While a cheesy YA novel, this was a good read!
It has romance, twists and turns and the right amount of suspense.
Every character having their own secret made this even better when it came to the plot twist. This is the first but probably not the last book for me from this author!

This was an intriguing read. I was hooked from the very first page. The plot twists also kept me guessing. I wasn’t necessarily overly connected to the romance between River and Logan. It felt like their relationship started moving way too fast. Overall, a good read.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the arc!

Sloan Harlow's All We Lost Was Everything introduces readers to River, a young woman who is grappling with the aftermath of two tragic events: the recent death of her father in a house fire and the disappearance of her mother. The novel weaves a complex narrative that touches on themes of grief, loss, and the search for answers. As River struggles to piece together the truth behind her father's death and her mother's disappearance, the book unfolds a labyrinth of twists and turns that keep the reader guessing until the final pages.
River's internal struggle is portrayed with great sensitivity, and her journey of self-discovery is relatable, even as the mystery surrounding her family's tragedy unfolds.
That said, the novel can feel a bit convoluted at times. The plot is laden with mysteries that lead to more questions than answers, and while this adds an element of suspense, it also risks overwhelming the reader. Some moments in the narrative could have been trimmed, as the pace occasionally slows to a crawl, which detracts from the overall impact of the story. The numerous twists towards the end, while surprising, leave certain plot points feeling underdeveloped, making the resolution feel a bit rushed after such a slow buildup.
Despite these issues, All We Lost Was Everything succeeds in creating an intriguing, if sometimes frustrating, mystery. The characters are well-crafted, and the emotional depth of the story is undeniable. For readers who enjoy slow-burn mysteries with complex emotional layers and don't mind a narrative that demands patience, this book will certainly be a rewarding read. However, for those who prefer a quicker pace and more clarity, it may feel like an uneven experience.

Just meh for me.
Started out interesting, but moved too slowly and too much of a romance flair for me, and not enough of the thriller part
I received an ARC from netgalley in exchange for an honest

Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Books for this ARC. River's father just died when their house burned down, her boyfriend broke up with her and her mom has disappeared. Now she is trying to move on from all the tragedy when Logan at work finally talks to her. Everything River thought was true was only a lie.
This book started out as a romance then turned into a thriller. I am not a fan of YA or steamy books but was this was still a good read! #AllWeLostWasEverything #SloanHarlow #PenguinYoungReaders #May2025

I first found out about this last summer when I read everything we never said and when I saw that they were coming out with another book I knew i wanted an arc of it. This book very good and a quick read for me.

Fast-paced, exciting, interesting plot and plot twists. Cool character development, and interesting relationships between complicated characters.

The novel shines in its complex character dynamics. Logan Evans, her brooding coworker, initially seems distant and hostile but soon emerges as an unexpected ally. Their slow-burning romance is well-developed, filled with tension, vulnerability, and mutual healing. The chemistry between them is palpable, and his own hidden past adds another layer of intrigue to the plot.
Beyond the romance, the book explores profound themes grappling with grief, uncovering painful family secrets, and questioning who can truly be trusted. The revelation that her father wasn’t as perfect as she once believed adds emotional depth, while her estranged mother’s disappearance raises even more uncertainties. Each twist keeps the reader hooked, making this not just a love story but a compelling mystery.

Every now and again I enjoy a foray into young adult, angsty reads. I can't do them often, but when they are well done, they definitely hold a place in my heart. And this one was well done. Sure, it's a bit dramatic, but what young adult read isn't? Sure there is insta-romance but, again, what young adult story isn't? It had some twists that I didn't anticipate and I really enjoyed it.

This book kind of had everything! Suspense/mystery, romance, anticipation. I have not read the other books by Sloan, and will be checking them out or adding to my list stat! Enjoyable. The pace was generally consistent. A solid read!

This book didn't really grab my attention and I felt it moved quite slowly until I hit about the 60-70% mark. Once I hit that point, the ball really started rolling! I couldn't get enough of the last chunk of the book and really enjoyed the twists and turns and reveals that happened. I felt awful that the female main character River had gone through so much. The characters were enjoyable. At times I did feel like the characters were a little immature, but given their age, I suppose it is par for the course. I was glad to get a little glimpse into the future at the very end. Overall, I enjoyed this book - I just wish it had gotten my attention a little sooner than the over halfway point.
I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinions.

