The narrator and producers for this audio book were phenomenal! Angie Kane did a fantastic job at keeping me in the moment as she narrated Jessa's inner thoughts.
For the book itself, it has a great start but the last 20% of the book gets too convoluted. We also don't get a reaction out of the parents when they come back.
Perfect Girl by Tracey Banghart narrated by Angie Kane This is a great teen Papi Thriller. Jess’s Morgan is having a slumber party the night her mom and dad spend the night away from home but it’s OK because Jessa is the perfect girl who follows the rules and does everything she supposed to.. Her best friend who she’s been fighting with Tiny is coming so is Kelen and Aubrey but what Jessa doesn’t know is they’re not the only ones attending the party. Between her brother Josh and his best friend and jesses crush Ryan showing up along with the strange neighbor David
And it seems to guess keep coming but then the lights go out and Jessa and Ryan ride up to the store to call for help but when they return everyone is gone. There’s another POV of a girl named Bella, Who was supposed to go out with her friends and sleep by Ashley‘s house the two of them made it, but Bella didn‘t. They also periodically mention missing girls from York, a town close to jesses home jess‘s biggest dare was to make a mess and not clean it up she is unfailingly polite to adults and her peers and hates hurting people but when saving her friends is left up to her she doesn’t have to dig too deep to answer the call. I thought this was such a fast paced great Read I really liked the teenagers who usually act older than they are but thought they were portrayed so great in this book.
In the beginning I would’ve never guessed the creepy places this book would go there’s also a ghost named Betty that died years ago but before the book is over her story will come full circle I really liked and thoroughly enjoyed this book I have nothing negative to say about it it really was a good read or listen because I listen to the audiobook narrated by Angie came who I thought did a fabulous job.#NetGalley, #DreamscapeMedia,#Tracy Banghart, #Angie Kane, #perfect girl,
The narrator did a great job at putting so much emotion behind the reading , made me feel like I was actually there. This book is a horror/ thriller. It's very suspenseful, there's so many weird things that are happening. Perfect to listen to if you want something creepy. You could tell its YA but its an easy read if you're new to horror.
Perfect Girl is a fantastically narrated audiobook! Thriller fans will devour the story! Perfect for readers who like just a touch of paranormal in their thrillers. Recommended for all YA collections.
Thank you NetGalley! What a great read. I did not know where this book was going and thought it might end up another way but boy was I wrong.
I think the audio format for this one was on point. Perfect Girl is a YA Thriller/Mystery/Horror that is well written and easy to follow along. Tracy Banghart toggled between "Before" and "After" timelines that added to the suspense of the novel. Banghart did a great job of character development and laying out a timeline that had you on the edge of your seat waiting for the next chapter.
When an intense storm leaves Jessa and her friends without power, in a spooky old murder house, things escalate quickly. There are some unexpected visitors that pop up and the night keeps getting spookier and eventful after we find out a killer who wants to find the "perfect girl" sets his eyes on Jessa. It was like a horror/thriller playing out. There were some points where it seemed like a YA, the teenage thought process and focus on crushes when your life is at stake, but overall, it was a fun, quick thriller/horror perfect for spooky season.
Thank you to NetGalley, Dreamscape Media and Tracy Banghart for the audio ARC of Perfect Girl by Tracy Banghart in exchange for an honest review. Publication Date for Perfect Girl is 19 November 2024.
Firstly, the audio for this was great. It really helped keep me hooked. At first, before I became really familiar with the characters. I struggled in the early chapters to follow the Before/After time jumps, but that is always a me -issue and once you get into the story it resolves quickly.
It's a YA horror/ thriller so it's not huge spooks but it really does have excellent twists and turns. I absolutely devoured it. The characters were all well written- especially David, he had me fooled for a little while there. The fmcs interest in her brother's best friend is a bit overdone and at first, it feels really tiresome and childish but it does pay off in the end, kinda.
Otherwise, just an all-round enjoyable read. I was invested, I liked the plot and the resolution. The writing style is easy and makes it an effortless page turner. Would really recommend.

When a freak storm knocks out the power during a sleepover at Jessa’s eerie, old house, things quickly spiral out of control. Her friends turn on each other, strange visitors arrive (some more unwelcome than others), and the night is filled with more than just spooky surprises. A killer, intent on finding the "perfect girl," has targeted Jessa, forcing her to break free from the rules she’s always followed. To survive the night and protect those she cares about, Jessa will need to leave the good-girl act behind and fight for her life.

