This book was informative and insightful info dementia and topics surrounding it. It was scientific but also easy to understand by a layperson. It highlighted important questions surrounding the topic and gave me a lot to think about as someone who has loved ones with dementia and is at risk of it someday as well.
An extremely informative book on dementia. I found it helpful, answering questions I have always been curious about and providing information for all of us with aging parents and possibly knowing someone with this terrible disease.
Thank you, #NetGalley and #HighBridgeAudio, for this ARC.
Before Dementia answers some 20 questions that aging adults and caregivers need to consider. It addresses diagnosis, current research and treatment options, and strategies for prevention. One topic new to me is the problematic issue of consent. Consider the not-altogether-there patient who needs assistance showering but doesn’t understand why someone is forcing her to undress, or the spouse who wants to be intimate. It’s a heartbreaking disease that requires us to think about these things. The author, an Australian physician, does a good job discussing them with sensitivity and the audiobook is well narrated.
My thanks to the author, publisher, producer, and #NetGalley for early access to the audiobook for review purposes. Publication date: Oct 29, 2024.
