“A book can take me by the hand, whisk me to another land…”

Twenty imaginative poems about the joy in everyday moments, to inspire young and old to explore the delightfully wonderful world of rhythm and rhyme, created by Raven Howell. Illustrations by Nazali Tarcan are playful and nostalgic. This was a wonderful read with the little gnomes seated on (or nearby) my lap.

A set of twenty very short child-friendly poems, given copious examples of an illustrative style I really didn't find attractive. There are verses about taking a quiet breather, or mice reading books, or a gift of a robin's feather, and looks at cheering us up, spreading love and the benefits of a hug. It's all very strong on the rhyme, but however instantly appealing things are they are too short to really stick in the mind – and when the bulk of the page is that artwork, well it's going to struggle to get more than three and a half stars.

A cutesy book of poetry that is perfect to get the children's imaginations firing and keeping it there with the lovely illustrations.

I tried it out on my grandchildren and they loved it, so a resounding success.

Thank you Netgalley and handerson publishing for the ARC in exchange of an honest review.

It was nice reading this book but I feel that the rhymes should be more catchy and easier with words that are in daily usage for kids to enjoy it more and remember them. That is my personal experience from my kid's overall interest in the book.

It is a good read . New rhymes so more fun.

A lovely book for introducing young children to poetry.

The illustrations are beautiful throughout.

Between The Sun and the Moon was my favourite.

I do think it is a shame that there weren’t more poems, I could have carried on reading more.

My thanks to NetGalley for a copy in exchange for my honest review.

I think that there was a really solid idea here, but it was lazily executed and delivered. Don't get me wrong, all of the poems were great and really fun to read. Additionally, there was a range of poetic elements, and each poem felt a bit different. This allowed the book to have a level of diversity within it. However, the main idea/title didn't correlate. There was only one poem that I felt actually related to gnomes, but all of the other poems were about different things. Even further, the illustrations didn't resemble gnomes at all, and I felt really disappointed that the story didn't live up to its title; I expected more. I would either make the illustrations a lot more gnome-y or make all to most of the poems about gnomes. Otherwise, the title feels like it belongs to a different book entirely.

I saw the title of this book, and it already sounded like so much fun. After reading it, I can tell you: This children’s book is such a beauty!

This book feels like a wholesome journey through a period of time. The poems are fun, but still easy enough to understand, making it very enjoyable for kids to read. With its beautiful illustrations, every page is packed with details that turn it into an adventure for all ages. While the artstyle is the same, each page still looks different, resulting that it is not just fun for kids but also for the grownups (like a certain 24 year old babysitter) who read it with/to them.

20 Little Poems for 20 Little Gnomes by Raven Howell, Illustrated by Nazli Tarcan

Sometimes the wisest of words are found between the pages of a children’s book. With its lilting prose and uplifting message, Howell’s book of poems for middle age readers is entertaining.

Easy and uncomplicated, the topics and the words she used to explain painful emotions and life events — Should you Fall, The Hug Poem, Smile, will effortlessly charm the young readers and probably get them to memorise the poem.

I simply adore Tarcan’s illustrations for the book. They easily express and elevate the poems. The light colours, the touch of whimsy in the woodland creatures, the bright splash of colours for nature and emotions, incandescently matched by the poems.

The poems journey through the seasons, from spring right through summer, monsoon, autumn, and winter. Poems of Summer Linger, Boys in Berries, and Spring and the Winter Goblin are particularly enchanting.

The book is a perfect accompaniment to bedtime reading or a reading in the park at a picnic.

The 20 Little Poems for 20 Little Gnomes includes a variety of different poem and rhyme types. It's also beautifully illustrated and children would like to look for all the hidden details. This would be a great poetry introduction for older elementary students.

Beautiful illustrations and thoughtful poems! The author creates magical and sweet poems from simple moments in life as well as things that would be found in the imagination of a child. The illustrations are colorful, yet simple. This would make a great beginning poetry book for elementary aged children.

I've recently become a little obsessed with gnomes, so when I saw this book I had to request it. It's a beautifully illustrated book of lovely, positive little poems. I thought it was utterly charming, and ended up reading half the poems out loud to my husband. I would buy this book as a gift for a friend with a new baby, or for an early (1s, 2nd or 3rd) birthday present. Utterly charming.

I was given an e-Arc of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is such a beautiful book full of beautiful poems and illustration. My only complaint is that it is a bit too short. Wish it were a longer book.

I honestly thought this was the cutest little book. The poems are adorable and they also have some of the cutest pictures to go with them. If you have a beginning reader I would definitely recommend this as a book to read to your own littles or even get them started on their love of reading.

This is an adorable addition to a child’s bookshelf, with short poems that can be read all together or by themselves. Primary school children will have fun reading the book themselves and smaller kids will enjoy having this read to them. My favourite poem was The Hug Poem and all the illustrations are beautiful and whimsical.
