I would describe this as the perfect coffee table book, which by no means is a negative and something I find very charming about it. As a huge enjoyer of visiting art museums, namely modern art musuems, the layout and the voice of the book made me feel as if I were reading the descriptive displays set before pieces as you learn about their message and context. The translation of the art works well, colors bold and paintstrokes visible, and it would absolutely be something I would love flipping through while sat on a friend's couch.

Was this poetry? I beg to differ. I assume it has been tagged wrong by netgalley .... Hope others enjoyed reading it anyways

*Dark Chapters* brings together a diverse group of writers and artists to engage with the powerful works of David Garneau, the Métis artist whose still life series blends everyday and culturally significant objects to explore contemporary Indigenous experiences. With contributions from renowned voices like Fred Wah, Billy-Ray Belcourt, and Larissa Lai, this collection offers poetry, fiction, critical essays, and personal reflections that delve into the complexities of colonialism, identity, and reconciliation. Garneau’s evocative paintings, such as "Métis in the Academy" and "Smudge Before Reading," invite deep reflection on the legacies of residential schools and the ongoing impacts of colonial violence. A thought-provoking tribute to an artist who continues to shape the conversation around Indigenous representation.
