Oh my gosh. ARE YOU KIDDING??? I loved this. LOVED. It’s been a while since I’ve been this obsessed with a book and I’ve missed this feeling.

On Wings of Blood is about a half-fae girl named Medra who finds herself in a new world with no idea how she got there. She is found by Blake, a vampire, and is brought to Blake’s uncle, a vampire leader. They mistake Medra’s fae features as indication that she is a dragon rider (though the dragons are all gone), and she is forced into a marriage bond with Blake. She is also forced to attend Blood Wing academy, a cut throat school full of vampires. Medra must find a way to survive in this dangerous new world.

This book is reminiscent of all my favorite romantasies, Zodiac Academy in particular. Tory and darius fans will especially love this one.

This is dark academia with true enemies to lovers. The plot was fantastic and the dual POV was everything I needed. I cannot wait to see where this series goes!

Thank you to Net Galley and Briar Boleyn for an ARC of this book!

This book was fantastic! Vampire academia with bunches of betrayal, scheming politics, and delicious slow burn. All my favorite tropes, including enemies to lovers, touch her and d!e, and forced proximity.

Fierce and fiery fae FMC that refuses to fall in line as she navigates this new school she was thrown into, and her feelings for one vampire in particular.

Stellar and in-depth world building, interesting magic system and hierarchy. I can’t wait for book 2!

Thank you to Briar Boleyn and NetGalley for this gifted copy.

Medra Pendragon is shocked to arrive in a new land, attacked by vampires. And even more surprised to be forcibly betrothed to Blake Drakharrow and enrolled in Bloodwing Academy, where she will learn to be a consort to a house leader.

This book has a lot of tropes included - but luckily, the book is action-packed and moves incredibly fast. I think more happens in the first tenth of this book than in the first instalment of many romantasy series! There are a lot of characters, but all of them are incredibly vivid and easy to keep separate, including the secondary ones.

I really enjoyed so many of these characters. The professors at Bloodwing Academy, for example, seemed incredibly well drawn. I wanted to get to know them better and hope we will in future instalments. I also loved the friendship between Florence and Medra - they come from very different backgrounds but provide an incredibly supportive basis for each other. I hope we'll see more of them breaking barriers together in future instalments.

I'd recommend this to anyone who enjoys dark academia or The Stars are Dying.

A heart-pounding start to a new fan favorite romantasy!

The chemistry between Medra and Blake is off the charts. I love a good enemies-to-lovers trope, and this one hits all the right boxes. Medra may be a prisoner in a foreign land, but she refuses to bow before the cruel vampires who want her for her connection to the ancient dragon riders.

Blake wants nothing to do with the beauty he found among a pile of dead bodies, but he can't deny his body's attraction to her. When his ruler uncle charges the annoying Medra to be his betrothed (his second one), it creates complex feelings of possession and disparagement—a toxic mixture that makes the deadly challenges they face at Bloodwing Academy twice as dangerous.

This is a real page-turner. I'm looking forward to book two!

I went back and forth on giving this book 3 or 4 stars. I was definitely drawn into the story and enjoyed picking it up to continue every day, but there were a few reasons that I felt this book didn't quite deserve 4 stars.

1. There were some spelling issues and other errors that were hard to overlook. Not a ton, but enough to be irritating if that's something that bugs you in books.
2. There were a few plot points that felt like they were just randomly thrown into the story for more action, but didn't actually make logical sense. I'm not saying they weren't fun to read about, but they didn't quite fit the full storyline in my opinion.
3. Lastly, at times I felt as though I was accidentally reading the second book in a series. We had some vague information about how Medra ended up where she is, but it felt like pieces were missing and I would have liked a bit more information.

I would still recommend this book to people who enjoy dark academia, vampires, and fantasy romance. I have read other books from Briar Boleyn and have faith that this series is going to become more interesting as it continues!

Thank you to Starwater Press and NetGalley for providing me with a free e-ARC of this book in exchange for my review.

