I haven't listened to an audiobook that feels like a warm hug in such a long time.
It did take a while to get thoroughly invested but once I was, I kinda didn't want the story to end - though, the ending did infact make me smile, so it was definitely worth it.
✨ Would 100% recommend as an audiobook.

Thank you to the author, publisher, and Net Galley for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. I enjoyed Lowcountry Lost. It is a tender, sweet story of second chance love, forgiveness and family. It had me laughing and crying. Even though is has the label Christian Fiction, it is not overly "preachy" but rather weaves the character's faith throughout the story. I feel Ms. Lowe created very real and relatable characters. If you need a feel good "Hallmark-esq" story, give this one a try. I enjoyed the audio book and the narrator.
I had not read or listened to any audiobooks from this author before this. The cover piqued my interest, so I then read the summary of the book and it sounded like something I would enjoy. I listen to audiobooks at work, and I end up listening to the same book several times over, so it is important to have a narrator with a pleasant voice. This narrator definitely ticked that box for me. The different characters were voiced very well. I would definitely listen to other books narrated by this actor. As I had mentioned, this was my first experience with this author. I was pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed this book. Possibly because I understood what the characters were experiencing because I have gone through the same kind of loss. I liked the author so much, that I have bought and started listening to another book. Thank you for allowing me to listen.
What a great audiobook! It had me laughing, as well as in tears! The story focuses on Avalee, a contractor who is leading the effort to restore an abandoned town. That forms the basis for all the subplots that occur around that setting. We get to hear about the details and challenges of such an undertaking, which is quite interesting and very easy to imagine from the narration. Underlying this story is the heartbreak that Avalee suffered several years ago, still eating at her to the point of insomnia. This is complicated by the fact that her ex-husband has been hired as an engineer for the project and she will have to interact with him daily. The supporting characters are fascinating: carpenter brothers who like to play pranks, a thieving dog who camps out in the chapel, a runaway teen who is eager to learn the trade from Avalee, even the whole staff at the tattoo/piercing/nail salon made me laugh.
This novel is rich with southern charm and multiple storylines. It's one of the best I"ve read/listened to this year! I hope there are more like it to come! Thank you to RBMedia and NetGalley for providing an advance review copy of this audiobook. My opinions are my own.
Avalee Lewis has been awarded a project in the Low country of South Carolina to rebuild and revitalize a ghost town however the structural engineer who presents ends up being her ex- husband!
Goodness, where do I begin this story is magical, all encompassing and emotional in so many ways. The honesty, grief and pure emotion of loss is so spot on that sometimes it was hard to experience while at the same time vindicating and identifiable. I absolutely loved and was also sad about Avalee and Rowan's journey. This loss is hard to overcome and also no one's fault, it is emotional and heartbreaking. This story is beautifully told and amazing ❤️

This second chance romance is set against the backdrop of a South Carolina ghost town that investors have hired a renovation firm to restore and revitalize. The last person Avalee expects to see again, while working on her biggest project yet, is her ex-husband Rowan. Can they work together to heal a broken town, and each other?
Looking past the far-fetched idea of flipping an entire small town's business district (it's fiction, so suspend reality, I guess), I really enjoyed this story. It's heartwarming, witty, and emotional, and I fell in love with every character. I no longer seek out Christian fiction (most of it is terrible imo) so I'm glad I didn't know going in that this book had religious themes. It surprised me, how good it was, but the themes of redemption and second chances certainly track. Although the story dragged a bit at times, I'm actually sorry to have finished it because I was getting so invested in the characters.
The audiobook narrator was perfect for this story. She conveyed so much warmth and heart.
Trigger warnings for pregnancy/child loss.
This story of loss and redemption, hope and despair, destruction and restoration kept me engaged and guessing from the very first word to the last, I fell in love with the entire quirky, deep, troubled lot of characters, and became invested in their lives. Lowe expertly wove this story together, taking us along for the ride for this beautiful, painful story of finding hope in what feels like destruction, renovations of a town and lives, and letting go of the past so you can embrace the future. The audiobook narration was also excellent. Highly recommended.
Thank you to Net Galley for the ARC.
I like a small town backdrop setup in a novel, and hence enjoyed this one. The elements of second chances also stands out. The book is beautifully narrated and handles grief and loss beautifully, and portrays the beauty of healing.
The book may sound a light read, but has deeper level humane themes that make it a good read.
The book touches you on a emotional level, and the narrative is quite evocative. I liked the concept of restoration of abandoned properties as a theme. This is the first I have read something with the concept. I feel it parallels the theme of healing.

