This Christmassy cover is what drew me to the book and the synopsis made me want to read it even more. This is the first Jacqueline Front book I have read. Holly doesn't expect to be dealing with murder when she's in Mistletoe for Christmas. However of course when the Christmas tree farmer is accused of murder Holly and all her cohorts are out investigating and trying to clear his name. They come upon funny moments, the community is always supporting her no matter what she is dealing with. This had a great cast of supporting members that all come together to make this is a very good Christmas book.
I read this book in audiobook version and the narrator was great.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the audiobook arc.
Story was ok, I think it was much too long for a cozy mystery. Too much detail. I got tired of listening.
I've been a fan of "A Christmas Tree Farm Mystery" series since the first book, and it's such a joy to see it grow the way it has! I remember after the third book thinking, "How can Frost possibly keep up these stories all happening on a little tree farm?!" But she's done it again! "I'll Be Home for Mischief" not only delivers on the promise of a compelling cozy mystery, but it also shows character development across the board for all of the "usual suspects." I can't recommend this book, and all in the series, enough!
Oh this is like a cozy Christmas hug. It is exactly what I needed to get my reading focus back on track; this lovable town full of holiday cheer and the sweetest characters. I love all the humor infused throughout (thank you Cookie) and also the earnestness of the characters and how much they adore their town and their neighbors. The way they keep going, and going BIG, even with their curse of a Christmas murder each year. There were so may good twists and SO many sweet moments that it really cheered me up. And the dramatic ending WOW it had my heart racing! The gift exchange had me basically in tears in the best way and I cannot wait to (PRETTY PLEASE) catch up with Holly, Evan, and everyone and enjoy more Reindeer Games and hot coco and cupcakes next year!
I love this cozy mystery series! The characters are wonderful and feel like close friends. Holly is always involved in a ton of activities and is always threatened both mentally and physically by the killer. Luckily, her husband is the Sheriff so he can help her out of any dangerous situation. One of my favorite things about this series is that there is a lot of dialogue between the characters to keep the plot moving forward. There is also a good balance between everyday activities and investigation opportunities. This book ended with a feel-good romantic celebration for Holly and Evan’s first wedding anniversary. If you’re looking for a Christmasy cozy mystery, this is the perfect book to read! I listened to the audiobook and would highly recommend it! Allyson Ryan is a great storyteller and uses a different voice for each character which helps to keep the characters straight while listening to the audiobook.
Thank you NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books for the ARC and Dreamscape Media for the audiobook in exchange for my honest review!
*4.5 stars*
I was so so happy to see this series getting a fifth book! This one was by far the best. The characters, the setting, the mystery. I didn’t figure this one out! The ending of the book really got me and what I love about cozy mysteries is everything works out in the end. Definitely pick up this series for a feel good, perfect cozy mystery for the holiday season. Now I want to eat some gingerbread.
"Holy Holly Berries!" It’s that time of year again. Time for a warm drink, a yummy treat, a warm blanket and another cozy Christmas Tree Farm Mystery!
This series has all the quirky characters, small town gossip, reindeer games, and funny puns one can handle. Each book has a new murder mystery that must be solved and the FMC always finds herself in the middle of the mayhem. This year is no exception. The town is celebrating its 150th anniversary. Many activities are planned including trying to break a record for baking the largest gingerbread man. The batter has been mixed and the only thing left is to bake the cookie the next day, but when they return the next day, they discover a dead body in the batter that had been mixed the day before. Many visitors are in town to celebrate and reminisce, including a couple of nosey meddling podcasters who will do just about anything to get a story to grow their social media.
I have really enjoyed this series over the past couple of years and was excited to see there would be another Christmas on the tree farm in Mistletoe, Maine. It is an easy, cute, fun, and silly read that is full of holiday cheer! This is book #5 in the series and continues the story seamlessly from the first 4 books. I would suggest reading them in order but it isn’t necessary.
The narration was superb! Allyson Ryan did an incredible job with tone and inflection and giving each character their own voice and accents which helps bring the story to life. She has narrated the whole series…I couldn’t imagine anyone else narrating. In my mind, she is the voice of Mistletoe, Maine.
I absolutely love this series!! I listened to entire series (rereading the first 4) over the past few days and the narrator is the literal best for cozies! I have loved every single book, it feels so homey and like you’re visiting with good, welcoming friends just reading these. Highly recommend for any cozy lover!
I binged this series on audio a few years ago and was ecstatic when I saw this next installment on NetGalley.
They’re so easy to listen to. Maybe a bit cheesy, but I love the wintry, small town vibes. What better way to get in the holiday spirit than a little romance and a little murder?
I’d like to say I want the town to have better luck around the holidays, but better luck means no more books, and I can’t support that.
Thanks to Dreamscape for approving my NetGalley request!
It’s Christmas time again in Mistletoe Maine. Holly’s Mom is trying to make the largest gingerbread man and break a record. The town has gone with a Victorian theme and invited back to town the descendants of the founding family. Holly White’s first anniversary with Sheriff Evan is approaching. All seems set up for a magical Christmas.
Sadly, there is once again a death. Holly’s natural curiosity has her asking questions even though her parents and Evan beg her to give them the present of her safety this year.
Jacqueline Frost creates a lovely mystery in I’ll Be Home For Mischief. She even has a cameo appearance in the story, which was so fun.
While danger creeps in and gingerbread men are harmed in the making of this mystery, I think you’ll enjoy reading this book. This could be read as a stand-alone, but your enjoyment of the characters will deepen by reading the series.
I enjoyed the narrator, Allyson Ryan.
Thanks to Netgalley and Crooked Lane Books and Dreamscape Media for the opportunity to enjoy this book.
This book was so good!
