Absolutely love this book.
MMC was unapologetically obsessed and I love their banters.
Spice chemistry was fun and they were definitely made for each other. 3.5 chili

Professor James McGrath damn... he's was everything and more. I loved Kiernan she had all the sass.

The chemistry between them was so damn good, the story was fast-paced and I didn't want to put it down for a single minute

I went into this ARC almost completely blind and it was a very spicy pleasant surprise. Professor James is HOT. He’s cranky and sassy, and I would sit through him berating me for not immediately grasping mathematical concepts just to bask in his presence. There were some tropes I’m not a fan of—the FMC being 17 and the age gap relationship between a teen and an adult—but I feel that Pearce does well to address them. James never tries to hide what they’re doing and their connection and attraction is more than just physical. I especially enjoyed their banter and the way Kiernan pushed his buttons. Overall, I really liked this novella. It was a fun quick read that could easily be read in one sitting. I look forward to reading whatever Violet writes next.

ARC Review: TENURE - Violet Pearce

4.5/5 ⭐️ and 5/5 🌶️🔥
Are you looking for a Henry Cavill lookalike math professor who has his eyes set on a mathematical prodigy student?

Here ya go!!

I’m extremely particular when it comes to age gaps, especially teenagers and virgin FMCs. Violet wrote Kieran to be a feisty, sassmaster, bratty FMC with a brain to the tenured, arrogant, not-to-be challenged alphahole MMC, James. Also known as Daddy. The banter between the two makes you giggle while the spice makes you clinch your thighs 👀 Best way to describe this is *math erotica*. Who knew it was a thing?!

I’m a slut for smut and this one hit the nail on the head. Fast, paced easy read 😎🥵 10/10 good time.

Available tomorrow: November 14.

I always feel the best sign of a successful book is how fast you get through it because you're just having a great time with the story; and Tenure I zipped through at pace. A "novella" at around 200 pages long; I consumed this book in one sitting with a minor break midway.

I've read quite a bit of dark romance recently which I don't find has lived up to the hype - a lot substituting plot for shock value. This book I would probably describe as taboo rather than dark, along the lines of Penelope Douglas. It was fantastic, it had great pace throughout and was well structured.

I'm always surprised when I really enjoy a novella because there is a worry the plot and the characters may be underdeveloped; but the author shows skill in swiftly building a relationship between reader and the main characters. I found myself being drawn to both characters within pages of the start, and willing them to get together and give in to their undoubtably electric connection.

Of course the book has a fair bit of spice, but it isn't overdone, or unnecessary, and matches the plot. The book has tropes including a morally greyish hot nerd "daddy" MMC, Who did this to you? and a substantial age gap.

More than the spice, the story is incredibly romantic, sharing first love for both main characters. It also contains a level of humour I wasn't expecting, which really helped solidify the characters bond.

I really hope this book gets the credit it deserves in the book community when it is released.

This was a good story and if you're someone who enjoys a fast-paced relationship/action this is it. This couple moves quickly and there is no end to their sexual adventures.

The age gap is known and makes this relationship even more exciting and the tension is very much explored. But it is made easy as they are instantly exploring the relationship. There is no tug or pull-off if they even should be dating they just dove in. From my perspective, I hate to read The Tug a War and enjoy that it wasn’t in this story.

I very much enjoyed the banter between the characters in the story. The writer knows how to draw the reader in and keep them hooked.

An interesting read, this couple go from zero to sixty in a matter of days. Professor James McGrath is 40 and his newest star student, Kiernan Baker is a mere 17 but that doesn't stop them from having as much sex as possible. Which is most of this novella. I'm amazed they never got caught since James can't seem to leave Kiernan alone and devours her at every turn of the page. It doesn't matter where they are, he's getting his fix.

Kiernan enjoys it, though, so they are seemingly made for one another since it's also their mutual love of math that truly drew them to one another. That and her smart mouth which seems to challenge James' gruff ways every moment they are together.

The writing is good enough but the story is kind of weak as their age gap is just a bit too much for my liking and it's literally a sex romp from beginning to end.

If you're looking for a shorter dirty read, grab this one. But don't count on their being any real substance or storyline.

2.5 stars.