This book was SERIOUSLY like a horror movie—and even though it plays with well-known tropes (unsupervised slumber party during a storm in a secluded old house), I was still really drawn in with the plot. Though the main character’s struggle with being the “good” girl felt a little heavy-handed, the mystery of what is going on around the house kept me on the edge of my seat! I also felt like the “Before” sections of the book that have different characters felt a little disjointed, but they are quick and do connect to the story at the end. This is silly, but I also liked that the main character has glasses and wears them proudly because she needs them!! There are a couple of allusions to #ARoseforEmily and even #TheLandlady (or maybe a small reference to #GetOut) so this is a perfect slightly spooky #YA story for students looking for a thriller!
Also—the narrator for this audiobook was AWESOME and did a great performance throughout—it really brought the book to life!
This is a really delightful YA thriller. The characters, as well as their problems, choices, and actions, are pretty on point for teens, and each character is distinct. Jessa is considered the perfect girl, she's got a plan for the rest of her life, doesn't rock the boat, and always makes the decisions that adults would want. Her brother is a chaotic opposite of her. One night her parents decide to go out of town and after Jessa expresses anxiety because local young women have gone missing, her parents approve Jessa to have her three best friends spend the night. A massive storm happens, the power goes out, there is no cell service, and one of Jessa's friends go missing. How can Jessa figure out what has gone wrong and find her friend, even as more and more things go awry?
I enjoyed this book, it was fast paced but not confusing. Very atmospheric and an enjoyable read.
This was quite the read! It is, for lack of better words, perfect for fans of Karen McManus. This book is a fast-paced thriller brimming with unexpected twists. Set in a remote house during a storm, a group of teenagers gathers for what should be a fun sleepover—yet we all know that chaos is just around the corner.
The author skillfully subverts familiar tropes, delivering a story that keeps you on the edge of your seat. The atmosphere is thick with tension, perfectly capturing that eerie "alone in the house" feeling. It's a quick read that masterfully builds suspense, making it hard to put down.
thank you to NetGalley for this audio ARC! Unfortunately, this just did not work for me. This story was incredibly predictable. It wasn’t a bad story, I just felt like I could predict everything that happened, so it wasn’t a particularly gripping story.
That being said, I really liked the narrator! Her voice was perfect for the story.
The Perfect Girl was perfectly thrilling and spooky! Listened during a long drive which this book made fly by!
This is so twisty! I love the kids in this book. I love the whole situation. It should have been an innocent night but these poor kids gets stranded with no power in a haunted house with an abusive boyfriend outside and then somehow it gets so much creepier and twistier! I love the romance too. This was amazing!
Love the narration too!
This was a great one to end Halloween season!! It took me a minute to keep all the characters straight in my mind. But, the narrator did a great job differentiating her voice for each during dialogue. I had fun listening!
Thank you @netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read this amazing audiobook.
I have fallen in love with audiobooks recently, and this book has just developed my love for them even more. It was the perfect read this spooky season.
Perfect Girl by Tracy Banghart and read by Angie Kane was a book that was full of incredible messages for people and specifically women who try to aim for perfection. I, myself, have aways struggled with this, believing that there is a possibility to be the perfect person; whether this being the way I look, talk, think, and behave. Yet, this book uses the idea of trying to achieve perfectionism turning it deadly. I found this extremely clever as it alludes to the fact that perfectionism is an unattainable goal.
I really loved this book. It was entertaining, humorous, creepy and suspenseful. I wanted to listen to it every minute of everyday: the idea of pegging out the washing has never been so exciting. :D
I also gave a huge extra star for representing the girls with the specs. It is shockingly still rare to find books where the main character wears glasses (unless they are wearing contacts throughout the majority of it), while also being described as beautiful. It was honestly such a refreshing read.
It also (very briefly) highlighted societal racism which I appreciated.
Overall, though the plot wasn't very complex and the writing style wasn't a 100% for me, I had a blast and thought it was articulately written. I also think Angie Kane did an incredible job too.
*I received a copy of this book on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for this opportunity*
Super cute, super scary, super fun young adult thriller for the end of this year's spooky season!
Jessa has always played the role of the Perfect Girl. She's known as the teacher's pet, the suck up, and (to her trouble-making older brother) 'Judge Jessa'. But someone has to be the unobtrusive, untroubled, put together daughter, someone has to make the plans and execute them, someone has to keep everything (and everyone) together... and no one else is stepping up to the plate.
When faced with the possibility of being left home alone during a string of kidnappings in the next town over, Jessa petitions her parents to let her have a sleep over with her friends. However, things start to unravel and Jessa's perfect reputation may mean the difference between life and death for them all.
I had such a good time listening to this book! The narrator did an amazing job of capturing each character's individual voice as well as maintaining an incredible level of suspense. PERFECT GIRL felt like the young adult version of a Criminal Minds episode (there was no explicit violence or gore, but it was definitely implied), and maybe that's why I loved it so much!
⭐️⭐️⭐️.75
This was a good YA thriller! I was trying to guess when the twist was going to happen! I love that the author set up the scenario for multiple villains but in the end it was only one.
The romance was cute too. I would read more by this author. I did listen to the audiobook for this one, and I did love the narrator. They were able to change pitch for different characters. I would definitely listen to more books from the narrator.
Thank you Dreamscape Media and Netgalley for this advanced audiobook, these opinions are my own. Continuing my mystery kick! Jessa is little miss perfect, at least that is how her family and friends see her. She is constantly feeling the pressure and when someone makes a remark about how good she is she starts to panic. So she follows the rules why is that a big deal? When her parents go out of town and her brother goes to a friend’s she’ll be all alone in their haunted house. She’s not really creeped out as the ghost haunting the house is friendly. But in a neighboring town girls have been going missing. So her mom agrees to bend the rules and allow her to have friends over. Including Tini the friend that had been pulling away and whose personality and look changed over the summer. That night it storms and they lose power, some unexpected guests show up and some people disappear. Now as Jessa tries to find her friends in the dark she has to deal with the fact that they may not be alone after all. Will they all make it to morning? Can she figure out what’s going on with Tini? Will she be relieved of some of that pressure to be perfect? Thrilling and scary! Angie Kane really sets the scene as she narrates, you’ll feel like you’re with Jessa! The parts about Bella add to the intrigue and mystery! Kept me hooked until the very end!
Binge able but not super memorable…
The end of each chapter left like teeny cliffhangers so you feel like you need to keep going but the story itself was pretty mid.
Jessa, known for her perfection which she comes by through trauma but it’s just kinda glanced over… She is scared to stay home by herself because she thinks the house is haunted so she convinces her mom to let her have her three besties come for a sleepover when her parents leave for the weekend. Power goes out and things get eerie and dangerous.
I guess I just wanted more twists and for the main character to not be so annoying lol
Thanks to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for an alc

Read this book if you grew up the oldest daughter & good girl, if you had an “alternative friend” your parents didn’t trust, or a stalker.
