I love books like this so much! It makes me so jealous of people though and makes me wish I had chosen a career that allowed me to travel.

Gillian has truly been everywhere for her job. She’ll be giving a speech at a conference one minute then heading to track the foothills of the Himalayas the next. What a life! I enjoyed reading about all the places she went- I liked both the work parts and the play parts.

I enjoyed her honesty- she was honest when she messed up and when others did, and that’s the beauty of travel. I could not even begin to imagine speaking to audiences that couldn’t understand me but that seemed to be the least of her worries!

Thank you to NetGalley for providing an arc, all views are my own!

Billed as ‘around the world from Boardrooms to Backpacks’- ‘a businesswoman on a whirlwind tour of 43 Countries’

And it does as it states tbh, bringing together the authors stories from these very varied places……from Bangladesh to Hungary and Seychelles to Belgium, Kosovo to Vietnam in amongst many others whilst ( usually ) being a speaker at Conferences dealing with good practice in accountancy ( that is the simple version ) notably a visit to the World Bank is written about

The chapters are written as daily diary entries whilst in each Country and talk about the travel, people she meets, food she has, hotels stays ( and much mention of jet lag )and the work schedules and meetings, alongside this is various mishaps and adventures and sometimes just a great half day sight seeing wherever she finds herself

Within all this is the authors wish for more female representation in the industry she represents and specifically attendees at the Conferences she finds herself at, often being the only female amongst hundreds, also Climate Change affects as sees it are mentioned in a lot of places, cheap fashion and her reaolve not to buy as many clothes as she does is also written about amongst other political of the day concerns

An interesting, quick to read ( took me about 4 hours ) journal that described succinctly all areas of her travel and her schedule and gave good descriptions of her journeys

Enjoyable and avoided ‘look at me’ which can be the case with travel memoirs

Absko r this book! The travel aspect was so interesting and inspiring. It’s so neat to have insight into what it is like to travel globally, especially for someone that is unable to at the moment you feel like your living vicariously through the author
