I always love a good enemies to lovers romcom and this one was just what I needed. I have loved Lexi and Heath for quite some time and enjoyed seeing their increased banter in The Love Fix!
I've only read a couple of Jill Shalvis books, but they seem to be reliably entertaining, if not groundbreaking, and this is no exception. The story proceeds in a workmanlike fashion, although I could have done without the odd interlude where the main character, against all the good sense she has previously exhibited, confronts a gangster. Enjoyable, pleasant, and sometimes that's just what you want.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
The Love Fix by Jill Shalvis aims to deliver a heartfelt story, but it didn’t quite hit the mark for me. While there were some funny and touching moments, I struggled with how the characters treated Lexi. It often felt like her pain was dismissed too easily, making it hard to connect with the story on an emotional level.
The pacing was fine, but the plot felt predictable, and many conflicts resolved far too neatly to feel realistic. This took away some of the stakes, leaving the story feeling somewhat superficial despite its emotional themes
The Love Fix by Jill Shalvis is a slow-burn light-hearted romance with some great funny moments and enjoyable side characters. The story follows Lexi who is struggling after losing her job and is now having to navigate her feelings associated with the loss of her mother. When she returns to her childhood home she has to work with her sister Ashely and childhood nemesis Heath to honor her late mother's last wishes.
I felt the pacing of the story was good, there was an intriguing storyline and things that were being revealed to us as the story was being told. We got to see the growth of the characters as they worked through their issues. The chemistry between Lexi and Heath was fun to read as they had great banter. Grandpa Gus was probably my favorite side character, he had me cracking up a few times.
There was a little romance in the book, but it was mostly closed-door.
Lexi is in Sunrise Cove and whether it she wants to be there or not she has unfinished business. Unfinished business with Daisy, her sister and the attractive next door neighbor that she can't seem to get away from fast enough.
I really enjoyed the pacing of this book, I thought the development of the three main characters was perfect. They all had their real life problems that seemed to be dealt with in very real life ways. I really appreciated the sarcastic and funny one liners throughout the books. I also really enjoyed the strong female leads intertwined with damsel in distress moments as well. Far too often stories have female leads depend on male leads whereas in this story the male lead was used for support.
Loved this read, loved the setting and descriptions of Lake Tahoe while I'm looking out in the gloomy Midwest.
Thank you NetGalley for this digital ARC!
Another wonderful read by Jill shalvis!! She always makes you want to continue reading to find out more. Another five star read
Coming home to face the hurts from her past finds Lexi face to face with the demons she never thought she would overcome. Throw in her flighty sister Ashley and her arch nemesis Heath and you have a story filled with redemption, understanding and in the end love. A great addition to the series.
Lexi is back in Sunrise Cove a year after her mother’s death at the request of her younger stepsister. Lexi and Ashley have a strained relationship, mostly due to the fact that they experienced very different Daisy’s. With Lexi back in Sunrise Cove Ashley is able to uncover a lot about why Lexi has avoided her hometown like the plague. On top of being back home there’s also the issue of Heath, Lexi’s childhood frenemie who she’s secretly crushed on forever. Now he’s living next door to her for 6 weeks and ignoring their sparks seems impossible. But Lexi has a life back east. Will 6 weeks in Sunrise Cove be enough to convince her to stay? Or will Lexi get the hell out of dodge as soon as her time is up?
Jill has a knack for writing cozy romances. This book along with her others feels like coming home. There’s always such a strong family connection on top of the romance which I love. Heath and Lexi’s inability to communicate did frustrate me, but their back stories did justify it. If you like romances with family drama, childhood wounds, and cozy small-town vibes this one’s for you!
Thanks netgalley and the publisher for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
The Love Fix by Jill Shalvis. Slower paced romance and family relationship story. A good edition to the Sunrise Cove series but not a favorite.
Thank you to the author, Avon and Harper Voyager and NetGalley for the opportunity to preview the book.
Thank you NetGalley, for the an advance copy of this book! I wish I loved it but….it was T E R R I B L E. The intrigue the author is trying to make wiht the sister squad and the brothers doesn’t hit for me - I’ve never met a guy that emotionally aware and it seems very forced. Name a team of men that name their emotions and feelings openly at every turn, I’ll wait.