On Wings of Blood is an intense and gripping tale that wonderfully intertwines elements of dark fantasy and action. The protagonist of the story navigates a world of betrayal, vengeance, and redemption, with a unique focus on aerial combat and mythological themes. The vivid imagery and fast-paced narrative immerse the reader in a universe that feels both vast and personal. The book delivers thrilling moments but the character development did feel a little rushed. Either way, On Wings of Blood is a compelling read for fans of high-stakes fantasy with a sharp edge.

Intriguing storyline with an easy-to-read writing style, epic world-building, sizzling enemies-to-lovers romance and beautiful friendship, all set against the backdrops of dangers lurking in every corner of this universe makes this book so hard to put down!

Medra is a fierce, determined and curious girl who found herself in a strange world and betrothed to a vampire prince.
I really enjoyed following her story as she navigates through this new world – seeing how she tried to survive and made friendships with Florence and Naveen.

Blake is a mysterious, cruel and arrogant guy, although he also has a soft side which we see more of from his POV.
I liked seeing Medra and Blake’s attraction grows into something more as we delved deeper into the story. However, his possessiveness towards Medra can be slightly alarming.
After that last chapter, I’m curious to see how their relationship will progress in the next book.

There were lots of twists and turns near the ending, as betrayals and dark secrets starts to come out one by one.
I’m hoping we’ll get to explore more of the world building and also get to know more about the dragons and their rider’s history in the next book.

Overall, this was an entertaining and addicting dark academia romantasy!
I was hooked right from the start and I’m looking forward to read the sequel coming out very soon!

I wasn’t aware that this was a spin-off series to the Blood of a Fae series, but don’t worry I enjoyed reading this book without any problem and I’m sure you will too.
If you want to know more of the land where Medra comes from, then you can check out the Blood of a Fae series.

⚠️ 𝐓𝐖: violence, blood, murder, animal cruelty, bullying, child abuse, sexual content. Full list of trigger warnings can be found in the book.

Wowza. First off, thank you to NetGalley, Briar and Starwater Press for the e-copy of this book!

Briar Boleyn has done it again, she has absolutely wowed us with another intriguing tale that keeps us moving and feeling through the whole read. On Wings of Blood gripped me tight and I couldn’t put it down until I had read the whole thing.

Earlier this year, I read Briar’s Court of Fae books (Queen of Roses, Court of Claws, etc) and I was enamored by the fun twist on an Arthurian legend but with magic and fae and hot Kairos Draven. Now, Medra Pendragon was not on my “want to read more about” characters after those books. Her ending seemed final. But WAS I WRONG. I am now obsessed with this fiery red-head and her magical entrance into the world of Sangratha and Blake Drakharrow (👀 more on him shortly).

I mean fae + vampires + dragons?! This book was written for me clearly. The Bloodwing Academy is vicious and intriguing. I am very interested in this history between the blightborn and the high bloods and how history may have been rewritten as Medra says, by the victors (the vamps obvi).

Don’t get me started on Blake. If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times. A bad boy with a heart of gold who is willing to kill for the woman he loves?! Just yes. Sold. I’ll take 2. After the ending though I am dying to see what happens in the next book, because phew Blakey… I mean I know he hasn’t had an easy go of it but you gotta ask a girl! (Spoiler free here friends 👀)

I am lucky enough to have gotten an ARC of the next book, The Bond that Burns, and am so excited to devour that book next so I can see what the heck has just happened.

Academic vibes, dragons, vampire, magic, and a fantastic world to get lost in? Sign me up.

Definitely recommend and would suggest reading Briars first series starting with Queen of Roses to have more insight into our main character Medra before reading this one.

Enemies to lovers is such a vibe and I cannot wait to see where the next book takes Medra and Blake. Don’t be fooled by the slow start of this one, it is well worth sticking it out! There are some great characters in the book - some I wanted to reach in to slap silly and some to give them a hug - BUT THE ENDING?!? Wow.

