The banter, the ups and downs, and the total story had me completely captivated within the first few pages. I couldn't get enough of this book!
Juliana lost her husband and was left providing for her young girls alone. She had family and a good support system, but even though she would forever love her late husband, she felt lonely. She had to return to the workforce where she met Ben.. handsome, charming, aggravating, irresistible. They quickly fell into a non-stop battle of wits, constantly harassing each other, fighting, and keeping score.
Enemies to lovers done correctly! This was the perfect mix of hate/love that ends with happily ever after!
Jeanie is hilarious. She had me laughing out loud. Ben was irresistible even when I was angry with him for making a dumb mistake involving his daughter. His ex-wife? What a mess that was!
I loved this story! 10/5 stars! It's so spicy as well!
I have some mixed feelings about this book. While the banter was cute (sometimes) and I do love a workplace enemies to lovers story , this one didn’t work for me. The main character, Julianna, came across as a bit too whiney for me… I think some of the ‘hate’ Julianna had for Ben was kind of immature. I think it would have been nice to have gotten Ben’s POV in a couple places. I do understand that the book is from Julianna’s POV and it’s important for the narrative to be consistent, but I think if we had Ben’s perspective for just a few key moments, it would have helped us understand where he was coming from.
This book dealt with a lot of heavy topics, but I felt that the ending was a bit of a mess. The story handled single parenting, the loss of a spouse, and re-entering the job force, among other things, and, to me, it didn't feel resolved.
The book Let’s Call a Truce is about main characters, Julianna and Ben, and their daughters. I had so many questions about the conclusion of the book and the resolution it provided.
2.5 stars
I did not care for the narration of this audiobook.

I enjoyed listening to this enemies to lovers story. It’s always refreshing to come across a story about older adults in their 30s finding love.
That being said, the third act conflict/break up felt so unnecessary, especially since the characters should have been mature enough to communicate and work through the problem.
Overall, it’s a cute listen if you like office romances.
Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for an advanced copy of the audiobook.
Very cute enemies to lovers story. Great escape book with the right amount of angst, humor and romance. Good narrators.
On Juliana's first day back into the work force a handsome man catches her eye. She berates herself for being attracted to him after the loss of her husband. Arriving to the offices she overhears said man speaking negatively about her. Game on. There is only absolutely necessary communication over the next two years. Being sent on a work conference together is the last either wants. With it being in Ben's hometown of Boston he offers to show her the sights. This leads to some sexy times in the hotel room. Upon returning home they decide to keep their new relationship just between the two of them. With having real feelings for one another they decide it's time to tell friends and family. A ghost from Ben's past shows up and all plans are ruined. I admired Ben for trying to put his daughter first but this didn't need to be an all or nothing situation. Juliana's sit back and wait approach didn't help matters. This was a cute single parents, enemy to lovers second chance romance that was a quick and enjoyable story. Thank you to Netgalley and Macmillan Audio for this free advanced audio copy. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Three stars. Perfectly average, and kept me hooked listening. Some of the banter was cute, but so much of the first part is childish fighting. A huge part of this is the miscommunication trope that I loathe, mixed with my other least favorite trope in sayyy the third act?! The drama was out of character and pointless, but really I didn’t connect with either character enough to care. Very well narrated.
The story seemed to be repetitive and this is going to be a DNF for me. Made it through 5 chapters and the dialogue seemed very immature for a mom of 2 grieving her husband. Idea was nice but execution was too childish for me to continue
I literally stayed up devouring this book, I really have no words for how much I loved it. It's an angsty, funny, relatable and sexy ride of a book. I thought it would be a simple enemies to lovers book but it came with an unexpected twist and so much depth. Juliana's struggle with grief struck a cord within me and I appreciate an author who can write grief well. Ben is such a top tier mmc, always challenging Juliana and lifting her up and supporting her. They both had their flaws but in the end they're perfect for each other. I am so looking forward to whatever Amy Buchanan does next! Thank you NetGalley.
Let's Call a Truce is the perfect balance of steam and substance, and the audiobook version brings these elements to life beautifully! The narrator truly captured the sizzling tension of the rivals to lovers and slow burn romance, with the added bonus of he falls first—a trope that feels even sweeter in her voices. The narrator's mature, authentic portrayals make the characters even more relatable, especially since they’re navigating love, careers, and parenting.
I loved the Florida setting, with its Orlando and UF references adding a fun, personal connection for me as a UCF grad married to a UF alum. Hearing the familiar locations made the story extra special! If you’re looking for a romance audiobook that mixes open-door spice with heartfelt moments, this one is a must-listen.
Thank you NetGalley and publisher for this arc!!
What a good book! I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. I loved the main characters! They had great chemistry and worked so well together. I loved how the book just flowed. My first by this author but will not be my last!! I loved the spice in this one!!
"Let’s Call a Truce" by Amy Buchanan follows Juliana Ryan, a widow juggling her return to work while raising two young girls. The dynamic between her and Ben Thomas unfolds as a classic enemies-to-lovers trope, filled with tension and humor. Their initial feud adds depth to their relationship, making the eventual romance satisfying. Buchanan skillfully balances family life and personal growth, creating a heartfelt story that resonates. Overall, a compelling read with engaging characters and a lovely emotional arc. 4 stars well-deserved!
This book was such a delightful surprise from a new-to-me author! Let's Call a Truce ticks several fun boxes:
- female main character in her 30s (also: widow, single mother)
- single father male main character
- enemies-to-lovers
- workplace romance
- Florida setting
I really enjoyed this story, and I mostly didn't even mind that it was only single POV. The narrator did a fantastic job capturing the rich complexities of these characters and plot. I highly recommend this book!
Thank you to Macmillan Audio for gifting me with an ALC to review! All opinions are my own.
Ok audio first . I love how the narrator did for the voices. The tone and changes goes very well with the book. Definitely phenomenal performance. The book, the story is not what i would read normally but this one has something that makes it so good. I like the antagonizing of both characters. I like how the actual relationship develops , i really dislike the third act break up because i wanted to strangle the MMC Ben . But overall i enjoy and it was a fun read.

