This is another fast-paced short story that will have you wondering what you would do if you were in that position. She is a well-known thief the FBI is trying to catch for her connection in multiple art gallery robberies and he is the newest FBI agent assigned to work the case. He is determined to bring her down until he happens to run into her at the gym and is convinced she is more than meets the eye. His gut is telling him there is someone on the inside helping her because she is always one step ahead and his suspicions are confirmed when the lead agent on the case starts lying to him. He decides to dig on his own and finds out that he is at the mercy of a bigwig calling all the shots and threatening to harm her daughter if she doesn’t steal these rare pieces for him. The FBI agent is determined to help her as he falls in love with her and is forced to uncover the evidence needed to take down the inside rogue agent. Only things do not go as planned and he is left questioning whether or not he made the right decisions.
This book was a total gem, the themes and pacing were both on point. I also loved unraveling all the juicy secrets as I turned each page!
A huge shoutout to NetGalley, the author, and publisher for this awesome ARC in exchange for my honest thoughts. :)
I had a hard time settling on a rating for this book. While I loved the storyline and the main characters, the writing style frustrated me. The plot was engaging and kept me hooked, but the pacing felt rushed, and the simplicity of the writing made moments feel unrealistic and even cheesy at times. I truly enjoyed the concept and read every word, but I had higher expectations for the execution, which left me feeling a bit disappointed.
Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to experience this book early in exchange for an honest review.
She Came With a Warning by Kelly Moore is a thrilling, fast-paced story that masterfully blends romance, mystery, and suspense. The story follows FBI Agent Kade Hawke, a lone wolf with a haunted past, as he embarks on a high-stakes mission to apprehend the enigmatic and elusive art thief, Elara Cross. From their first encounter, the chemistry between Kade and Elara is palpable, creating a tension that drives the narrative forward.
What I loved about the book:
The dynamic between Kade and Elara is electric. Kade’s inner struggle between his duty and growing feelings for Elara adds layers to his character, while Elara’s complex backstory and determination to protect her daughter make her both intriguing and relatable. Their perspectives are seamlessly interwoven, allowing readers to connect with their motivations and dilemmas.
The story's twists and turns keep readers guessing, with each revelation adding depth to the characters and their journey. The blend of action, emotional depth, and romantic tension ensures there’s never a dull moment. Kelly Moore’s descriptive writing paints vivid scenes, from the glamorous art world to the shadowy corners of Elara’s past, immersing readers in every detail.
What could have been improved:
While the story is captivating, some elements felt a bit rushed, particularly the resolution of certain plotlines. A little more time spent on character development and the nuances of their relationships could have elevated the narrative even further. Additionally, a few details about the art heists and FBI procedures required a suspension of disbelief, which might detract for readers looking for a more realistic portrayal.
Overall:
She Came With a Warning is an entertaining, emotionally charged read that delivers romance, intrigue, and suspense in equal measure. Kelly Moore has crafted a story that will appeal to fans of thrillers and romantic dramas alike. If you’re looking for a story that combines danger, passion, and heart, this one is worth diving into. I’ll definitely be looking forward to more from this author.
Thank you to Kelly Moore and NetGalley for providing an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review!
A fun and easy read for someone who wants a quick escape from their day. Moore has a great plot line in this story, and this is written easy enough that it's playing as a movie as you go along.
Following an FBI agent who is tasked with being part of the team that is taking down a notoriously beautiful art thief, Agent Kade Hawke is ready for the job. However, things may not be exactly what they seem as he starts digging into the case. How is someone so good at their job and always 2 steps ahead of the FBI team and an agent that has been on the case for years? Agent Hawke is determined to find out.
With a little bit of a cliff hanger, but closed ending- I would love to see a follow up book to this story and get a little bit more to our character's story.
This was my first Kelly Moore book and it was fun! There was a little more drama then I expected not as much action as I would have wanted. There was a little twist thrown in there with a surprise villain which was fun! All and all it was an easy read!
I love this cover! It reminds me of a James Bond movie. And Kade and Elara are straight out of a spy novel. He’s an FBI agent, she’s an art thief. It doesn’t get any better than the sparks that fly when they first meet. It’s more than meets the eye that will have you racing to find out what happens. 5 stars!!!