Lexi? She’s just a hot ass girl who feels sorry for herself because she was wrongfully fired from her job AND SLEEPING WITH HER SUPERVISOR OKAY? The “crackling air” that often occurs between heath and Lexi is far from steamy and electric. Also..there are a lot of characters.
PROS:
the author definitely kept the plot tight and there weren’t TOO many twists.
It was short.
CONS:
It wasn’t good.
Sorry, Jill. I wanted to like it, I swear.
The Love Fix by Jill Shalvis is a charming and light-hearted romance with plenty of warmth and humor. The story follows Lexi a woman who is navigating her way through the loss of her job and mother. She is has not been back to Sunrise Cove since she was child. Together her and her stepsister, Ashley work together to carryout her late mother’s wishes.
The pacing was good, and there were some truly funny and touching moments throughout the book. I did find myself getting a little frustrated with the lack of consideration for Lexi. The characters did really care for Lexi but it was clear Lexi had been hurt by her mother. Ashley and Heath really wanted Lexi to heal but didn’t really understand the depth of her hurt.
That said, there were moments when the plot felt a bit predictable, and some of the conflicts felt resolved a little too easily. Still, it’s a solid read for anyone looking for a sweet romance with hints of found family.
Overall, The Love Fix is a quick, enjoyable book that really highlights the importance of found family.
Jill Shalvis is a must read author for me. Her latest book, The Love Fix, was a heartwarming read, just as I expected.
Thanks to NetGalley and Avon for the opportunity to read The Love Fix by Jill Shalvis. This author is on my auto-read read list and never disappoints!
I adore Jill Shalvis and have been reading her books for years!
This book does not disappoint. The story, the characters (loved Grandpa Gus & Mayhem), the banter had me laughing and crying. Typical of Jill's books, you feel good reading along and she always gives her readers the best HEA.
Great story. Three main characters. Two almost sisters and a love interest. Good plot, lots of tension between all three. Easy read. Great ending.
Did I immediately read this book as soon as possible when I received the arc a few months ago? Yes, I did. I literally will drop everything so I can read Jill Shalvis upcoming releases. I am obsessed with Jill Shalvis books. I can never read a bad book from her. Thankfully enough, The Love Fix was no different. I literally love it so much.
Let's talk about why I love this book so much:
1. I love reading about the rivals-to lovers trope in romance books. It gives an extra tension whenever former rivals see each other again and still remember why they dislike each other. It just creates the perfect tension and banter between characters.
2. The chemistry between the characters, Lexi and Heath, is just perfect. You already know that there is history between Lexi and Heath. And the constant banter between them builds their chemistry so much more.
3. The main character, Lexi, being her true self. I know some people don't like aloof or not emotional personalities since it's not approachable. And yet, it never affects Lexi as much as I would think it would. Lexi is just being her; nothing wrong with it.
4. The endless struggles between repairing sibling relationships. It's really true and relatable because sibling relationships can fracture and it takes time to repair them.
5.The endless emotional struggle for Lexi while she grieves for her mother. Lexi's relationship with her mother wasn't easy, especially when she passed away. It's hard to cope with unsolved feelings, especially when the relationship wasn't good in the first place.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Avon for providing me with this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I really enjoyed this story which is part romance, part healing family relationships. The dialogue was snarky and witty, the characters were very likeable, the family relationships were heartwarming without being sicky-sweet, and, of course, there's a satisfying HEA. And, oh yeah, an adorable dog named... wait for it... "Mayhem"!!!! LOL LOL
A smattering of profanity and some PG kissing. I'm loving how Shalvis has moved away from a lot of f-bombs and graphic sex scenes.
This is a story I will definitely read again.
Fun,fast, easy read. I enjoyed this cute, heartfelt story about, family, sisterhood, and love. thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC copy
Thanks for the ARC of the book!!
I enjoyed it thoroughly, it was a pretty basic rom com romance, but I do recommend for that sweet fix of something lovely :)
This wasn't my cup of tea. The men are self-aware and talk about their feelings. That just wasn't relatable. There were a lot of characters. The plot was okay and there wasn't many twists in this short novel.
