Thank you to NetGalley, MacMillan Audio, and most especially to the ever-prolific Brandon Sanderson for this eAudioARC of the first 20% of Wind and Truth.
To say my expectations were high would be a gross mischaracterization of how I went into this extended excerpt. At the conclusion of Rhythm of War, Roshar is set up for an showdown between forces, the raw power of which neither side fully comprehends; all while our protagonists are still reeling from the events of the past few days.
With the urgency at hand, would have been easy for Mr. Sanderson to ignore the gravitas of what's come before and jump straight into the breakneck action or to spend so much screen time digesting Rhythm of War as to create a ponderous and dragging narrative. Yet here he threads the needle expertly to not only give readers the opportunity to reconnect with and reestablish ourselves with the characters & the world, but to up the proverbial ante significantly and both fulfill dozens of promises didn't expect to bear fruit until the back half of the series while simultaneously exploding our understanding of the Cosmere and giving us countless new questions to ponder.
I regret only that the excerpt stopped when it did and that now I find myself needing to wait another 45 days before I can continue the Journey.
If you're a fan of the Cosmere, you won't be disappointed!