F.B.I. agent Ethan Hawke is sent to Europe for a new case, one that puts him looking at a top thief named Elara Cross. Law enforcement knows she is always stealing high-end jewelry or art but cannot catch her with the goods. Ethan begins to follow her and when the two meet he is even more taken in by her story and a few of her secrets. A very interesting story that has some twists and turns that I was not expecting. An excellent book with wonderful characters, and very much worth the read.
Thank you for letting me read this arc novel. It was a beautiful piece that I couldn't put down. I was in love with the main character.
FBI Agent Kade Hawke is the classic tortured detective with a tragic backstory who doesn't need a partner or a friend. He's on a mission to hunt down elusive art thief and stunning beauty, Elara Cross. To be expected, he is immediately paired up with a partner, Agent Green, the expert on Elara Cross who has been tracking her movements for years. This quest takes him from the United States to Berlin, Germany, where he undertakes a secret mission to get close to Elara, without telling his partner or the FBI.
What I liked about the book:
The book starts off strong with the well-loved cliche of the hardened detective, emotionally shut off from the world and dedicated to the job who slowly starts to show cracks in the emotional wall he's built around himself.
Both Kade and Elara get their chances to tell the story, swapping perspectives between chapters.
Our protagonists faults and virtues are both shown from multiple perspectives.
What I didn't like about the book:
The setting had the potential to be interesting but it never really gets brought up and doesn't add much to the story.
There are backstory elements and side characters that I found to be irrelevant to the story. There is one character, for example, who seems to only be there to provide appropriately-timed exposition and trauma-dumping.
There were numerous unrealistic pieces to the narrative, especially surrounding the theft of the art, that really had me lose my suspension of disbelief.
I wish there was more substance to characters outside of the romantic elements.
Overall:
This is an action book without much action, a romance without the spice, a thriller without the thrills. If you like the classic romance without explicit sex scenes, or are a fan of detective or spy stories, this is for you.
📚 PUBLICATION WEEK BOOK REVIEW 📚
She Came With A Warning By Kelly Moore
Publication Date: January 4, 2025
Publisher: Kelly Moore
📚MY RATING: ⭐⭐⭐✨
(3.5 ⭐ - Rounded Up To 4⭐)
📚MY REVIEW:
She Came With A Warning had a premise with a lot of promise, and a storyline that intrigued me simply from its synopsis. I really wanted to like this book. Overall it was okay, but it just fell a little flat for me.
Don't get me wrong - the storyline was exactly as the synopsis promised and the action moved along at a quick pace that made it a fast read. This was the story of FBI agent Kade Hawke, assigned to a new team to help bring down the elusive (and beautiful) art thief, Elara Cross. But when Hawke and Cross serendipitously meet, the two feel an instant chemistry with one another. Will Hawke stay true to his FBI assignment, or will he give it all up for love?
It had the allure of action, a little FBI procedural, the European art world, a little romance...I thought it sounded like something I'd love. The thing was, there wasn't really much character development and the whole plotline just felt choppy to me. Thomas just kept happening really quickly and without a lot of backstory to get me there. If this was written with more depth, I think it could have been so much more enjoyable for me.
Any fans of The Office will likely understand this next reference: within just the first few chapters, this book was completely reminiscent of Michael's screenplay about FBI agent Michael Scarn... You know, the one the office staff find in a drawer in his office and do a table read of? This book reminded me of that, and once I made that connection in my head, I couldn't un-think it.
If you are a fan of a lighter thriller that isn't trying to scare you, offers some action with a side of espionage, and includes a fun romance storyline, I think this one will definitely be for you. I wished for a little more depth in the characters and their dialogue, but it was an enjoyable read overall. Thank you to NetGalley and Kelly Moore for this advanced e-copy in exchange for my honest review!

Then they meet…
A complex story with twists and turns that you can’t let go.

This book is exactly my kind of story! I absolutely loved it. She Came with a Warning is packed with thrilling heists, sizzling romance, and jaw-dropping betrayals. My only complaint? I devoured it way too quickly, and now it’s over. I can’t wait to dive into more books by this author. Kelly, if you could start writing the next one like yesterday, that’d be great!

Thank you Kelly Moore and NetGalley for letting me dive into this book!
If you’ve read any of Kelly’s previous books, you know you’ll get a fantastic love story with page turning suspense. She Came With A Warning didn’t disappoint. I loved Elara and Kade’s story and was sad when I got to the end. Elara is an art thief and Kade and her meet when he’s assigned to help put an end to her thefts. All isn’t as it appears though. I won’t leave any spoilers, but I will say I would give this book more than five stars if I could. Do yourself a favor and grab your copy to see what happens.
I received an advanced reader copy of this book and this is my voluntary and honest review.