This was such a good read! You could easily finish it in one sitting. I was hooked from the beginning as the main character was so likable. I was rooting for River but also being heartbroken for her all at the same time. Knowing Logan had a secret the entire time really amped up the tension and suspense. The author did a great job creating plot twist after plot twist and yet it was still easy to understand. If you're looking for a thriller, this is the one.

Sexy, plot twists, trust issues and grief. River and Logan's journey isnt easy but grips you in and swallow you into their world.
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.

Ohhh my!!! This book yall. Let me tell you you will feel all the feels. The drama starts right off the bat but man oh man is there some beyond crazy twists I never ever saw coming. The characters are great. The romance is decent. There’s not a whole lot of smut but that makes up for it in angst and curveballs thrown right at your face. Oof finished it in one day and it was great.

This YA suspense book had a lot going on. Equal parts mystery/suspense and romance, this was a quick read that kept me entertained.
River has lost everything- her dad, her home and her mom has been missing for a year. She’s not entirely alone-she has her best friend, her Tita and a job as well as two million dollars that was donated through a gofundme. She’s dealing with grief, hoping her mom comes back to her and boys.
This reads very much like a YA with angst and drama. It was a slow start for me but picked up quickly. I love books with Filipino rep so this was a plus for me! There are some details that don’t make sense but that’s okay, this is about vibes and enjoying the ride.
While this book does not have true spice, it does have some passionate moments!

A solid 4.5 stars to All We Lost Was Everything. The first page of this book grabbed me and didn't let go until the end. I was not expecting to be so engrossed with this book. The cover caught my attention, the description intrigued me and the genre tags had me quickly requesting a copy. Admittedly, the genre tags were a little misleading "Romance/Young Adult/Mystery/Thriller/Dark Romance/Fiction/Mystery/Thriller/Contemporary Romance". Categorizing this as a Dark Romance or Thriller is a bit of a stretch, however, I still thoroughly enjoyed it. I mean, there was an element of Romance, and parts of the story were certainly Dark. However, terming it Dark Romance is inaccurate. I would loosely consider this to be a Psychological Thriller, but not really. All that being said, it was still not a Light Hearted Romance by any means.
I'm not entirely sure what I was expecting with this book but this was not it! In the best of ways. This book shattered me and put the pieces back together again. I was enthralled and captured by this story, the development, the characters, and the unanticipated twists. I fell in love with the characters. My heart broke over and over for River and I think I was crushing just as hard on Logan. I liked the writing style. Plenty of imagery that invokes feelings. Excellent plot. I love it when a book can catch me off guard and this delivered. I sincerely enjoyed this book.
*Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of All We Lost Was Everything in exchange for a fair and honest review*

Whoa! 🤯👀 Thank you @netgalley and @penguinbooks for this ARC. I had no idea what I was in for, and couldn’t have been more engaged or drawn into the mysteries and secrets of this small town story. So much fun!
River has experienced so much loss - her mom took off, her dad died in a house fire that stole everything from her. She gets by with the amazing support of her aunt and best friend, Tawny. She spends her days working at the local diner alongside Tawny and she is shocked when Logan, her handsome and broody coworker who she thinks dislikes her, begins showing interest.
So many twists and surprises! I highly recommend this one.

This YA novel has an interesting premise, with a good amount of intrigue built in; I found that while the plot felt overly-complicated at times, some of those mysteries and secrets were quite compelling. This makes the book a real page-turner and helps to balance out the emotional heft. It has a really nice blend of mystery, suspense, and romance. Overall, a fast and entertaining read.
.

Where do I even begin? This was tragic and beautiful and I was addicted.
River’s mom took off, her boyfriend broke up with her and her whole world turned to ash in a house fire. After the death of her father sends her reeling and lost, River is just trying to find her new normal. Someone gave her two million dollars and instead of using it, she continues to work at the local diner with her best friend, Tawny. There, she finds Logan. First brooding and seemingly repulsed by her, he softens and soon begins a whirlwind romance. With River’s mom still long gone and text messages unanswered, River longs for the truth. Soon, she realizes she can’t trust anyone and everyone has something to hide.
This had everything! The romance, the suspense, the mystery and a few laughs thrown in. I was locked in and not willing to put it down until I got my answers! I enjoyed the characters and even the villains, I found some sympathy for.
The plot twist was twistinggg for sure and I was holding on for dear life until the very last page! This is a must read for sure!

The plot was very twisty. The length was a bit long for my liking but it was a decent and enjoyable dark thriller.
