I wasn't fond of the narrators voices mainly the male narrator but they did a good of bringing From Air and its characters to life.
I enjoyed this story immensely. It blended lighthearted, humor, heartbreak and devastating loss together without them overshadowing each other or bogging down the story. At times it was heavy and emotionally weighty but it never got to the point of being depressing. It was also angsty, truth be told that that angst was a main character. It was so palpable it took on a life of its own.
From Air was an emotional wrecking ball of a read but I loved every moment of it. It was packed with gut punching twists and turns and secrets galore. It was a great read, one I highly recommend.
I have listened to a couple of audiobooks by Jewel E Ann and have always enjoyed them,From Air was no different...In fact I absolutely Loved it !!
This story is a rollercoaster honestly the first part of the book seemed like so much fun Jamie/James and Calvin are Amazing the banter between them is gold.
Then the second part of the book and it becomes more serious and ALL the emotions seep into their story and my heart just ached for them.
Jamie and Calvin meet when Jamie's becomes one of his roommates, she is a psychiatric travel nurse so won't be staying long before travelling to her next job.
Calvin/Fitz is a smokejumper grumpy and standoffish he is a man with a past that he will never disclose. They share a house with 2 other people Will and Maren and the rules are NO Sleeping with any of the roommates.
But Jamie and Calvin are attracted to eachother and their dynamic is a strange one because they verbally Spar at every opportunity, their banter is fantastic witty and fun.
I Love their playfulness with one another and they love messing with eachother, they become friends.
But their friendship is not conventional because a weekend at a wedding changes things. They are now friends who kiss, friends who are intimate with eachother.
They both fall hard and fast but Calvin will not commit, his past won't let him allow anyone into his world.
The chemistry between them just becomes more and more potent as the days go by its delicious to read/listen to...But still Calvin will not go beyond friends with benefits,he has alot of hurt inside him and we discover his story and why he became a smokejumper.
The story is heartbreaking, but Jamie has a heartwrenching story of her own that she discovers unexpectedly, and this could destroy any kind of love they have.
The twist in this book is one I did not see coming and I felt my emotions lose control,my heart was cracking as I listened.
Now the marvellous narration to this book was perfect from Nelson Hobbs and Ada Sinclair and it was their raw emotional performances that had me crying, and then smiling with joy.Their voices are clear and easy to listen too and I loved that they were chosen to bring Jamie and Calvin to life.
Jewel E Ann has written a wonderful love story between two people with pasts that they had no control over...And the change in Calvin by the end of the book is beautiful, because Jamie teaches him how to love.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
Excellent.
5 Stars.
Traveling nurse Jaymes takes a job in Montana and ends up moving into a house full of firefighters—talk about a setup for sparks to fly! This book surprised me with its light and funny start, filled with great banter that had me laughing. While the characters fall for each other quickly, the forbidden romance aspect gives it a slow-burn feel in parts, keeping the tension alive.
Being a Jewel E. Ann book, I expected some emotional twists, and wow, the ending delivered. I was hooked from start to finish, eager to see how the characters would navigate their pasts and find their way forward. A perfect mix of humor, heart, and heat!
I thought the audiobook narrators were great and I appreciated two narrators for the dual POV. I was able to listen comfortably on my preferred audiobook speed easily.
This was my first book by Jewel E. Ann and it will not be my last. The amount of banter, tension, and emotion in this book was nothing short of incredible. The plot twist was incredible and had me sitting here with my jaw on the floor. The connection between Calvin and Jamie had me hooked. They were perfect together.
NARRATION:
This was narrated by Ada Sinclair and Nelson Hobbs. I was extremely impressed with this audiobook and the talent these narrators brought to it. You could feel the emotion of Calvin and Jamie throughout the whole book. Ada and Nelson truly embodied them and it was incredible to listen to.
Thank you so much to Valentine PR, Brilliance Audio and Jewel E. Ann for this ALC/ARC.
WOW! So GOOD.
Synopsis: Jamie is a travel nurse who takes her next job in Missoula. She rents a room in a house where a group of firefighters live and meets Calvin. Calvin is grumpy, closed-off and not looking for love but his chemistry with Jamie is instant. However, there is one rule in the house: to not hookup with a roommate.
Review: There is nothing like getting that five star feeling early on in a book. The blend of found family, healing, angst and emotion was everything in this! I listened to the audiobook and found it amazing and impossible to put down. The narrators did a great job depicting each emotion through the roller coaster of events, and the chemistry was palpable.

This book left me speechless. Such an incredible story. Jayme wants to see the world so she became a travel nurse. Her first position takes her from her home in Florida to Missoula, Montana. She becomes roommates with several local firefighters. One of them is Calvin Fitzgerald. He is a grumpy, sassy, funny one of the bunch. The banter between these to is off the charts. There is one main rule in the house not to hook up with a roommate. So much tension between these two!
