thoughts. This book is magic.
This is so deeply a friends to lovers story, and I loved getting to see their friendship develop SO beautifully. Often times friends to lovers involves people who have been friends for years only just suddenly realizing they’re romantically attracted to each other. That’s not this. Ro and Freddy formed their friendship SO organically and their souls immediately latched onto each other. This book has so much platonic love. Whether that be between our main couple or each of their friends, this makes you want to hug your best friend.
This book is dedicated to the dead parents club, and as a card holding member who is also the partner of another card holding member: fucking OUCH, Peyton. I had to turn off my kindle, set it aside, and sob into my hands for multiple minutes about part of this.
The part of me that loves education and loved connecting with students was cheering every time Freddy made any progress in his tutoring. God I’m so proud of these fictional characters.
The found family is so so so so so pure I’ll never forget it.
This book takes place at chronologically almost the exact same time as Unsteady and that was really interesting to me. Usually I don’t like that because I don’t like plot events to repeat but this didn’t feel like that at all. It was perfect.
(And while I don’t usually support home wrecking, the line “I score on defended nets all the time” as a response to “I have a boyfriend” is a fucking BANGER)
Peyton, can you call me up and tell me every detail about your plan for Bennett’s book because I simply cannot wait as long as I’m going to have to for it.
If you see me wearing bows in my hair now, mind your business.

5⭐️!!!!
This book was beautiful!! It showed how grief and love are one with each other. I couldn’t put this book down!
Matt is such a kind soul and he has been through so much yet he still looks out for everyone. And Ro has such a big heart yet still struggles to find the heart to love parts of herself because of what she has gone through.
These two characters are so real and raw and you can’t help but love them. Everyone can find a part of themselves in Matt and/or Ro. They speak from the heart, these characters, they love and want to be loved so deeply. I will forever think about their story!
Go read this book!! It has so much heart, so much charm, but also deals with heavier topics that bring a deeper connection to the characters and readers!!
This was a beautiful book! ❤️🩹 I loved it with my entire heart!!
I tried to go into this book with no expectations, just because when I first read unsteady I didn’t really like it. Overall this book was a good easy read and I enjoyed it a lot more. I felt like Ro and Freddy really understood each other, and I enjoyed seeing how their relationship progressed. It did really irritate me how long Ro put up with her ex, but that’s just how some relationships work out unfortunately.
Much like 'Unsteady', the care shown for learning disability rep and mental health rep is very clear from the start. I am by no means the people pleaser type like Ro and Matty, but it was so easy to see and understand things from their point of view, a testament to how well-developed these characters were crafted by Peyton. Watching them grieve and heal and learn and love was a privilege. Getting the 'Unsteady' family throughout left me beaming with joy. The crumbs of other Waterfell Hockey players stories were gobbled up by yours truly.
Once again, Peyton wrote something more than a romance. This story covers grief, trauma, self-worth, and learning to be seen as you truly are is to be loved. I can't wait to see what Peyton has in store for us with the rest of this series.
4.5 Stars, 2 spice
“I think you’d be really easy to love.”
Thank you to Atria and NetGalley for the e-arc. Unloved is out 2/4/25, and is book two in the Undone series!
In Unloved we follow best friends of the main characters from the first book, Unsteady. Unsteady was my top contemporary book of 2023 so I highly recommend you read that first - the books have overlapping timelines so we see some of the same scenes from a different perspective!
There is no doubt that Peyton Corinne is one of my favorite authors. She writes such beautifully complex characters. She always gives them growth and development individually as well as a couple.
We follow Ro, school tutor and hopeless romantic, who is stuck in an on and off again relationship with a narcissist, and Freddy, Left winger, who has a reputation of being player, and is struggling to pass his classes (he has some unsupported learning differences - ADHD, Dyscalculia and dyslexia)
Ro ends up being brought in as Freddy’s tutor for this new semester, and they start to kindle a new friendship. Both of them can see how the other has be discounted, and mistreated by others in their lives, and some late night calls and friendship starts to turn into something more.
These are two people who are not only learning how to be authentically themselves, but learning to stand up to people who mistreat them, and are working to accept that they are not only lovable, but ARE loved, even with their flaws.
I want more around the conclusion with antagonists in this story, but I can totally see how it was shown in a way that is most realistic. I will say that I did struggle to read some of the scenes with the narcissists, Peyton clearly did her research or has experienced this kind of behavior, because it was enraging!
But I just loved how she had both of these characters grow, and the way they worked through their own struggles (especially some of Freddy’s toughest moments had me in tears), their relationship and their family issues were handled perfectly. No notes.
THE EPILOGUE was everything. I was in literal tears. Just so beautifully wrapped up, and I am a sucker for an epilogue that is several years out vs an immediate one.
SO excited for Bennett and Toren’s books, seeing small glimpses of them through this book has me dying for more. I also cannot freaking wait for the audio of this book, the first book is amazing on audio!

