I didn’t have the opportunity to read the second book in the series before starting the third but I followed the plot pretty well. I found the start to be quite confusing and had a hard time following at first. I also thought it was a strange for the queen’s heart mate to start the book by saying he wanted to get her pregnant. It really pulled me out of the story. I look forward to reading other books by this author.
Thank you to RBmedia and NetGalley for the advance listener copy of The Shadows Rule All!
This is the final installment in the Dominions trilogy and it is a great end to the series! Meren and the gang are back together and working to defeat Eidolon and release the queens from their necklaces. But not all of the friends can be trusted, especially not Meren herself as it is impossible to tell how much the shadows trapped within her are reporting back to Eidolon. Can Meren, Reven, and company save the Dominions? Can they survive trying?
I really enjoyed this series. I've said it in every review but the world building is just INCREDIBLE! The magic is so interesting and unique; I just love it so much. I wish Meren would get out of her own head so much. Her constant agonizing over her every decision has made me knock a star off each book. I read the first book with my eyes and listened to the last two and I think it is something that I noticed and was annoyed by more with the audio so it may be a "me" issue to a certain extent. I also feel like Reven is super boring and the romance is meh in the series. But those are really my only two complaints. It is a gripping fantasy and I can't wait to read more of Abigail Owen's books!
The narration by Samara Naeymi is PHENOMENAL!!! I will definitely be looking for more books narrated by her.
Rating: 5/5
I received an eARC & audio for my honest opinion.
WOW, this is the way that you end a trilogy. I have been here for all the books, and I can say that I loved that the author was able to wrap up everything nicely, but not only that you will find the action scene that we have all been craving to happen. I enjoyed the plot, and it was different from the other books, but in a good way for me. It is a little darker, but if you have read the first two you will understand why it's darker, we get more information about Eidolon and why he is the way he is. I loved that we got to see more with Meren and Reven relationship in a different way and to truly understand their love for each other, I loved the twists that Owen took in the plot as well (if left me on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next), it has a lot of emotions throughout the book from different characters, the paranormal creatures were right out of an mythology and I was drinking them all in.
This book picks up right where book 2 left off but a few months later, you get to see how they’re handling everything that happened at the ending of that book, and you will see the goals that they planned for the next steps in taking back their kingdom from an evil man. I really enjoyed getting to see the characters come together more but at the same time you will see the spaces that they have to make with certain characters ( I wont say more because I don’t want to spoil anything), I liked the character growth that most of the characters made in this last book and I think it was more that they were understanding themselves more and knew what they wanted and what was right when fighting. You will find loyal friends, mystery, secrets, betrayals, funny moments and heartbreaking ones, but overall, you see the love that all these friends have for each other and their country.
For me it was Meren and Revens relationship that really got tested in this book, you will understand what I mean when you pick up this book. Their love for each other was something so beautiful, but at the same time you can see that it might just fall right out of their hands if they’re not careful. I loved all the characters in the book/books but for me it was Meren and her connections to her friends that really help draw this group together… okay I guess with Reven too lol.
I was able to receive the audio for this book as well and I loved that the narrator was able to get to picture the action scenes in my head and seeing them being played out and I know a lot of that has to do with Owens attention to details but it also because of the way the narrator was telling the story with her emotions that really brought it out. I would read a book by this narrator again and I would recommend this book and audio to everyone.
I want to thank NetGalley and RBmedia for the opportunity to review this book.
The Shadows Rule All
Meren starts this book as Queen while her sister is unconscious. She is on a journey to free Reven, defeat Edilon by finding all of the amulets, and handle the new responsibilities of Queen out of the shadows.
I was glad to know this was the conclusion of the series as my heart can’t handle another cliffhanger! However, I’m left wanting more for sure.
Digging more into the shadows and an understanding that they were really in charge all along. We learn more about Eidolon and this book has Tabra playing her biggest role. Reven wakes up and thinks that he he’s just been created as a shadow with no memory of Meren, so they go through trying to reconnect and help get his memories back.
Compared to the first two, this conclusion is more dark and more battles, as to be expected. Overall, great book and great series !
Thank you to NetGalley and RBMedia for the ALC in exchange for an honest review. Release date 11/12.
wow, that was a rollercoaster ride to complete this trilogy! Great job Abigail! Fantastic series!
Thank you NetGalley and RB Media for the opportunity to listen to this ARC.
If I could give half ratings I'd give this a 4.5 star rating. It was just a little shy of a 5 star for me. I truly have been enjoying audios more and this audiobook was fantastic. I loved the story, I now need to go back and read the first two and then do a re-read of this book but all in all i really liked this fantasy book. The storyline was so well written!! I'd recommend for sure.
I enjoyed this book overall. The beginning was confusing to me, and slightly difficult to follow but I understood more as the book continued on. Overall, enjoyable.
I really liked this one! I have been a fan of this series from the beginning so I was very excited to dive into this book and see how the trilogy would wrap up. I feel like I have been through a lot with this group of characters at this point and just want things to work out for them. I found this novel to be a fitting and exciting end to the trilogy.
I wasn’t sure how Reven and Meren would work things out. Things look rather dire at the start of this story and the characters seem to be thrown into one impossible situation after another throughout the book. This book had plenty of action to keep things moving along and there were quite a few times that I was worried about the safety of some of my favorite characters. I love the way that Meren has grown over the course of the series into the leader she needs to be in this installment.
Luis Moreno and Samara Naeymi did a fantastic job with the narration of this book. They were both able to bring the story to life through their use of various voices to represent the key characters and by adding just the right amount of emotion to their reading. I thought that their voices complimented each other very nicely and had no problems listening to this book for hours at a time. I am certain that their performance added to my overall enjoyment.
I would not hesitate to recommend this trilogy to others. I would definitely recommend that this trilogy be read in order since each book builds on the events in the previous installment. I found this book to be a fitting end to the trilogy as a whole. I cannot wait to read more of this author’s work in the future.
I received a review copy of this book from Entangled Teen and Recorded Books.
I was lucky to receive an advanced copy of this the other day through netgalley, but had not read the other books in the series before, so I’ve spent the weekend binging the series & finished this one just in time for its release day tomorrow! I genuinely enjoyed this entire series! I’ve been in a slump of just ok or just plain not good books lately but this entire series was a solid 5 stars all the way. It’s just such a perfect fantasy series! There’s action, magic, romance, brilliant world building, and an amazing cast of characters! If you like ACOTAR or One Dark Window, you’ll definitely enjoy this series & this book in particular!