Sometimes what haunts you most is wondering what could have been.
Avalee Elvis prides herself with being able to fix just about anything except her past. Unable to put the puzzle of her life together, she pours heart and soul into making neglected places whole again. As the owner of Lowcountry Lost, Avalee spends her days in hot-pink Carhartt overalls and a tool belt reclaiming Lowcountry properties. Making them beautiful again releases the deep sigh that soothes the hurt she holds.
Avalee’s latest project takes her to tiny Somewhere, South Carolina, a long-abandoned town. She ignores its ghostly folklore but can not miss the shock of hearing the familiar Irish brogue that materializes on the job site—the voice of the man she never wanted to see again.
Rowan Murray is a structural engineer hired by investors to oversee the redevelopment of the quaint downtown Avalee is bringing back to life. Once upon a time, he was also the man who knew Avalee better than anyone else—or so he thought. Six years ago, neither of them was prepared for the tragedy they would face together or what would happen in its wake. But as they work together to complete the rehabbing of Somewhere, their broken pieces and the pain that nearly consumed them begin to lose its grip, and both begin to wonder if it is not too late for a restoration of their own.
I was so excited for the concept of this story, but it felt flat. I appreciate the goal of representing infant loss and the immense grief that comes alongside it, which is a truly heavy and devastating topic. There were some inspiring moments, but overall Ijust could not connect with these characters. There were quite a few random events thrown into the storyline that came up and then were never mentioned again. This left me with quite a few unanswered questions. It was not a bad novel but I was expecting something different based on the way the book was marketed. The main genre of this book was marketed as romance, which I will say it does have a love story throughout, but it was not the core of the story. I feel like more aspects of the romantic relationship could have been explored. In the book we also only got Avalee's perspective, and I think with all of the complicated past emotions, we could have benefited from getting Rowan's perspective too. It would of probably really benefited from being a dual POV instead of just one.
This book was just okay imo, It was ok, but maybe not particularly memorable, and the dialogue was a little cheesy from time to time.
I’ve loved every book I’ve read by TI Lowe and this one is no different. Highly recommend, 5 stars… more to come.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an E- Arc in exchange for an honest review.
The more I read from this author the more I love! Beautiful cover and a great synopsis with a great cast of characters. A well written southern Christian fiction book exploring love lost with all its accompanying pain and grief. I highly recommend this book and hope you will enjoy it as much as I did. Thank you to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for a chance to read and review this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is a slow-paced yet engaging story about a middle aged woman, Avalee, who is working to rebuild her life, and an old ghost town, after years of loss. The characters and friendships are endearing, and the ghost-town rebuild is a neat setting. There are triggering topics of infant loss, child loss, abandonment, and divorce, but all handled really sensitively and with the purpose of growth. The second-chance love story is also really sweet, while still believable. The audiobook narrator was easy to listen to and added an almost soothing quality. I recommend this audiobook to fans of women’s literature with strong female leads and heartwarming, slow plots. Thank you to Netgalley and RBmedia for the ALC in exchange for my honest review.
Avalee Elvis runs her own small company, Lowcountry Lost. Restoring dilapidated old places takes all of her time and energy. When she purchases an entire town (with backers) to restore, the engineer the investors hired is NOT someone Avalee wants to be around. Rowan Murray is her former husband. The two of them were inseparable in their teen years and ended up married. But, after suffering tragic events in their lives, they went their separate ways. Until, that is, they were thrown together on restoration of the small town Avalee has named Somewhere, South Carolina.
The rebuilding of the town is fraught with difficulties. Some buildings need to be taken down completely, the twin brothers who do carpentry are great but work very slowly, and someone seems to be squatting on the grounds. In addition, the bones of a child are discovered in one of the buildings. Avalee is hit hard by the discovery of the skeleton and Rowan is there to support her. The two of them not only create an attractive new town, they begin to find their way back to one another.
Narrator Zura Johnson convincingly gives each character a Southern accent and an individual voice.
Those who enjoy contemporary southern fiction, and/or HGTV won't want to miss this one. Fans of Mary Kay Andrews will also appreciate this book.
This is the story of Avalee and how she uses her renovation company, Lowcounty Lost, to revitalize long forgotten buildings to revitalize a town and give it a second chance of life.
There is a lot of discussion of second chances, not only in buildings and towns, but also past relationships and new connections. In order to restore an entire town, Avalee works with multiple investors, one of which turns out to be her ex-husband, Rowan. There is a lot of history between the two, as not only were they married for a period, they were also best friends growing up. The two have to learn to navigate this complicated relationship of working together as they haven't really spoken since their divorce. In the midst of forming a new kind of friendship, they end up confiding in one another over emotions and events that happened in their past. I don't want to give too much away, but know there are some tougher topics discussed in this one. Definitely check trigger warnings and make sure not to push your boundaries.
Not only do you get to see the reformation of Avalee and Rowan's relationship during the duration of the restoration, but there are also themes of found family. It felt very wholesome and was heart warming to read about. Avalee has found life long friends she can count on to work with her in her business, but she also finds new faces when a boy stops by the jobsite looking for a job. To me, the storyline this leads you down is one of the best of the whole book.
Overall, I think this was a fine novel, I just think it I was expecting something different based on the way it was marketed. The main genre of this book is listed as romance, which I will say it does have a love story throughout. It just didn't seem like the romance was the core of the story. It read much more like a contemporary that delved more into past emotions and healing from them, and learning to love the long forgotten things in life and loving them into a new second life. Plus, with the length of this novel, I feel like more aspects of the romantic relationship could have been explored. Also, you only get Avalee's perspective, and I think with all of the complicated past emotions, we could have benefited from getting Rowan's perspective too.
Trigger warnings: miscarriage, child loss/death, divorce
*Many thanks to the author, NetGalley, and RBmedia for providing a free copy in exchange for my honest review.*
This one started out slow for me and I almost quit on it - one thing that makes me cranky is when an author continually hints about some big secret/event from the past and strings the reader along the whole book. The big secret this time was a big deal (often it isn't, which makes me SUPER cranky), but I still don't understand why authors think this is the best way to artifically add drama or suspense in a book.
Anyway, if you like stories about renovations and small towns, with found families, this clean romance might be for you. Just know there's a lot of past heartbreak between the hero and heroine.
I enjoyed the narrator.
What a sweet book! This book follows Avalee who is essentially an HGTV YouTube. When her next big project, rejuvenating a small lifeless town, has investors that hired someone to help her imagine her surprise when the man they hire is one from her past. Rowan is an engineer and someone who Avalee never wanted to see again. Now that they are working together can they move past their memories and hurt?
The small town elements of this book made it feel sweet and reminiscent of Gilmore Girls. They are quirky caring small town characters but there is depth to this book and the relationships that are found. This book was right up my alley but did not have me emotionally invested in the outcome. It was disappointing because this book has everything I tend to like. That being said this book is cute and the couple has such a spark. I love a good second chance romance and I like the found family elements of this book! I will definitely be reading more from this author.
I recommend this book to anyone who likes second chance romance and HGTV shows. Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this story!
Avalee is taking on her biggest project yet- rehabbing an entire ghost town! But things go wrong immediately as her ex-husband shows up to their first onsite meeting. He is an engineer and was hired by the investors. Working near him is hard- it brings up all of the problems from their past. Can they fix each other and their relationship while fixing the town?
I wanted to like this more than I did. It dealt with some heavy grief, but I felt a disconnect. It should have been sad at times, but just wasn't. I am not sure what was missing for me, but something way.
Part of the problem may have been the audiobook narrator. While her narration is fine by itself, I felt Zura Johnson was not the best fit for the story.
I received an advance audio copy in exchange for an honest review.
Oh my, T.I. Lowe delivers such an emotional and heartwarming tale in Lowcountry Lost. I really enjoyed Avalee's journey, and the way Lowe slowly reveals everything this strong woman has gone through is beautifully done.
The audio version of Lowcountry Lost is nicely performed by Zura Johnson.