**Review of *Unloved* by Peyton Corinne**
Peyton Corinne’s *Unloved* is a gem of a novel that hits all the right notes—think heartfelt moments, witty banter, and the kind of emotional depth that keeps you turning pages late into the night. Meet Matt “Freddy” Fredderic, the star left winger for the Waterfell Wolves, who’s got the smile and swagger to charm everyone on the ice but is barely scraping by in the classroom. It turns out, while Freddy can skate circles around his opponents, he’s struggling with dyslexia, dyscalculia, and ADHD. Talk about a double life!
Then there’s Ro Shariff, our hopeless romantic with a knack for finding love in all the wrong places—like a bad rom-com with more plot twists than a hockey game! Assigned as Freddy’s tutor, she’s caught between wanting to help him succeed and wrestling with her own messy romantic entanglements. Their late-night phone calls morph from academic struggles to heartfelt confessions, revealing their hidden pains and aspirations. It’s the kind of friendship that starts out sweet but quickly simmers with an undeniable chemistry that’s impossible to ignore.
One of the highlights of *Unloved* is how it deftly explores themes of self-worth. Freddy is on a mission to prove he’s more than just a star athlete with a questionable reputation, while Ro wrestles with her lingering crush from freshman year. Can we just pause for a moment to appreciate the tension of unrequited love and secret pining? It’s like watching a slow-motion collision, and I was here for every delicious moment!
Corinne's writing is a delightful mix of humor and heart. She knows how to craft a scene that’s both laugh-out-loud funny and achingly tender. The characters leap off the page with their quirks and vulnerabilities, making you want to cheer them on as they navigate their tangled emotions. The pacing is spot on, building toward a climax that left me both breathless and grinning like a fool.
*Unloved* isn’t just a romance; it’s a reminder that love can thrive in the most unexpected places, even when we’re still figuring out who we are. Corinne has woven a story that’s both relatable and inspiring, encouraging us to embrace our flaws and recognize the beauty in our messy lives. Whether you’re a sports romance aficionado or just someone who loves a good love story, this novel will capture your heart. So grab a cozy blanket, pour yourself a glass of something comforting, and dive into this enchanting tale—you won’t want to miss a moment!
I had the pleasure of reading Peyton Corinne's debut novel, UNSTEADY, as an ARC before she indie published and I absolutely loved it. But after reading UNLOVED, dare I say. I have a new favorite?
UNLOVED felt both like a sucker punch to the gut and a warm hug. I'm unsure if I've ever related more to a character than I related to Ro from page one. From her awkwardness and wanting to fit in freshman year to the toxic situationship she found herself in to the people pleasing tendencies and just wanting someone to lover her, I related to her deep in my soul. And I also related to Freddy/Matt in a way.
Peyton handles heavy topics with such care and although I cried several times while reading, I also found myself smiling ear to ear at Matt and Ro's relationship. They're truly the definition of patient love and seeing someone for who they are and loving them despite their flaws. This was a slow burn, but being able to see the friendship grow felt like how a relationship in real life should be.
I can't wait to see what Peyton does next and I'm so honored to have been able to read UNLOVED early.

ARC review
Genuinely one of the best books I’ve read this year. Matty how I love you I don’t even have the words. He rivals every other soft love/ let’s be soft with one another MMCs I’ve ever read. I was hysterical the majority of this book to the point I couldn’t read it in public because I couldn’t control my out loud reactions. I desperately want the chance to be loved the way Matty and Ro love one another. The way they always support one another, give space for the other, always always always treasure each other is so incredibly special.
Rosalie specifically made me have multiple breakdowns because of her relationship with Tyler. It mirrored my first relationship in ways that still makes me embarrassed. To see her find someone who truly loves her for who she is and adore all the different parts of herself was so moving. The way they were able to stand up for each other even when they couldn’t do the same for themselves was so gut wrenching. I think watching Matty who hasn’t had someone stand up for him finally have someone in his corner made something honest to god shatter in my chest.
Emotional damage 10/10 would recommend ♾️/10
Rating: 4/5
I thought this book was overall really light and fun, but also dealt with some tough issues at points and handled them really well. I’ve definitely met people like Freddy’s dad and like Tyler, but have also (thankfully) known people like Ro, Freddy, Archer, and Sadie. I really enjoyed the flow of this book, as well as the ease with which Ro and Freddy’s relationship developed. I especially liked the ending, it made my heart happy to know how their story continued and turned out.
Thank you Altria Books for providing an early copy on Netgalley in exchange for a review!
First of all, I would like to thank Peyton Corinne for writing this book.
Then, I would like to thank the publisher and NetGalley for giving me an arc of this book.
If you would like to read a short review, then I would say that this book was so beautiful and emotional, and it was really everything, and everyone should read it.
This book came to me at the perfect time; after 5 long months of not really reading romance books, I finally had the chance to read it. And the cherry on top: I got to start it on Sadie Gray (Brown)'s birthday, and I got to finish it on the original release day of the first book. So if you don't believe in destiny, can you tell me what this is?
But if you would ask me on a deeper level, I would say this, and prepare yourself because it is basically a love letter to Peyton:
A little less than a year ago, I was watching TikToks, as everyone does, and I came across this video about the hockey golden boy having a panic attack in front of a grumpy figure skater. And I knew back then that that book was for me. It was written for me, and I have to read that, so less than two weeks after its release, I read Unsteady. And as you probably can tell, I was completely obsessed with it. And in that book, I met a girl named Aurora. Do you remember her? Cause I do. I fell in love with her right away, the sweet best friend of our beloved black cat figure skater, who loves reading romance books, just like I do. And Freddy, the boy who makes everyone smile. Now, Rora changed her name to Rosalie (Ro), but we finally got her story. Their story. And just like I said earlier, it was everything and more. Two souls longing to be loved, to be understood, to be seen, drawn to each other like magnets. We got romance, we got love, we got hockey... What else do you want? Go, read it!