I hadn’t realized this was part of a series until I started hearing about past incidents but this book can definitely be read as a standalone. Of course you’ll get spoilers for prior books but if you just read this one you're not missing anything.
This is a story of a small town called Mistletoe. There is a woman who finds herself invested in finding out the truth about a crime that occurred. While she is looking into it, you learn about the town and its people.
The way everything was flushed out was really well done. I can’t give away spoilers but the reveal was great. It wasn’t so much of a twist as just finding out who did it based upon conclusions that were inevitable. Nothing shocking.
Overall a great book. Kinda cozy mystery. Now I want to read the rest!
I’ll Be Home for Mischief is the fifth book in Jacqueline Frost’s Christmas Tree Farm mystery series. Life is good but hectic for Holly White Gray. Between working at her family Christmas Tree Farm Reindeer Games, helping her mother in the the Hearth cafe, running her own craft jewelry company both online and with various local merchants, managing the family’s inn on the property, and juggling the home in Mistletoe she shares with her husband of almost a year, Sheriff Evan Gray, as well as the manager suite at the inn, she is beginning to feel the stress of the coming holidays. Add in the 150th anniversary of Mistletoe’s founding, the coming visit of members of the founding family to the inn for the town’s celebration, and her mother’s bid to bake the largest recorded gingerbread man for the Guinness book of records, and Holly is one tired young lady.
But the tiredness is a small price to pay for the joy of the season. However, when one of the guests of honor is found dead in the cookie batter the stress of the season is amplified and the danger is real. As Holly with her unfettered curiosity begins asking questions she walks into the crosshairs of a killer. The more she discovers, the more danger Holly is in.
This is a fun cozy mystery with well drawn characters in a scenic wintry setting with a twisted plot. I very much enjoyed this book, as I have this series and I do recommend it!
This is a very humourous cozy mystery about a lady who is a detective and goes home for Christmas. It has good writing and if you like to hear about podcasts and how much she hasn't had a mystery to solve in awhile then you will like this book.
My thanks for the audio ARC goes to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media. I'm voluntarily leaving a review.
Genre: Holiday Mystery, Cozy Mystery, Mystery
Spice Level: Nothing spicy on the page
Language: A handful of minor curses
Readability: There are references to previous books, but it's easy to pick this up and read this one as the first.
I'LL BE HOME FOR MISCHIEF is firmly slotted in the cozy category. The sleuth, Holly White (who is married to the detective), is up to her old tricks and trying to solve a murder to give resolution for the family.
I absolutely cringed when the murder turned up on the page—way to go to the author! This town is adorable with their Christmas theme. And everyone in the town gets along so well. The side plots of trying to achieve world records, find the perfect present, and developing more reindeer games was fun too. I always like the murder side in cozy mysteries—this one was good. The solution is logical, which is something I always appreciate.
Happy reading!
A nice sweet Christmas read/listen just to get you in the season. There were a few times I got frustrated with Holly but overall enjoyed the story. The narration was great.
I'll Be Home for Mischief is book 5 in the Christmas Tree Farm series, in my opinion it can be read as a standalone but I recommend reading the series in order. I do not feel as if I missed out on a lot by not reading 1 thru 4 first but I enjoyed this one so much and I think I'd have enjoyed them all.
Mistletoe, Maine is a nice little town known for its Christmas happenings and for its 150th season they're going all out to make it special. The Founding Family is coming back for their first visit in many years to help celebrate. Why has the Founding Family been gone from Mistletoe for so many years? You're going to have to read up to find out.
Thank you to NetGalley, Dreamscape and the author for the opportunity to read and review this story. Allyson Ryan did a wonderful job at bringing this story to life with her narration. I highly recommend this book if you love a cozy Christmas Murder Mystery.

This series just gets better and better! I loved getting to spend more time in Mistletoe with Holly and her new husband, Evan, her family and friends, and the myriad of Christmas-themed activities they have prepared for the guests of the town. The mystery was fascinating and had me guessing until the end. Their housing situation made me very anxious but I am glad it all worked out in the end. Hoping for many more in the series!
Absolutely one of my favourite cozy mystery series and this fifth ‘Christmas Tree Farm Mystery’ is just as magnificent as all the rest!
Jacqueline Frost tackles murder and mayhem with a healthy dose of heartwarming and humour which makes me love these Mistletoe, Maine characters even more. I mean, who wouldn’t want Cookie and Theodore front and centre in their life?! And all the romance swirling around in this winter wonderland? Does my romantical heart so much good!
So, definitely a series that I think should be read in order — not only for the character arcs and relationship building, but for the sheer festive ambiance which the author makes fresh and exciting with each new book. Her Reindeer Games ideas are phenomenal and the way she portrays small town life with a Christmas-centric world view is sweet perfection.
And, while Frost is brilliant at infusing her stories with cozy vibes, she has an uncanny…and slightly disturbing (if you think about it too long)…way of introducing the murder. Let’s just say, ‘unique presentation’ and leave it at that! Bwahahaha!
Add in a solid mystery with enough suspects to keep this armchair sleuth on the edge of her seat, some very clever nods to the author, and the hint of Christmas magic (I’m a believer) and you end up with a holiday treat of a read.
I listened to the audio edition narrated by Allyson Ryan — eeeeeeppppp!!!!! — one of my all time favourite voice performers. She brings such heart to these characters and I can tell she’s relishing their antics just as much as I am. It felt like I was reading a cherished Christmas novel with a kindred spirit. Enhanced my ‘reading’ pleasure that much more!
My thanks to the publisher, Dreamscape Media and Net Galley for providing me with an audio edition of this book.
I love a good cozy mystery. 🥰 the narration was great on this one plus the setting was super cozy small town vibes. I really enjoyed the storyline and totally obsessed with the cute cover. 😍 def recommend this one for a cozy holiday read.