"Even though I have grown weary recently, my heavenly Father has not. Thank you, Lord, for propping me up when all I wanted to do was give up. 'He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along' (Psalm 40:2)."

Audio Narration 🎧 5/5 ✨
This was my first book by this author, and I am happy to say that I thought it was fantastic. Lowcountry is set in a ghost town in the south with home/building renovation as its backdrop. Its a story about an ex married couple, with a tragic past- who have been estranged for 6 years. The book deals with some heavy topics, but the author did a fantastic job of doing them justice. The main characters were likable and work their way through tragedy, loss, love, healing and second chances. The narrator did a great job making the characters come to life. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future and would definitely recommend.
As Avalee bring an abandoned town back to life can she do the same for herself.
Avalee has built a career out of bringing neglected places back to life in Lowcountry, SC. Her newest project is a full abandoned town, Somewhere, SC. She does not expect her ex-husband Rowan to join the project as a structural engineer and is rattled by his proximity six year after tragedy tore them apart. Can they remember how to work together to rebuild the town and their life together?
T.I. Lowe was a new author to me with this book and I will definitely seek out more of her work. The story was equal parts heartbreaking and hopeful. As someone who struggled with infertility in the past, this one hit close to home and was very well handled. I've read several second chance romance books in the last couple months and this was my favorite of them all. The relationship and their efforts to rebuild it were the most realistic and healthy. The use of Lowcountry Lost and Somewhere, SC were perfectly utilized in the overall theme of the book. There are lots of side character with bit parts, will they feature in future books? The narrator did a great job covering all those parts and the accents all on her own. Will recommend to romance readers.
