The tropes in this book are my favorite. However it did feel like there were some plot loopholes in there.

The relationship was developed nicely.

Grumpy, dark haired, tenured professor ✔️
Feisty, outspoken, genius student ✔️

This book is short, sweet, SMUTTY and to the POINT! Exactly what you want in a taboo novella.
The book starts out with Kiernan’s first day of early enrollment to college when she runs in to the grumpy, mean to everyone, professor. They have a love-to-hate- you connection right off the bat and have the STEAMIEST chemistry!!

5 stars! The book did what it needed to do and I had a great time reading it.

The 17 (h) and near 40 (H) arc was unnecessary and did nothing to advance the plot, maybe except make the H question his ethics and ours.

Overall the book delivered exactly what was in the description of the book. Extra spicy scenes and no repetition. Perfect as a stress reliever in November for a student. Or is it just me? XD

Would it make me a whore if I rated it 5 stars?? Listen I need you to put your rose colored glasses on before reading. They are instantly obsessed with each other and they do be going to pound town.. I wanted more tension but what can you do. It’s smutty and so much fun. Where were these hot professors when I was in school

Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for the ARC of Tenure, in exchange for an honest review.

"Where do I even begin with 'Tenure' by Violet Pearce? This book has got everything you could ask for – steamy moments, sharp and clever conversations, and enough tension to keep you glued to the pages. The connection between the two main characters is so electric that you can practically feel the sparks flying off the book. I loved how quickly their romance blossomed – it's fast and adorable, instantly making you cheer for them. And let me tell you, those steamy scenes are not for the faint of heart.

James, one of the main characters, is the perfect book boyfriend material. He's so kind-hearted and compassionate, and you can't help but fall head over heels for him, just like the main character does. Speaking of her, Kiernan is an absolute riot with her sassy and confident attitude. She's not afraid to give James a run for his money, and it's pure entertainment to watch their interactions.
If you like your books hot and steamy, this one is for you.
4 Stars!

I was so excited to get an eARC of this book and it did not disappoint! It's fast-paced, very spicy and the banter between the main characters is fantastic. It IS taboo age-gap erotica with teacher-student and this won't appeal to every reader, but if that's your thing, you'll definitely love it.

It's fast burn and once you start, you're not going to want to put it down. I finished it in like a day. It's plot-light but there is plot and it's very well written. If you want a steamy passionate read, here you go!

I don't even know if I want to say how spicy this book. It's there and lets add an older MMC in James who has certain tastes in the bedroom. The lust between James and Kiernan gets to the point within the first pages or so. Kiernan is smart and walks into her first ever college class and talks back to her professor, what? He is an a-hole type of professor and she is the bratty student. The age gap is there and I do enjoy age gapes but come on! She is underage. She said she was in high school, that didn't stop him. I mean he did but until the next time he saw her. She did say stop and he kept going with a kiss. He knew she was in high school and yet continued to do things with her and then a little too late on asking how old she was. To me this whole thing would have had a better rating if the age was a bit older and not someone in high school with a college professor. It is a novella so I understand the pace of the story but just no. I'd like to read about to consenting adults.

Spicy, male female, dual point of view, taboo, contemporary romance. VERY smutty quick read. This is an age gap professor (almost 40) student (17) instalust with light kink. Well written - especially for plot light erotica. I would definitely read more by this author.

Tenure is everything you want in a taboo novella: it is fast, sexy, and smart as hell. When I beta read this, I made my husband wait an extra hour before we had dinner so I could finish it, I could. Not. Stop. I can’t wait to get this physical copy on my shelf

This book had me giggling and screaming! The build up between James and Kiernan was tension filled and the spicy scenes that followed had me swooning. James is the perfect broody & dominating MMC.

TENURE feels like a dirty little secret that I am not ashamed to have read.

A perfect one day read that I was really able to sink into.

There were a few grammatical issues in the book that took me out of the scene.

Professor James McGrath damn... he's was everything and more. I loved Kiernan she had all the sass.

The chemistry between them was so damn good, the story was fast-paced and I didn't want to put it down for a single minute

I went into this ARC almost completely blind and it was a very spicy pleasant surprise. Professor James is HOT. He’s cranky and sassy, and I would sit through him berating me for not immediately grasping mathematical concepts just to bask in his presence. There were some tropes I’m not a fan of—the FMC being 17 and the age gap relationship between a teen and an adult—but I feel that Pearce does well to address them. James never tries to hide what they’re doing and their connection and attraction is more than just physical. I especially enjoyed their banter and the way Kiernan pushed his buttons. Overall, I really liked this novella. It was a fun quick read that could easily be read in one sitting. I look forward to reading whatever Violet writes next.

ARC Review: TENURE - Violet Pearce

4.5/5 ⭐️ and 5/5 🌶️🔥
Are you looking for a Henry Cavill lookalike math professor who has his eyes set on a mathematical prodigy student?

Here ya go!!

I’m extremely particular when it comes to age gaps, especially teenagers and virgin FMCs. Violet wrote Kieran to be a feisty, sassmaster, bratty FMC with a brain to the tenured, arrogant, not-to-be challenged alphahole MMC, James. Also known as Daddy. The banter between the two makes you giggle while the spice makes you clinch your thighs 👀 Best way to describe this is *math erotica*. Who knew it was a thing?!

I’m a slut for smut and this one hit the nail on the head. Fast, paced easy read 😎🥵 10/10 good time.