Title: Tenure
Author: Violet Pearce
Rating: ★★★★ (4/5)

Review:
In Tenure, Violet Pearce weaves a provocative story that dives deep into the complexities of an age-gap relationship between a teacher and student. The novel doesn't shy away from exploring the delicate balance of power, attraction, and ethics in such a dynamic, but it handles the subject matter with great care, sensitivity, and insight.

The protagonist, James, is a seasoned educator who brings a wealth of life experience, while Kiernana the student, is just beginning to come into her own. Their connection and the tension between their growing attraction and the moral and social boundaries they must navigate is palpable, and the author skillfully captures the emotional and intellectual conflicts that arise in such a relationship.

What truly sets this book apart is its commitment to character development. Both leads are well-rounded and multi-dimensional, making their struggles and desires feel real and relatable. The power dynamics at play are not romanticized, and the book doesn’t sugarcoat the challenges that come with such a relationship. Instead, it invites the reader to reflect on themes of consent, personal growth, and the lines between mentorship and something more.

There's nothing I love more than a good age gap romance. This had the potential of being everything. Tabboo student and teacher. Grumpy AF MMC. Chili peppers EVERYWHERE. Witty Banter! A hardshelled FMC.

But... to me a good taboo age gap requires three things...

1. A connection so strong that you have to fight yourself to hold back.
2. Stakes so high that you spend at least ten chapters dwelling over the consequences. TENSION!
3. Passion that tips the scales because what's the point of losing everything if the person you're potentially losing it for hasn't altered your brain chemistry and entwined themselves into your DNA, despite your attempts to keep it from happening.

In the case of Tenure though, it fell short.

There was no angst. No torment. No 'we shouldn't be doing this, but I can't help myself'. Within the first five chapters he had his tongue in her mouth, his hand up her skirt and pinned against the shower wall. Which okay, all power to you professor. You found someone who didn't piss you off by simply breathing in your direction, but despite how obsessed he was with her brain and how worked up he got watching her solve complex math problems, the chemistry/spark really wasn't there for me. Where was the yearning and the hesitation of wanting someone you shouldn't be wanting????

I read this book in one sitting. I'm not going to lie though-- I found myself skimming towards the end. I did not connect with these characters, which really bummed me out. I was over the moon when I realized my first approved Netgalley ARC copy was one of my all-time favorite tropes & I truly hope one day I can pick up another Violet Pearce story and fall absolutely in love with every word!

I received the ARC for Tenure yesterday and could not put it down once I started it! This novella is fast paced, full of witty banter, and loaded with spice! Kiernan and James’ relationship is 0 to 100mph is 0.5 seconds and I was here for it! If you like a good forbidden/age gap romance with a slight BDSM situation and the guy falls first this one may be for you!

The only real issue I had with the story was the FMC was a minor. I feel it may have flowed a little better if she had been a bit older.

Thanks for the chance to read Tenure!

This novella was just that, a really well written short story that kept you engaged, had witty characters that felt real and plenty of spice to keep you saying: just one more chapter!

I devoured this novella much like the MMC devours the FMC 🤣 with a smile on my face and couldn’t wait to read more. Even though it’s a short story there is enough backstory to get a feel for the characters personalities and their current place in life. It is a mega age-gap trope so that is something to keep in mind but I was ok with it because of the direction the story went. It bordered on my line so please be aware for those who have hard fast triggers with this subject.

The banter between the characters was prime time, I loved that the FMC gave as good as she got. She wasnt the typical full little submissive, she pushed back and gave him hell. And as any good MMC does, he ate her up…I mean ate it up. ::cough cough::

I highly recommend this book if you want a quick spicy 🌶️ story and age-gap romances are in your wheelhouse.

Good Lord!
This was spicy. It was great, my only gripe was how much the age gap was; sometimes I felt like I shouldn't be reading it, like it felt wrong.

Thank you, to Netgalley and the author for providing me the ARC.

One of the best forewords I’ve read in a while. It’s sexy, simple, low on plot and high on spice. A 17 years old and a nearly 40 year old professor. The attraction is thee right out of the gate. Her sharp tongue, his possessiveness and need to be with her. It’s taboo and it’s fun!

Even though I wasn't reading this for the plot, the story flowed well and wasn't choppy. It made sense and wasn't completely out of left field. The characters seemed real and I liked to hear their inner thoughts about how wrong it was but also how they both couldn't stay away.

