A quick read that needed to be fleshed out more. The characters were interesting and offered a neat story of love, feminism, and a fantastic dash of magic.
The first third of the story was so jumbled it was hard to follow, but eventually it found its stride. Once you get past all the explanations of who everyone is and start to get a rhythm for the timeline, it is a clever tale.
Side note: some reviews are suggesting this is set in Paris, but my understanding is that it is set in Kansas City (thus "Paris of the Plains").
Armored Hours is an enthralling journey set against the backdrop of 1920s Paris of the Plains, where the glitz of the Jazz Age collides with the shadowy undercurrents of power and rebellion. This novel masterfully intertwines historical fiction with whispers of magical realism, creating a world as mesmerizing as it is dangerous. Fans of historical fiction laced with mystery and complex, compelling characters will find themselves captivated. The pacing keeps you on edge, and the subtle hints of romance are perfectly balanced with themes of sacrifice and rebellion. Armored Hours is a must-read for those who appreciate stories where every moment feels both fleeting and significant.
I liked this! It's a new type of fantasy world and it's a really interesting plot. The characters are well developed enough that you are interested in them as well as what's going on.
I've never read anything quite like this. At times I was left wondering what I was reading but the overall experience was a good one.
Part historical, part fantasy and it has a lot of intrigue to carry through the book. I felt a little lost at times but I think overall it's an interesting story with a lot of uniqueness while maintaining great character development and historical accuracy.
This was a strong start to the Reincarnated Souls series, it was a strong start to this series and was able to create a interesting world. The plot was everything that I was looking for and enjoyed the overall concept. I thought Stephanie Hansen had a great writing style and was able to create interesting characters and glad I got to read this. It had that element of a historical romance and worked overall.
Such a good book to read on a rainy cosy evening... loved every single second of this book. I rated it 4 stars and would love to read more books by Stephanie Hansen.
