If you're looking for a fun brief biography for a 1st or 2nd grader, this audiobook, featuring music, special effects, and a delightfully perky narrator, is the perfect one to choose. It tells the story of a girl who would grow up to be one of the United States most influential African American engineers while working at NASA in the early 1960's. This exuberant biography was written by one of her former students who is now an author and engineer.
Yvonne Clark's engineering spark was her instinct for figuring out how things worked. Her problem-solving power got her a job at NASA, where she solved the problem of the Saturn V rocketโs F-1 engine overheating. This audiobook describes a chain of problems when Clark was a child that she would cleverly solve by applying her engineering spark of talent. It's a fun way for an adult to spend less than 15 minutes listening to as well.
Reminded me of Ada Twist, Scientist.
This is a high-quality audiobook production with a musical soundtrack and narrated by Melinda Sewak. I love the soft ragtime/jazz feel of the soundtrack. It's fun and I think helps to get kids excited about the story.
This is primarily a biography of engineer Yvonne Clark. Yvonne is compared to a superhero living in your own neighborhood. What I find the most interesting is that Yvonne managed all of this in the 1930s, which is the height of the Jim & Jane Crow Era. This isn't addressed in the book because the story is kept at kid appropriate levels.
The musical soundtrack plays throughout the entire story. It plays lightly in the background and works to enhance rather than detract from the story.
This story is perfect for grade school-aged children. This has the feel of a Black History Month selection. I highly recommend this educational and fun story.

I received a copy of this audiobook frm netGalley for a honest review.
What a great story told with such fun! I enjoyed this audiobook about Yvonne Clark and her inspritional story. I also enjoyed the authors note to learn that they were taught by Yvonne made this book even better.
This was such a wonderful, fun, positive, inspiring audiobook! Yvonne Clark knew from a young age that she enjoyed taking things apart and figuring them out, but there weren't as many opportunities back then for her to study engineering. She didn't care what people thought, and she worked to do what she wanted anyway. This is such a wonderful story that encourages young girls to pursue their dreams. The audiobook was fantastic, and the narrator was so upbeat. Thanks to NetGalley for letting me listen to this audiobook.
Loved this inspiring story, especially on audio! The music set the atmosphere and the sound effects, from the toaster to the rockets, will be sure to engage the most distracted readers! This is a great one.

Cute, engaging and fun.
I absolutely adored this audiobook and I know that kids will enjoy it too, from the friendly narrator to the fun sound effects everything about this book will draw in the attention of little ones.
On top of all the fun this book goes along Yvonne Clarkโs life and her interest in engineering , an amazing woman that used her spark and love for Engineering to better the world.
This book also shows the difficulties women and people of color faced in the past and how much harder they had to work just to be given the same opportunity as men and white people.
All in all I highly recommend this audiobook to anyone looking for stories for their little ones.
**Book Review: "Yvonne Spark and Her Engineering Spark" by Allen R. Wells**
Allen R. Wellsโ "Yvonne Spark and Her Engineering Spark" is an inspiring true story account of a young girl with a passion for engineering. The story encourages creativity and problem-solving as Yvonne navigates challenges in her journey, all while breaking stereotypes in a male-dominated field.
Wells effectively integrates educational elements, making complex engineering concepts accessible for young readers. The engaging illustrations enhance the narrative, while Yvonne's relatable character inspires kids, particularly girls, to pursue STEM careers.
Overall, this book is a delightful and educational read that encourages curiosity and ambition, making it a great addition to any children's library.
I could not love this any more!! Iโm a mom to a kindergartener and Mechanical Engineer, and Yvonne Clarkโs story has opened the door to a lot of great conversations about how and why certain industries are more challenging for women and people of color. Overall this is a wonderful story of an incredible woman that also translates beautifully into audio.
Thank you to NetGalley for an eARC of this title in exchange for my honest review.