A book with heavy world building, an academy, vampires, and ordinary people mixed together; what's not to like? The history of the kingdom was interesting, well thought out, and Blake and Medra's stories and duel points of view made for an entertaining and interesting read.

Listen - It can be a little cringey at times, but if you enjoyed Fourth Wing or Zodiac Academy in anyway, you'll enjoy this! And vice versa, if you found fault with said novels, you're not going to like this! Me personally: I love a straightforward novel with the angst I need for a simple, engaging, and fast paced read! This is that!

I was prepared and not prepared all at the same time. I requested On Wings of Blood ARC by Briar Boleyn because I had read and enjoyed the Blood of a Fae series.

I went into OWoB thinking this was a separate, unrelated series only to be pleasantly surprised to find MEDRA. Medra was such a unique character in the later Blood of Fae books. I was kicking my feet to follow her along at the Bloodwing Academy.

You *need* to know Medra and Orcades backstory to truly enjoy all of OWoB. I strongly encourage readers to read the Blood of Fae series first.

However, the Bloodwing Academy series is not the same as the previous book. Both are great and have their own worlds/plots.

I’ve seen some compare OWoB to Fourth Wing and Harry Potter. While some essence of those series can be found, the Bloodwing Academy stands on its own.

The characters are great. The characters are mostly college ish age so keep that in mind. I am running to read the bonus chapters and will be on the lookout for book 2!

Thank you Netgalley and starwater press indie for this ARC in exchange of an honest review.

I have read the connected series and loved it. So when I saw we are getting answers to what happened to Medra Pendragon in finale of dark fae series, I had to request it. And such a ride it was.

First of all, I hate you Blake. You are stupid, the count of mistakes you did you should never get Medra Pendragon as a partner but I know she will end up with you because you are the MMC after all. Sigh. Only if you don't make more mistakes.

Medra, you are amazing.

There are of course many flaws in the storyline but I definitely enjoyed it totally. The HP vibes, the Arthurian bit almost everything except the vampire stuff. I just hope this high blood drama and Blake both get better in next book. And with that cliffhanger, I want to know what Medra does to Blake.

Now I'm eagerly waiting for the next book.

First of all thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I have yet to finish the last book of Boleyn's previous series and wasn't quite aware that this book was linked to that series. I know the name Medra Pendragon should have given it away, but if you're like me and haven't finished that series maybe do that first.

This was a strong start to what seems to be another great series by Briar Boleyn. Said it before, but will say it again, Boleyn really knows how to write a villain you love to hate. Regan was just the worst the whole way through. And Viktor, just ugh.

Medra was a great character, enjoyed her defiance and loyalty. Blake was interesting and made some flawed but well meant choices. I am looking forward to these enemies becoming lovers.

Loved Medra's friends and the worldbuilding was great as always. Super excited to continue reading this.

thank you so much to the author, Briar Boleyn, and NetGalley for this ARC! ☺️

i finished this book two days ago, and i’m still thinking about it. to be honest, i’m a little lost without these characters! i devoured this book in five days! it would have been less had life not gotten in the way. but now i’m (im)patiently waiting to return to Bloodwing Academy and see what happens next thank god the next book comes out next week!

i was captured by this story right from the start, and immediately fell in love with Merda. her fiery attitude, stubborn nature and determination to do the right thing is the definition of a badass female main character. also, her friendship with Florence is so special and endearing!

Blake is the scary as hell vampire prince determined to make Merda’s life a living hell. and also her betrothed.. he’s the villain we love to hate (and love 😍) and the first chapter we get from his perspective is absolutely everything 👌🏻

the premise of the story is incredibly intriguing and i love when the author introduces the reader to their world through the main character learning about it too. i feel like i should be terrified of Bloodwing Academy, but i’ve never wanted to go back to school more!

its confirmed that Briar Boylen is my first auto-buy author. i cannot wait to dive into her other fantasy series and see what she does next! if you’re looking for a story that’s dark academia, vampires, bonded mates, ancient magic and dragons? look no further, you’ve found it ♥️

I really enjoyed this book! Give me a good dark academia book any day and I’m happy. I really enjoyed Medra and Blake as characters on their own and together was even better. I appreciated that it was more of a true slow-burn because that always makes it seem more real. Nedra’s found family friendship with Florence and Naveen really added to the story as well. I am greatly looking forward to book two!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC and chance to read and review this!