Available tomorrow: November 14.

I always feel the best sign of a successful book is how fast you get through it because you're just having a great time with the story; and Tenure I zipped through at pace. A "novella" at around 200 pages long; I consumed this book in one sitting with a minor break midway.

I've read quite a bit of dark romance recently which I don't find has lived up to the hype - a lot substituting plot for shock value. This book I would probably describe as taboo rather than dark, along the lines of Penelope Douglas. It was fantastic, it had great pace throughout and was well structured.

I'm always surprised when I really enjoy a novella because there is a worry the plot and the characters may be underdeveloped; but the author shows skill in swiftly building a relationship between reader and the main characters. I found myself being drawn to both characters within pages of the start, and willing them to get together and give in to their undoubtably electric connection.

Of course the book has a fair bit of spice, but it isn't overdone, or unnecessary, and matches the plot. The book has tropes including a morally greyish hot nerd "daddy" MMC, Who did this to you? and a substantial age gap.

More than the spice, the story is incredibly romantic, sharing first love for both main characters. It also contains a level of humour I wasn't expecting, which really helped solidify the characters bond.

I really hope this book gets the credit it deserves in the book community when it is released.

This was a good story and if you're someone who enjoys a fast-paced relationship/action this is it. This couple moves quickly and there is no end to their sexual adventures.

The age gap is known and makes this relationship even more exciting and the tension is very much explored. But it is made easy as they are instantly exploring the relationship. There is no tug or pull-off if they even should be dating they just dove in. From my perspective, I hate to read The Tug a War and enjoy that it wasn’t in this story.

I very much enjoyed the banter between the characters in the story. The writer knows how to draw the reader in and keep them hooked.

An interesting read, this couple go from zero to sixty in a matter of days. Professor James McGrath is 40 and his newest star student, Kiernan Baker is a mere 17 but that doesn't stop them from having as much sex as possible. Which is most of this novella. I'm amazed they never got caught since James can't seem to leave Kiernan alone and devours her at every turn of the page. It doesn't matter where they are, he's getting his fix.

Kiernan enjoys it, though, so they are seemingly made for one another since it's also their mutual love of math that truly drew them to one another. That and her smart mouth which seems to challenge James' gruff ways every moment they are together.

The writing is good enough but the story is kind of weak as their age gap is just a bit too much for my liking and it's literally a sex romp from beginning to end.

If you're looking for a shorter dirty read, grab this one. But don't count on their being any real substance or storyline.

2.5 stars.

Title: Tenure
Author: Violet Pearce
Rating: ★★★★ (4/5)

Review:
In Tenure, Violet Pearce weaves a provocative story that dives deep into the complexities of an age-gap relationship between a teacher and student. The novel doesn't shy away from exploring the delicate balance of power, attraction, and ethics in such a dynamic, but it handles the subject matter with great care, sensitivity, and insight.

The protagonist, James, is a seasoned educator who brings a wealth of life experience, while Kiernana the student, is just beginning to come into her own. Their connection and the tension between their growing attraction and the moral and social boundaries they must navigate is palpable, and the author skillfully captures the emotional and intellectual conflicts that arise in such a relationship.

What truly sets this book apart is its commitment to character development. Both leads are well-rounded and multi-dimensional, making their struggles and desires feel real and relatable. The power dynamics at play are not romanticized, and the book doesn’t sugarcoat the challenges that come with such a relationship. Instead, it invites the reader to reflect on themes of consent, personal growth, and the lines between mentorship and something more.

There's nothing I love more than a good age gap romance. This had the potential of being everything. Tabboo student and teacher. Grumpy AF MMC. Chili peppers EVERYWHERE. Witty Banter! A hardshelled FMC.

But... to me a good taboo age gap requires three things...

1. A connection so strong that you have to fight yourself to hold back.
2. Stakes so high that you spend at least ten chapters dwelling over the consequences. TENSION!
3. Passion that tips the scales because what's the point of losing everything if the person you're potentially losing it for hasn't altered your brain chemistry and entwined themselves into your DNA, despite your attempts to keep it from happening.

In the case of Tenure though, it fell short.

There was no angst. No torment. No 'we shouldn't be doing this, but I can't help myself'. Within the first five chapters he had his tongue in her mouth, his hand up her skirt and pinned against the shower wall. Which okay, all power to you professor. You found someone who didn't piss you off by simply breathing in your direction, but despite how obsessed he was with her brain and how worked up he got watching her solve complex math problems, the chemistry/spark really wasn't there for me. Where was the yearning and the hesitation of wanting someone you shouldn't be wanting????

I read this book in one sitting. I'm not going to lie though-- I found myself skimming towards the end. I did not connect with these characters, which really bummed me out. I was over the moon when I realized my first approved Netgalley ARC copy was one of my all-time favorite tropes & I truly hope one day I can pick up another Violet Pearce story and fall absolutely in love with every word!

I received the ARC for Tenure yesterday and could not put it down once I started it! This novella is fast paced, full of witty banter, and loaded with spice! Kiernan and James’ relationship is 0 to 100mph is 0.5 seconds and I was here for it! If you like a good forbidden/age gap romance with a slight BDSM situation and the guy falls first this one may be for you!

The only real issue I had with the story was the FMC was a minor. I feel it may have flowed a little better if she had been a bit older.

Thanks for the chance to read Tenure!