Juliana (35) & Ben (37) don’t get off on the right foot her first day on the job. She is back in the workforce due to her husband, Jason’s, untimely death. But as a single parent now her top priority are her two girls, so when the school calls she has no choice but to leave early and miss an important meeting with Ben. The next day she overhears him complaining about her and flash forward 2 years and she’s still mad.
Oh boy, the sexual tension was on point, which is to be expected with enemies to lovers. I liked that it was just a workplace romance and not a boss/employee type of situation. Juliana was a rock star of an employee. They share a bff, Asia, who also works with them. She's put in the middle sometimes, but she handles it well.
Regarding the dead hub ~ I do feel like the grief was handled well and I felt bad for her and the kids, obviously, but I was tired of hearing about him over and over and over again after a while. Ben was pretty great in that aspect and didn't mind her talking about him, so I liked that. He was pretty great all around and I do wish we had a few chapters with his POV.
Overall, this was mostly great for a debut, except for the 3rd act that I absolutely hated, but could also maybe see a teeny tiny bit, like pin prick size, of why it was done. Still could have gone without it, though. I probably could have rated this higher had it not been for it.
Narration notes:
She did great. She deepened her tone for the men almost convincingly.
Thank you SMP Romance and Macmillan Audio for my gifted copies. All opinions are my own.
I’ve seen good reviews for Let’s Call a Truce, but went in relatively blind other than knowing it was a workplace romance.
I know we see a lot of stories with single dads (and this had one too) but please bring on more single moms! My heart broke for Juliana so many times as she tried to survive single parenting and work after the death of her husband. She and Ben have a sort of meet cute when she starts at KMG that immediately sours when she overhears him complaining about not accommodating her daughters. Although still not a great comment, it made sense when you heard his side later on.
I loved how smitten Ben was for Juliana and his mow determined he was to give her time for them to be together.
There was more angst then I expected as Ben’s ex reappears after Juliana is ready to make things official. I understood why he tried to do what he did, but it only hurt Juliana and his daughter, Paris. I loved Paris and Sophie’s friendship and how close they were.
I loved Ben’s grand gesture at the end and how they merged their two families together. I couldn’t put this down and can’t wait for more from this author.
Charlotte North’s narration was perfect for Juliana!

Steamy workplace romance, second chances and forced proximity - this perfect blend of tropes make for a cute "slice of life" romance.
I listened to the audiobook, and typically, I prefer dual narration. However, the narrator did a fantastic job, and she really brought the story to life for me. Based on the audiobook alone, I definitely give her performance 4 stars, the actual story is more of a 3 star for me.
I really enjoyed the banter between these two, and they had genuine chemistry! I totally felt where both of them were coming from, and really liked the way the author portrayed their pasts and how it affected them within this steamy, a little bit messy relationship. My biggest complaint was the ending conflict. I hate the miscommunication trope so much, and quite frankly, I kind of predicted it and still didn't like the outcome. But the genuine chemistry and relationships between Ben, Juliana, and their kids really brought this home for me.
Many thanks to Netgalley & Macmillan Audio for sharing this cute romance audiobook review copy in exchange for my honest thoughts.
A decent, romantic, entertaining audiobook!
I enjoyed all of the characters in the story, they all fit well together. I did think we could have used a bit more brooding from Ben, maybe a little bit more pushback and not into Juliette so quickly, I think it would have been a 5 star read.
All in all, an entertaining audiobook with a great narrator. I listened at 1.75x and it worked perfectly!
This was a cute work-place,enemies to lovers romance but at times a bit messy. Julianna is a recent widow and a single mother to 2 just getting back into the workplace, Ben is a single father and one of Julianna co workers.
I really enjoyed watching there relationship unfold. However, I found Julianna to be a bit too stubborn for my liking.
The narrator for the most part was great. I did struggle how a bit during the narration on the spice scene. It just sounded so unatural and pulled me out of the book each time. I think because of this I would probably enjoyed the book more if I read it myself vs listening
3.75 stars.
Thanks to netgalley for the alc, all thoughts on this review are my own.
As someone who lives in Florida now and the MMC is basically a description of my husband (other than being ridiculously tall) and the FMC is basically a description of me…. This book hit pretty close to home.
While obviously I not dealing with grief as the main character is, it’s so easily to step into her life as a reader and understand.
You go from thinking how silly this little office enemy situation is to realizing she is desperately trying to keep herself safe.
That she is a woman surviving, not really living and this little fight is damn near the only thing keeping her going
The MMC is pretty much every green flag, until you see he is just as broken but in different ways
This is such a realistic romance it’s almost painful but it’s also beautiful. You see that second chances aren’t just a replacement, because the person they were doesn’t exist anymore. This is a new first love for the person they are now.
I have a few friends who have dealt with the loss of their spouses. From combat to cancer and god; do I hope for this for them one day.

Juliana and Ben met at work 2 years ago and have been competing to annoy the other ever since she overhears him speak about her leaving early for a family emergency. Ultimately their explosive attraction wins out.
I found Juliana to be way too stubborn to the point it became annoying. It was just a bit much. Besides that, I enjoyed the story!
