Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC of Pizza and Taco: Draw Your Own Comic! This is a very well-circulating series and I can't wait to add this to the collection. I love that each chapter has a little 'side quest' activity to complete (like a word search, connect the dots...). The tips are easily understood and simple to follow along. As always, Pizza and Taco make this a great, silly time!

This book is great for aspiring author/illustrators. It teaches graphic novel vocabulary, as well as story elements (characters, settings, etc). It also includes several opportunities for the reader to brainstorm and create their own comic/GN. I wouldn’t purchase this for my school library only because students would want to draw in the book. I would purchase it for my own child.

I have enjoyed the Pizza and Taco books as a series more than I expected overall, but I have to admit that going into a "draw your own" is always a risk for me because my kids never really enjoyed these. They were often disappointed when their favourite author put out a book that had a DIY aspect (journal, drawing, etc.) as the main story because they felt like they had been somehow robbed of the thing that they were most looking forward to. So, I went into this book with a lot of those same thoughts.

What I found was a great book that had some fun story elements and really did a good job of capturing the DIY aspect even as it gave you some more exposure to the characters. There are 50 pages of intro that instruct on how to come up with ideas so that a reader can actually think through their graphic novel before they draw it with some leading questions and panels to get things kick started. That leaves only about 30 pages of "blank" space for mapping out the comic or graphic novel which doesn't feel too overwhelming especially after all the lead in.

And I did like that Taco and Pizza are effectively telling their story of storytelling throughout. I am not sure if my kids would have warmed up to this any more than the previous versions from their youth, but I do feel like it has built on some of the weaker predecessors.

Perfect for reluctant readers, lovers of comics and graphic novels and aspiring artists. Pizza and Taco: draw your own comic is an activity book that features all the Pizza and Taco banter we love while being informative. There are also blank pages included at the end to create your own comic.

This is an instructional book about how to write/draw a comic book. There are some interactive pages throughout with a "make your own comic" at the end.

This was a hit with my 7 year old! She loved the other Pizza and Taco books and this was such a fun way to get her to be creative! She's made her own "book" before but it was mainly her drawing pictures and just writing down facts that she has learned in school. This was a fun way to get her to actually think through a story and she's been wanting to draw and make her comic every free moment she's had since reading this!

Definitely recommended for any first grader like mine who loves to be creative but might need a bit more structure! This gives great tips and suggestions!

Ahhh, there is nothing more Awesome than teaching kids how to make comics!!! I’m not a kid anymore, but I feel like I can still use this book to create a successful comic. I even learned new things by reading this book, and I’m a super avid comic reader!

I thought that the note to the readers that the author has in the book is super sweet! I can feel the enthusiasm the author has for teaching kids how to create comics! I also love that this how to is in comic format, which is perfect for keeping readers immersed and excited to create their own comics! Also, this book has many sections where you can interact and fill in and fill out, it just makes the whole experience more rememberable!

The mix between drawn and real images really keeps the images interesting and alive. And Pizza and Taco are so cute and funny, I never felt bored while reading, they are super engaging and held my attention perfectly while I learned to make my own awesome comic!!

I also really appreciate the section for making your own comic. It’s ample space without it feeling daunting for first timers!! I made my own mini comic after reading this guide. I wish I could post it here as I think it’s quite awesome plus funny, but alas, life is unfair!!

Overall, I think this book is perfect for anyone just getting into comic making! Just because it’s for kids shouldn’t stop you at all, I had a blast with Pizza and Taco!

Thank you to NetGallery and Random House Children's for allowing me to review this book! All my opinions are my own, and I had a blast reading this book!

Pizza and Taco books deserve all the recognition for turning my 6-year-old into a lover of books. We discovered them about a year ago, and now we own them all!

Pizza and Taco: Draw Your Own Comic is different from their previous comics because it’s more of an activity book, and less of a silly story. Of course, we still get some of the hilarious banter between Pizza and Taco alongside informative pages to encourage kids to try making their own comics. Typically, I encourage using the library for quick reads, but this is one that you will want to purchase so you can write directly in the book as you complete the process.

Thank you NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

The popular characters, Pizza and Taco, guide you through an informative how-to book as young readers learn about graphic novel creation. This was much more informative than I expected, but told in graphic novel form, perfect for young readers. I loved the way they casually explain terminology and the illustrations are right there to help with comprehension.

At the end of the book, readers can create their own comic. This was a fun adventure with lots of interactive elements. I recommend this for schools and libraries.

I received an electronic ARC from Random House Children's Publishing through NetGalley.
Shaskan shows readers how to create their own comic book. He uses his characters Pizza and Taco to take readers step by step through the book creation process. I appreciate the simple language and illustrations used to share terminology and techniques. And, of course, their humor shines through their informative text. The author also provides blank pages so by the end, a reader has created their own book. Kudos for encouraging creativity and developing their own plot lines for Pizza and Taco. This could also be a fun project for a family or friends.
