If you’re looking for a dark, twisty romantic thriller that keeps you guessing until the very last page, All We Lost Was Everything is your next must-read. Sloan Harlow masterfully weaves a story of loss, secrets, and unexpected connections that had me hooked from the start.
River Santos is such a relatable and raw protagonist. After losing everything—literally everything—in a house fire, she’s left grappling with grief, mystery, and the strange reality of becoming a millionaire overnight thanks to an anonymous donor. The diner where she works becomes a microcosm of her world as she questions everyone’s motives, including Logan, her broody and annoyingly attractive coworker.
The chemistry between River and Logan is undeniable, but what really shines here are the layers—family secrets, personal struggles, and an undercurrent of tension that builds beautifully throughout the book. Just when I thought I had the story figured out, Harlow threw in another curveball that had me flipping pages late into the night.
The writing is sharp and engaging, balancing the darker themes with moments of levity and heart. And that twist? Let’s just say I didn’t see it coming. This book reminds you that even when you think you’ve hit rock bottom, there’s always more to uncover—and maybe even more to lose.
Whether you're a fan of romantic thrillers or just love a gripping story with complex characters, All We Lost Was Everything is well worth your time. I’m already looking forward to whatever Sloan Harlow writes next!
Overall a decent read. It was pretty predictable and jumped around a lot. Also as far as being described as sexy, it was more mild than I am imagined.
Mystery, romance, twists...everything you could want in a book. The suspense of this book had me on the edge of my seat. Harlow's writing is superb and I was hooked from the start.
So I dont normally go for YA style books but this was amazing I felt like i was on the journey with her trying to figure out what was happening with this new guy and what the deep dark secrets were.
I'm a sucker for dark romance and suspense, who isn't these days, right? I felt pulled into the story from the first sentence and I couldn't stop reading even when the sun went down. Read this book and you'll be pulled into the world building, characters, romance and intrigue.

I couldn't put it down. Luckily it was a slow day at work and I could sit and read.
What a whirlwind. The novel begins with River grieving her father, who died in an accidental house fire. She lost everything, all of her childhood memories. Her mother, with a history of going of long walks, (of days, weeks, even months), has made no effort to contact River. Her boyfriend dumped her the day of the fire. The only people she has is her best friend, Tawny, and this hot annoying guy, that hates her, that works with her at the diner, and the mysterious donor who added $2 million to her go-fund-me.
I gave a short summary to a coworker, and told her I think I know who did what, and where the money came from. I was wrong. I told her my next theories. I was wrong.
I already recommended it to my friends that love young adult and/or mystery thrillers! A-mazing!

*All We Lost Was Everything* by Sloan Harlow is a raw, gripping, and utterly unforgettable novel that captivated me from the very first page. Harlow’s writing is sharp and evocative, pulling you into the lives of her characters as they navigate immense personal challenges and the complexities of their relationships.
The story centers on a woman facing the devastating loss of everything she thought she knew about her life and the people she loved. Harlow expertly blends themes of betrayal, love, and self-discovery into a fast-paced narrative that is as emotional as it is thought-provoking. The characters are deeply flawed yet incredibly human, making their struggles all the more impactful. I found myself invested in their journey from start to finish, rooting for them to find healing and redemption.
What sets this book apart is the way it deals with tough topics—loss, regret, and the consequences of choices—while still maintaining a sense of hope and resilience. The pacing is perfect, and each chapter left me wanting more. The emotional tension throughout is palpable, and the plot twists will keep you on the edge of your seat.
*All We Lost Was Everything* is a story about resilience, the strength to move forward after loss, and the power of forgiveness. Sloan Harlow has written a beautifully painful and ultimately hopeful story that will stay with you long after you’ve finished reading. If you love books that explore the depths of human emotion, personal growth, and the challenges of rebuilding after tragedy, this is a must-read. Highly recommend!
The characters in "All We Lost Was Everything" are well-developed and multi-dimensional, with rich backstories that add depth to the narrative. Harlow's protagonist is a compelling and relatable hero, whose flaws and strengths make them feel fully realized.
All We Lost Was Everything is a gripping tale of romance, mystery, young adult drama, and emotional trauma. As we quickly learn our young heroine has literally lost everything and is now trying to find her way alone in the world. People come and go in her life and all have different motives for being there, and some cannot be trusted. And that's the part she has trouble with... who to trust?
This first time read held many surprises and moments that had me on the edge of my chair, it was almost impossible to predict what would happen next. I thoroughly enjoyed this venture, it's well penned words had me entranced the whole way through. Highly recommend!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, via NetGalley, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.
Once again, I'm impressed. Sloan Harlow's debut novel wowed me and All We Lost Was Everything was just as great. Harlow continues to prove she is proficient in crafting a well written, dark, and twisty romance/thriller that I don't want to put down. The depiction of grief and moving on from it, dealing with hiccups in love and friendship, and the heartache River was going through were all so vivid and impactful. All the traumatic events and suspense that kept on coming only added to the intensity of the story and what River was feeling. I guessed some things before they happened, but others left me surprised. I love when a book is able to surprise me and make me feel the way this one did. This was an impressive sophomore novel.
This book was very interesting and some of the twists surprised the heck out of me. I felt so bad for River she has gone through so much in her short life. She lost her dad and everything in a fire, her mom took off on a hike and has been gone longer than ever before. Thank goodness she has a loving Aunt and a caring best friend. Her boyfriend dumped her just before the fire but is there a new guy in her future? I did like that all the questions that River and the reader has get answered before the end of the book and I was very satisfied with the way the book ends. I saw on Amazon that it says the reading level is 14 and up, that may be true but there are some pretty explicit sex scenes I wouldn't recommend for a younger teen to read.
River Santos is stuck—in her job at the diner, in her dead-end town, in her grief. Her father died in a house fire just a few months ago, her mother has been MIA for nearly a year, and the only people she can count on are the aunt she lives with and her best friend Tawny.
Excellent story of the journey to discovery how the fire that killed her father started and where her mother ended up.
Fun read!! Really enjoyed! There’s a bit of fun mystery, and some touching romance. Loved the dynamic between River and Logan. Once I started this read, I read until I finished it; the author did a good job of drawing me in and keeping me anticipating how the story would end up. This is the first time I’ve heard of this author; I’m looking forward to more!
This book was absolutely amazing. Definitely worth reading