OKAY THIS BOOK HAS ME HOOKED AND I NEED MORE.

Medra Pendragon is a really interesting and bad ass FMC. I genuinely enjoyed the beginning of her journey. Medra was really going through it when she woke up not only in a new world but on a pile of corpses. Immediately captured and betrothed. She’s also told that she is the last blood dragon rider…. Immediately after arriving to this “new world” she’s forced into a betrothal, that she didn’t even ask for, tossed into a cut throat academy full of vampires and has to compete in deadly trials for said marriage she loathes.

Enter Blake Drakharrow: he’s a broody, asshole vampire, bully, head of his house, and bloodthirsty…. who doesn’t understand for a while why keeps saying “mine.” 🤭

The beginning is a little wild, and I spent the first 20% like, “HUH? What is even happening?” My only personal issue was the few bits that dragged but I still enjoyed it. THEN once it clicked, I couldn’t put it down. If you like your fantasy dark, dramatic, and full of irresistible tension, this one’s for you.

ALSO THAT ENDING…. WHAAAAT

“It didn’t matter if she believed it. If she accepted it. It didn’t matter if she hated me. I’d believe it enough for both of us. She was mine and she always would be.” ♥️

This book was everything I could have asked for and more! I could not put the book down, it was that good and I was so invested in the story. Yes, there were times where it felt campy, but I didn’t care because it had all of my favorite tropes, settings, and characters that made me love it that much more!

I loved Blake and was so happy we got some chapters from his POV. Yes, he’s done some questionable things but you can tell how much he cares for Medra. The enemies to lovers plot was done so well!

The rest of the characters were so great too! I really want to learn more about Medra and her history (aka I need to read the previous series asap 😂) as well as see more of the other houses! Also, I’m so glad I don’t have to wait too long to read book 2, especially with the way this one ended!

If you love dragons and vampires, a dark academia setting (with different houses), and enemies to lovers, you definitely need to check this one out!

Thank you so much to @briarboleynauthor and Netgalley for the advanced copy! On Wings of Blood is out now and book 2 comes out this Friday, the 27th!

Firstly, thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for sending me an ARC for review ❤️
This is such a great continuation of Medra’s story from the Blood a a Fae series and you should definitely read those before reading this one.
I’ll be honest I was unsure about how I’d feel about Medra’s series since I wasn’t too attached to her in the other series but I was so happily surprised!
Medra is thrust into this unknown world where everything is so different than her home and she approaches it with so much bravery, boldness, and fierceness and it was so refreshing to see that from an FMC.
And the world building? It’s AMAZING. It’s well thought out and explained plus I really felt like I could envision the world in my mind and I feel like the author can expand on this so much more in the rest of the series.
The ROMANCE. TBH it’s a bully romance so it was definitely frustrating (in a good way) sometimes. I definitely could see Medra and Blake being a kick ass power couple so I just wanted it to get to that point 😅
Overall this book exceeded my expectations and right now I’m very excited for book 2.
Also between this book and her previous series Briar has definitely become an auto buy/read author. Her writing is always so captivating.

Big thanks to Netgalley and Briar Boleyn for the eARC in exchange for a review.

This is an academy story line, with loose ties to another series Briar wrote (blood of after fae).
Medra 'falls' into what might just be another realm with vampires. She immediately becomes unwillingly attached to a prince who is of course, seemingly already attached.

I loved it. The stream, the betrayal, the friendships. All of it.

5 stars
