Take two follows Anne and her friends Theo and Nathaniel as their friendship turns into more after a series of threesomes.
I read a lot of erotica and spicy romances but this novella was just not for me. It is built up like Anne is into some really kinky things and then proceeds to deliver some of the most vanilla spice I have ever read. In the words of the author "you need to commit". Unfortunately neither the characters and hence the author did not. The MMCs try to act dominant but it just comes across very cringey and some of the lines made me physically recoil. Not something I personally would class as 'sexy'.
Furthermore there are some glaring grammatical issues and story issues that should have been picked up in editing. The flashbacks to past conversations felt very disjointed and random. It was never very clear when they were back in the present Vs us reading conversations from the past. Scenes would also just abruptly end without much conclusion. Some word choices were also pretty strange such as using 'restricted' instead of 'resisted' in regards to Anne wanting to suck her stomach in due to insecurities.
Unfortunately not for me.

This seemed to start right in the middle of a scene. I know this was a quick novella, but a little more time setting the scene wouldn't help. I also had no foundation for the throuple. It was ok.
With this book being a short story, I felt like it could have been a little bit longer with some background information and maybe even some sort of plot put into it. There was also several typos which I easily see. The sexy scenes were sexy but it was also lacking in any kind of depth.
Short, quick and sexy novella with no plot. Hearing that there was MFM i was so excited to read this. However, there were plenty of times i cringed at the sexual talk and just some of the things that was said made me laugh like were the men trying to be Doms?? I was a bit confused who was chatting with the grammatical and the spelling errors but what is with "You're a sweet fick, yeah?" or "You were made for us to fuck, yeah. You're ours"
short and spicy. part 1 was a bit confusing to read in 3rd person as it had flashbacks where it was hard to tell when it was going back to present- breaks in the page or italicizing would have been great. woman focused, got to the point with having a minor plot to keep it going. Also, in the beginning it talks about her taking off her overly expensive boots, but then a few pages later she is getting ready to go out in her converse... not sure if I read it wrong or if it was an inconstancy.
Take Two explores a threesome relationship between a female and two male friends. The concept in itself seems like it could have promise. The synopsis states that this has no “full length plot” and, unfortunately, the writing reflects that.
In part one, we discover that one of the friends has invited the others to have a threesome. However, the use of flashbacks is not clearly defined.
It took a while to Threesome and, when it finally happened, it was quite plain and boring. The synopsis stated that it was Hot and Steamy. But it was Bland and Repetitive. The sex was the same. It was just a change of scenery.
In terms of editing, there were several grammatical and spelling errors. It became confusing at points as to who was talking, or who they were looking at, especially toward the end.
I did get a few chuckles because of how immature and ‘college grad’ the writing was. For those that are new to the MFM format, or reading erotica in general, I would recommend this as a starting point.
Favorite line - “We want to date you… Like, for reals”
2 stars.
Take Two by Ava Colt follows three college students who take the leap from friends to lovers, but can they remain friends once they make that leap?
While plot depth isn’t always essential, the book’s execution is often muddled, making it hard to stay invested in the story, which is a shame as it has the potential to be a compelling exploration of friendship and romance, it’s just unfortunate that the execution falls short.
The handling of time shifts, especially in Part One, was confusing as there are moments that jump to different points in time without clear transitions back to the present. This lack of clarity disrupts the flow and makes the story hard to follow. Additionally, some scenes felt incomplete or lacking in detail. To borrow from the author’s own words, "you gotta make sure you commit," and unfortunately, it sometimes felt like this commitment was missing.
There were also several questionable word choices, which took me out of the story as I tried to decipher the intended meaning. Phrases like "She restricted the urge to suck in her stomach" instead of "resisted" should have been easily caught with more thorough editing. These errors created an unnecessary distraction, interrupting the immersion that good writing aims to provide.
The spice also didn’t quite deliver, feeling repetitive and lacking variety and intensity. Moreover, the characterisation of the main female character is inconsistent; she’s portrayed as both innocent and inexperienced in threesomes then suddenly aware of "the rules," making it hard to connect with her journey. However, as the story progresses, the writing does improve in consistency and clarity.
Take Two had potential, and in parts did make me chuckle but the editing oversights, lack of narrative cohesion, and mediocre spice kept it from fully delivering on its promise of a HEA.