If you are looking for a big plot, this is not your book. This was a sunny vacation to get away from real life for a minute and just enjoy!

I’m struggling with the direction to take this review in. On one hand, it was really well written, I loved the banter between the two leads, and it was smoking hot. On the other hand, it felt like the taboo was included just to be taboo, for shock value. It’s one of those books you read kind of squinting and grinding your teeth. Not in a pearl clutching way. Trust me, that’s far from my issue. Pearls are safe. Realistically, I would have enjoyed this book equally (maybe more), if her age and educational situation hadn’t been at the forefront. All the situations could have played out exactly the same, but without the reminder of the “taboo-ness” every other page and the suspension of reality that everyone is just magically ok with it. There was no drama surrounding it, no discovery, no consequences. It felt off to me in a way. But did I enjoy it? Yes. Yes I did.

“You have 3 minutes to get somewhere private. And you will pick up the fucking phone, Kiernan.”

If you’re looking for a fast-paced, spicy read where the focus is pure heat, Tenure is it! I devoured this in just a a couple hours because I couldn’t stop. James is the classic domineering alphahole, and the tension and banter between him and Kiernan? On point. Their back-and-forth was great, and James’s “Daddy” vibe is definitely a mood.

Only downside? The FMC was on the young side for my taste. I love an older MMC, but young FMCs aren’t my fave, so I just aged her up in my head to make it work. Personal preference, though—it didn’t take away from the fun!

Daddy kink lovers, you’ll want to add this to your list!

Tropes:

🍎 Mega Age-Gap
🍎 Virgin FMC
🍎 Alphahole
🍎 He is just as attracted to her brain as he is to her body
🍎 Ch0king
🍎 F!sting
🍎 Toys
🍎 She comes in class?!
🍎 Bathroom scenes you’ll NEVER forget
🍎 “Who did this to you?”
🍎 Mine.

Thank you Violet Pearce and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review⭐️

A spicy short read with insufferable characters. Age gap was excessive for shock value.

I ate this book, so fast in less than 2 hours. I was so engaged and Miss Pearce did not joke with the spicy scenes in this book.✨ Only thing I hate is that this book wasn’t a little bit longer but other than that, loved this debut novel, love the fact that got me engaged since the beginning, and also the fact that Kieran was not the typical submissive with no attitude kinda girl, on the contrary the girl was fierce and tenacious.
Loved it, looking forward for more from Miss Pearce 🌶️🖤

I saw this book on NetGalley and I immediately fell in love with the cover!!

FOR ALL YOU GIRLIES OUT THERE THAT EVER HAD A CRUSH ON THEIR TEACHER, THIS IS FOR YOU!!!

The book follows James, who is a tenured college teacher. Oh and he's also super grumpy and hates most of his students. Except for Keirnan, who is a very talented student. With a mouth she can't seem to keep shut. Because she snaps at him once and the rest is history.

Here's a quote that had me rolling on the floor:
"The way her back arched had my dick weeping. She bent backwards so gracefully, like a willow tree I wanted to climb. Fuck. Quit math and become a poet."

This book is the definition of all smut and some plot. And I loved it.😏

This was wild. This professor/student relationship was a little more taboo than what I’m used to reading, and it was pretty hot to be honest. Since this was a novella, I didn’t feel like we needed a lot of character development. I’m just here for the smut and Violet Pearce delivered.

This book was not life changing, but it was EXACTLY what I wanted when I picked it up. It was fast paced, spicy as heck, and well written. This was the perfect dirty, forbidden palate cleanser I needed to take a break from the heavy books I've been reading.

This book is about Kiernan, a high school student who starts taking an advanced college math course taught by James. They meet with James assuming she's just another student who knows nothing, but sparks fly when he realizes just how smart she is.

Kiernan is badass and knows how to handle herself while James is such a grump. Overall I would recommend this book if you're into it.

Read if you like:
*Student/Teacher
*spice, spice and more spice
*Age Gap
*Strong MFC
*MMC who hates everyone but her

Favorite Character: James. Can we be surprised that I once again choose the guy who is gone for his girl and can't hide it?

Favorite quote: "James McGrath, world's biggest dick-literally and figuratively- is standing in the middle of his living room in FULL Winnie the Pooh, just so I won't get cold."-Kiernan
