Tons of twists in this book that I didn’t see coming. River is grieving the loss of her father and the disappearance of her mother as she tries to make a life and fall in love. A little more spice than I was expecting from YA! But a good book!
This is the second arc by Sloan I have reviewed and she delivered once again. This book is emotional and it's a roller coaster as River dives into the past to find the truth about her parents and what may have happened to them as well as adapting to her new normal. There are a few different mysteries involved in this one and it had me on the edge of my seat. I couldn't wait for my reading time each day.
River is is still dealing with the death of her dad in a fire the same evening her long term boyfriend broke up with her. Her mom who has been know to go for walks in the woods when life gets to be too much has also been missing for about a year. Luckily she still has her aunt, her best friend and maybe a budding relation ship with the broody boy from work. This book I starts off as a nice story about a girl dealing with grief and trying to move on. The further you get the more crazy it gets. There a secrets upon secrets that are revealed. At first I was kind of annoyed with River for having that overly angst 18 year old “no one ever told me anything” attitude. At first I was you were a child and some of this was no one of your business. By the end I was willing to give her a complete pass. I got sucked into the story and was surprised by not most of the plot twists. An overall interesting quick read in the New Adult genre.
This book was just as good as the first! So many plot twist you don’t see coming! I’d definitely put this on your 2025 TBR!
Thank you netgalley for an early copy!
This book was pretty good. It held my attention and kept me reading to find out what was going to happen to tie everything together. I would recommend it to anyone who likes a book with some mystery that has multiple points come together in the end.
Not only a beautiful love story but a mysterious novel of twists and turns as the secretive truths are gradually untangled. This is a real charmer that kept me reading and enjoying.
Ok so let me start by saying I initially was very invested in where this story was going.. both in the pace of writing and the development of characters. Unfortunately, towards the middle and the end I felt disconnected from the storyline and the characters and found it easier to put down… it’s marketed as a YA dark, romantic thriller but I’d say it’s more a “new adult mystery”…. There is a open door sex scene that reads more mature than a YA normally would… I’m no stranger to on page sex scenes and I prefer a steamier romance overall so I say that more so to maybe change the marketing of this to “new adult” versus YA whereas not to get backlash from teenagers’ parents.
Overall, I enjoyed the writing but felt maybe adding in a little bit more of the romance and connection with Logan and re-editing some of the scenes to better blend all of the themes of the story would really elevate the overall “feel” of the book! 3.5 stars and I still adore Sloan Harlow.
Absolutely loved this book! The pace was perfect, the story was perfect. That's Netahlley and to the publisher for the ARC.
An interesting, twisty read that kept me guessing.
Thank you to netgalley for an advanced copy. My opinions are my own.
My Thoughts
Categorized as a young adult mystery romance these genres are at the top of what this story encompasses.
There is also grief, loss and more that readers feel right along with River as slowly the truth is uncovered.
Secrets abound as do lies both current and past, lies that take River not only by surprise but cause her to basically lose her sense of self at times.
When all the connections are finalized what I thought was true is and the reasons behind why things happened to River and her family was yes a bit predictable but still an intriguing mix of innocence lost and maturity found by books end.

On every book read as soon as it is done and written up for review it is posted on Goodreads and Netgalley, once released then posted on Amazon, Barnes and Nobles as well.
River’s life suddenly changed. Her mother had left her and her father. Her home has burned down to the ground causing her father’s life. River has to rebuild her life. She also discovered secrets about her parents and everything around. Thanks to the publishers and NetGalley for giving me an opportunity to read this book and do a review.
This story was more convoluted and crazy than I expected. It is obvious from the synopsis that River is going to uncover some significant secrets. Some of the secrets were fairly predictable. However, some of the secrets are not twists I would have ever expected.
In "All We Lost Was Everything" by Sloan Harlow we meet River, and as the tittle says had recently lost everything. Or so she thought. Her world starts to unravel and just when you thought something else could not happen it just does. A nice suspense story with a few twists and turns you might not have seen coming.
I LOVED this. Each time I thought I knew where the story was going I was wrong. Every turn will keep you wanting the rest of the story. It is like a puzzle that you need to finish as fast as possible. The sprinkle of romance added in was also the perfect little bonus.
This was amazing and I love this author!! I could not put this one down. I hope everyone gives this a chance
One of those dramatic, cheesy YA reads that you just can't put down.
So, sometimes you just need a captivating read, even if it's not the most well-written. Are the characters mostly tropes, without much behind them? Oh well. I still couldn't put this book down: I found it totally addictive.
River loses her dad in a house fire and her mom has disappeared. While she's grappling with that, she falls for Logan, who works with her at the local diner. He too has a deceased parent. Logan is, of course, the smoldering bad boy type. River has a "ride or die" best friend in Tawny, who also works at the diner, and a rich ex, Noah, who dumped her shortly before the fire changed her whole world.
EVERYTHING is a wild mix of romance and mystery. It walks and talks like a YA read, but there are certainly some steamy scenes. While I was intrigued by River and Logan's love story, I'll admit that it was pretty much insta-love, and what really got me hooked were the portions delving into the fire, her mom's disappearance, and her parents' past. There are some awesome decent twists and surprises along the way.
This story is rife with the histrionics of teenagers--many of the chapters end with dramatic declarations--and River and Logan are hot one day, icy cold the next. Still, if you let yourself go with the flow, it's enjoyable to get caught up in their spectacle and craziness.
Thank you Penguin and NetGalley for this e-ARC in exchange for an honest review. I first heard the words "millionaire" and family secrets about this book and my mind immediately went to my favorite book, The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. However, I heard this was more of a romantic thriller (and in The Inheritance Games, it's about a billionaire but who cares because with that much money, semantics, right?) and my interest piqued even more.
You know the drill. Our protagonist lost everything in a fire and an anonymous donor gives her everything but what's the catch? I really did like Sloan Harlow's writing. It was interesting and it kept me intrigued as to what the next reveal was going to be. I really did like River and Logan as well and thought they were honestly fine and balanced each other out enough. To be honest, this would have probably made a better audiobook read for me personally, but I did enjoy what I read!
I went into this book basically blind, but I am so glad I stuck it through. The novel is true to the reviews. It’s gripping and contains twists that had me gasping from surprise. I will say that the main male character was someone I felt slightly disconnected from. I don’t know if that was purposeful on the author’s end, but I would say I was not so keen on his personality for some reason. I definitely think this is a top read so far this year and cannot wait to recommend this to friends in the new year!
It bad at all! It was a little slow to start and not as steamy as I thought. Then again it is YA so it’s probably perfect!
“Everyone’s hiding something. I just didn’t realize that everyone was hiding everything.”
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC of “All we lost was everything.” This is my first Sloan Harlow book but it will not be the last (i say this as I immediately ordered Everything We Never Said).
River Santos has lost everything. Her father perished in a fire that almost took her life as well. Her mother has left and is nowhere to be found. The man who she thought was the love of her life broke up with her without any indication as to why. She’s working a dead end job in a diner trying to pick through the rubble that was left behind.
A new love enters her life, and just as she is healing from the emotional pain and moving forward, new details emerge that the fire that took her father’s life might not have been an accident.
My oh my did this book take a twisty turn that I wasn’t expecting and I could not put it down. It was on a collision course for heartbreak. So many secrets. So many lies.
It was a quick page turner that I would definitely recommend.
