This is an outstanding book. The writing is great, the audiobook is well produced, the story is fascinating and you get just enough of the personality of the author.

I have read other nonfiction books by this author and was delighted to find that he had written on such an important topic as the November 13, 2015 terrorist attacks in Paris. The trial concerning the events of that day received little coverage in the US. Carrere became an observer on most days of this trial which went on for months. He highlights many of the personalities of those who testified and met with several of them outside the courtroom. He is able to convey many of the revelations I his brilliant and incisive manner.

Thanks to NetGalley and Brilliance Audio for the Audio ARC!

Going into this, I knew very little about the terrorist attacks in Paris of Friday, Nov 13th, 2015. And if you're simply looking for an account of the horrific actions of that day, this is not the book you're looking for. This book is a mix of court proceedings, trial transcripts, personal reflections, and various other musings about the atrocities of that day from one of France's top print journalists. I found it to be very enlightening, very fast-moving and readable, and definitely an interesting look into the French justice system.

Wow. Carrere is such a unique, caring writer. This is my favorite of his books. The reader was excellent, but I regret not reading a physical copy. Not being French and immersed in the tragedy of the event or trial, I had trouble following some of the individuals covered, particularly the defendants. I normally hate when audiobooks have companion PDFs, but this could be an appropriate book to provide a list of individuals.