🎧 Narrated by Ada Sinclair and Nelson Hobbs. This was such a dynamic duo! I loved their voices and chemistry telling the story.
“Calvin Fitzgerald makes me laugh. He makes me cry. He makes me swoon. He makes me blush. He makes me feel.”
“She’s the fire I will never control. If I let her burn, she can bring new life.”
This was my first book/listen from Jewel E. Ann but after listening to this story I am glad that this was the first book in a new series.
Jamie and Fitz were not supposed to happen. House rules said so. But their banter and cheer eluded to that rule eventually being broken.
Loss can make you beome a shell of yourself. Fitz was a prime example of who someone who structured his lifestyle around past experiences in his life. Jamie was not someone he was expected and she threw his world into a spin.
Jamie's time at the house with Fitz was limited, her work taking her to the west coast. Little did she know that her patients ramblings would lead her down a path she couldn't come back from.
A compelling story covering loss, healing, emotional growth and love. Jamie and Fitz's story was truly an emotional roller coaster that delivered them to where they needed to be.
I will definitely be looking forward to additional work S in this series and from this author.
This was such an emotional book. It packed a lot of punch on many fronts. Can love heal the deep wounds of our past? This was what both Calvin and Jamie had to asks themselves.
I loved the banter between Calvin and Jamie. Jewel E. Ann knows how to write great dialogue and characters with witty banter. They had so much chemistry and heat it was really palpable.
The narration was excellent and really added to the emotional depth of this story.
All and all another stellar Jewel E Ann audiobook.
From Air is a new romance and start of a series from Jewel E Ann. This is a grumpy x sunshine, enemies to lovers, forced proximity (roommates), age gap (10 years), found family, with lots of banter.
Jaymes is a traveling nurse and finds herself moving to Montana when the story starts. She becomes the roommate to 3 other characters, one of which is Calvin. Calvin is a grumpy, smoke jumper and they instantly ruffle each other’s feathers. While one of the house rules is that roommates don’t get together, overtime they find themselves pulled to one another and opening up about their pasts…
This was fine. I wasn’t super pulled into the characters. He definitely has a sad back story, but the rest of their relationship I just wasn’t as invested in. A lot of time in separate places for the last half of the story. I received an audio ALC, all thoughts in this review are my own.
This was so good!! 10/10 stars! I love this author and this book and I can’t wait for the next one. The characters had such great chemistry and I love them
Jamie & Calvin - what a tragic, but so beautiful lovestory.
There are so many twists and turns I didn't expect. They kept me on my toes and I couldn't stop listening to the audio.
A great start for a new series by Jewel E. Ann.
“From Air” is the first book in the “Wildfire” series and also my first Jewel E. Ann book. It will definitely not be the last because I loved it!
Main tropes are:
- forbidden romance
- age gap (10 years)
- grumpy/sunshine
- found family
- opposites attract
- close proximity
- roommates to lovers
- tragic past
Jamie is a traveling nurse that moves in a house full of firefighters. Calvin, one of her roommates, is a grumpy and enigmatic smoke jumper.
From the beginning they flirt and bater a lot. This is a forbidden romance but they do not manage to stay away from each other.
“I’m unsure if I despise Calvin Fitzgerald or if he’s officially my newest obsession.”
“You’re generous. Distractingly mesmerizing. Quirky in a brilliant way. And ineffably beautiful.”
The writing is very beautiful and the characters are complex and loveble. It was great to watch them interact and especially with Calvin to see him open up to Jamie and let her in his heart.
Their story is funny, emotional and tragic.
I also listened to the audiobook narrated by Ada Sinclair, Nelson Hobbs. Even if it is dual narration, they did a great job with all the characters. It made the experience even more emotional, especially with Jamie’s character. I was not able to stop crying at one point.
The book is so good that I finished it in one day (it helped that I could switch between e-book and audiobook).
Now I am (im)patiently waiting for “From Nowhere”.
Thank you Valentine PR and Netgalley for the ARC and ALC. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
This book was so good! I will be honest and say I didn't even read the blurb. I just saw Jewel E. Ann had a new book and went for it. Sunday Morning was my first of hers, and I can say with certainty now that I am obsessed. This one was filled with banter, angst, heartbreak, twists and turns, everything I could hope for in a book. I loved the side characters! All the revelations were timed perfectly. I just can't say enough good things. I'm excited to see who we follow next in the series!
If you like grumpy x sunshine, angst, found family, banter, and firefighters, this one is for you!
Something about the way Jewel E. Ann writes just make my heart so full. The way she sets the story up in order to completely destroy your heart by dropping the biggest plot twist is unbelievable. I loved this so much.