1.5 ⭐ rounded up.
Buddy read this online with few friends as part of Newgalley November and I think its safe to say that the reason it gets 2 stars is due to the laughs I got from reading it with friends.
The male leads in the story read like the dark romance guys before they were sexy... or young guys in their 20 trying to sound sexy on tinder.
There were multiple times were I felt almost confused as how we ended up where we were. We went from talking about crying to his dick entering her wet pussy....
Thank you Netgalley for my advanced Reader copy.
Anne and her best friends, Theo and Nathaniel, find themselves in a hot, steamy New Adult standalone MFM story with an HEA. The tension grows as they cannot deny the sexual tension, and the story is perfect for fans of erotic MFM romance with new adult characters.
The first thing I noticed was that there are a few grammatical and punctuation errors. Next, this story felt very “vanilla,” and had lots of talk about doing things and less actually doing the things. Honestly, this wasn’t super spicy, but had a little bit of steam. The conversations felt like Tinder conversations between people in their early 20s, which I guess is the age range of these characters, so it’s fitting. Like, the MMCs were trying to be dominant daddies, but it just sounded cringey. It also felt like the author was trying to give some plot at times for a full-length novel, but scenes would end rather abruptly (like the first part).
Thank you to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for the opportunity to read an Advanced Reader’s Copy (ARC) in exchange for my honest opinion.
Take Two delivers a perfectly spicy, quick read with all the heat promised by its synopsis and just enough plot to keep things moving. The scenes are well-crafted, and the descriptions are both vivid and imaginative—a fun escape when you're looking for something steamy and straightforward.
This was a short, spicy novella about three friends who attend college together and eventually form a throuple. Anne has a crush on her two friends, Nathaniel and Theo. Anne is unaware that Nathaniel and Theo have fantasized about being with her.
The story is told in third person which isn't my favorite, but the writing was ok. The story was fast-paced; however, this is a very short novella. Honestly, I think this could have been a great novel. Be aware that there is little plot which the author has made clear.
This was short and simple, and as advertised, mostly spice and a little bit of plot. An easy and fast read, that I was able to read in one sitting.
Thank you NetGalley and publisher for the ARC!
Even tho it says in the disclaimer: "If you're looking for a full-length plot, this is not the book for you."
That doesn't mean that it's a book without beautifully written sentences. I especially thought the talk about what other people might think about someone's sexual preferences was written in a gorgeous way. A brief story that makes you long for more.
I enjoyed this book. It’s exactly as described, little plot but has sexy MFM scenes. It was a quick read. I would read more from this author!
Exactly what it says on the tin. This is quick and dirty and if that is what you are looking for you will enjoy this. There is very little plot.
Why choose between your best friends when you can have them both?
We follow three characters navigating the end of school and what will they do next.
This is a short novella full of spice and how a threesome between friends can make a stronger connection binding them, not just in friendship but in something more intimate.
Colt writes three characters from very different backgrounds and how their differences do not matter, its about how they feel towards one another that counts.
This was a great novella, but like all novellas you will always want more.
I enjoyed this short story. I do wish it was formatted a little different as some of the time skips were a little hard to follow but overall I really enjoyed.
Thank you, NetGalley for this arc for my honest review!

If you are looking for a book with a plot, this is not the book for you! This is a short spicy novella so if that is what you are looking for then you are in the right place. In this novella, we meet Anne, Nathaniel and Theo. They are three friends and Nathaniel and Theo have been fantasizing about sharing their best friend Anne for a while. The plot was a little heavier than I expected to read but overall it wasn't too much of a big deal for me. I would say the one negative about this book was that it is written in 3rd person and I personally don't enjoy books with 3rd person in it.
Well, I simply could not get into this one. It didn’t really have a story and just jumped right into it. I need a little more substance in my stories even when they are novella length. If you don’t, this might be the right story for you.
This was so deliciously perfect! I'm 1000% keeping this in my kindle library for when slow burns are just taking too long. It gets right to the point, the storyline behind the spice is perfectly sweet. You need to add this to your tbr. It's a quick read and definitely worth it. I need more from Ava Colt ASAP.
