This was such a good book! It did evoke a lot of emotion, a young child has his father die and then he moves to live with his Aunt. When he turns 18, he receives a letter in the mail telling him to go back home, There he learns about his dad and his illness, and a lot more. He gets some closure and it is beautifully written!
Thank you to NetGalley, to the author, and to the publisher for this complementary ARC in exchange for my honest review!!!
Flowers for Papa is a poignant, heartfelt story that explores loss, family secrets, and the journey of healing. The book follows August Johnson, a young man who, after losing one father and being separated from another, receives an unexpected letter calling him home. At eighteen, he confronts the painful memories he’s kept buried, with a surprising companion by his side. I loved how this book captured the depth of August’s emotions and the sense of discovery as he uncovers truths he was too young to understand. It’s beautifully written and left me thinking long after I turned the last page.
Okay, listen up! Flowers for Papa totally stole my heart. Imagine growing up in penguin PJs, only to have your world cracked open with loss, secrets, and a wild reunion road trip at eighteen. August’s journey isn’t just a coming-of-age story; it’s a quest for the truth and closure he never even knew he needed. I couldn't put this one down—it’s raw, real, and hits all the right feels. Definitely a must-read if you like a bit of mystery with a whole lotta heart. 🕊️
