The Vampires of Manhattan is a story about a rash of murders happening and Nephilim's are gaining in numbers. The Four Hundred Year Ball is closely approaching and old relationships begin to reconnect. The peace they achieved ten years ago seems to be cracking and in order to save others they will need everyone possible to prepare for a fight that could destroy everything.
I will say overall the story was good but I was confused by some of the characters. I think it would have been better to have read previous series to help fill in some of the gaps for me. I did really like Mimi and Kingsley, was definitely intrigued by these two.
I used to love Vampire Romance. There were several authors that I really enjoyed their books but this one I did not like. The synopsis and the label of "hipster horror" had me intrigued for sure but I just wasn't a fan.
And another Melissa de la Cruz book for me, she's one of the authors in my auto-read category. LOL. I loved her writing! This started on Blue Bloods series and now this!!! Vampires of Manhattan, I just love this a lot!
The only thing I hate is that I waited so long to read it.
First, of course, I had to finish the original series (not that it was entirely necessary but it did help and I was already halfway through) that I enjoyed but did not love as much as I did this book.
I loved seeing seeing characters I've been familiar with for so long in a new setting. Seeing them all grown up in their new lives ten years later. Had I been following them since the first book, Blue Bloods, came out I'd have been 16 and would have partially grown up along with them, (I didn't. I started the series when I was 21.) and I feel like this book is a love letter to those readers who stood by these characters for that long.
The story isn't as complex as in the previous series (where they're trying to stop Lucifer, so complex would be expected there) this is a home grown mystery. Which I'm sure would have led to more amazing complexity and another great adventure had this series been continued. There's something else to hate.