Traveling psychiatric nurse Jaymes Andrews takes a job in Montana and moves in with a group of firefighters. Soon she’s set her sights on the enigmatic Calvin Fitzgerald, a smoke jumper married to his job. What starts as playful teasing leads to more, as Jamie finds herself completely drawn to the tormented Fitz. As the two begin to grow close, despite a housemate rule against it, both will be faced with losing more than they realized they wanted.
Damn. If I could give this book all the stars, I would. From Air is perfect in every way. When I think romance, especially forbidden romance, this is exactly what I envision. While there is angst, there is also so much humor within the banter. There is deep emotion, but also the levity provided by a great group of friends that often try to steal the show (I cannot wait for their books as well).
“You’re an illusion...a distraction. I can’t stop looking at you. And I can’t stop navigating closer to you, even though I know you’re unreachable.”
Jamie and Calvin stole my heart from the start. Both complex, vivacious and lovable characters, I felt an immediate attachment to them and a rooting interest in their outcomes. I am such a fan of that line where enemies and friends intersect and the author walks that line perfectly. These two have instant chemistry that leaps off the page and could at times, set the page on fire. And yet, as their layers are pulled back, and the emotional vulnerability becomes apparent, you can feel the chemistry turn to love.
🎧 I listened In part video audiobook, and the duet narration by Ada Sinclair and Nelson Hobbs was terrific. They really did breathe life into each of the characters and made them their own.
Will I be rereading this book? You know it. Will I anxiously await book number two in the series? Without a doubt. This book is easily a favorite of the year.

Thank you Brilliance Audio for the ALC.
This was amazing. Although I wish there were more firefighting details I loved the book and everything tied together in the end.
Overall, I ended up really enjoying this. I liked the characters and all the twists were entertaining.
I did think there were some pacing issues and there were a little too many coincidences but it didn't stop me from being entertained and enjoying the story.
Also, gotta love a firefighter romance!
And I loved both narrators.
Jewel E. Ann came highly recommended from one of my favorite bookish influencers so I was really looking forward to reading this new to me author. While I didn't love this particular story, I do think I would read more by this author.
I actually really enjoyed the plot line of this book and felt like it brought up some really emotional and relevant topics when it comes to the romance aspect, I just couldn't relate to either character and I borderline hated the MMC. It felt like the relationship lacked any chemistry outside of fun and witty banter and one page they hated each other and the next they were suddenly in love. It did get better towards the end, but overall this book just wasn't for me. I do look forward to giving this author another chance though.
From Air is the first book in the Wildfire series and all I can say is wow. This was my first Jewel E. Ann and I promise you it will not be my last. This story absolutely enveloped me and engulfed me entirely. Ann's writing is absolutely breathtakingly beautiful. The way she crafted this story so intricately, constructed it piece by piece to fit this magnificent masterpiece, absolutely outstanding. This is one of the most angsty, beautiful, heartbreaking, emotional love stories I've read. The spice was unlike any other spice i've read, it was sexy, sensual and classy all at the same time, just chefs kiss 👌
Jaymes is an absolute banging female lead, she's phenomenal. Such a beautiful person, everyone just fell in love with her and her personality. She was such a breath of fresh air, a true sunshine. Calvin (Fitz) was the epitome of a grumpy hero, but Jaymes made him break down his walls and it was the most beautiful sight to see. They both overcame so much and experienced a lot of growth. The twists and turns the author added were just an absolute bonus, I wasn't expecting those and it added another layer to the storyline which I truly appreciated.
Absolutely perfect, there are no other words for how impactful Ann's storytelling skills and writing was. This was just so darn beautiful in every way! Highly recommend!
🎧 The narration by Ada Sinclair & Nelson Hobbs was absolutely perfect. They both played their parts respectfully well. The emotions felt were so insane, I felt the tears, the frustration, it was truly a great performance on both parts.
✨️Thank you to @netgalley, @brilliancepublishing & @jewelleann for my gifted ALC in exchange for an honest review.
I’ll admit, I hesitated to start this book. The age gap romance trope usually doesn’t appeal to me, and I went into it thinking it might not be my kind of story. But from the very first chapter, I found myself completely captivated. Listening to the characters come to life in audio made every interaction feel so much more intense and real.
What really won me over was the way the romance felt both forbidden and undeniably right. The chemistry between the characters wasn't just believable—it was electric. The story delves deep into the reasons behind their connection, making the age gap feel almost secondary to the depth of their bond.
I loved how the narrator brought out the characters' inner conflicts, desires, and fears, giving a rich emotional depth to each scene. The push and pull of their relationship had me hooked, and I was completely invested in every moment. It wasn’t just the romance, either—the pacing, tension, and quiet moments in between made for such an immersive experience.
I ended up adoring this book and am so glad I took a chance on it. If you're on the fence, especially because of the age gap, I’d highly recommend giving it a try. You might just find yourself as unexpectedly captivated as I was!