Book: The Shadows Rule All
Author: Abigail Owen
Rating: 5 stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
The most perfect ending for an amazing series, even though I'm still sad & emotionally destroyed by it.
There were lots of times with this one I was like "how are they going to make it out of this one?", and I believe the author did an amazing job with where she took the story.
The amnesia part of this one was rough as I finally got the connection I was hoping for, with the two main characters, but it definitely added a gut wrenching aspect to the story.
You get:
• Romantasy
• Epic Battles
• Amnesia
• Shadow Daddy MMC
• Bond Mates
• Murder & ☠️
• Good VS Evil
I will miss this series & I highly suggest you pick it up! Available on ebook, hardcover, and audiobook Nov 12th.

The Shadows Rule All by Abigail Owen
💜
This was the perfect ending to a great YA romantasy series! I loved the deep dive into Eidolon’s origin story, because it made him a much more sympathetic villain. This book is darker than the first two, but it was necessary for the plot and the character growth of Meren and Reven. They have been through so much, and the entire world seems to be conspiring to keep them apart; their yearning for each other is unmatched. This book is packed with action, danger, and devastating losses. The ending was bittersweet, but I felt like it fit the series perfectly. I was lucky enough to receive and ALC as well as an ARC, and let me just say that the dual narration was completely amazing. Samara Naeymi does an excellent job voicing Meren and vibrantly bringing the story to life. And Luis Moreno was the perfect choice for Reven. His voice was deep and growly and exactly what I wanted. If you want an excellent YA romantasy trilogy, I definitely recommend this one!

Thank you to Entangled Teen, NetGalley, and Abigail Owen for the ARC. I received an advanced copy for free, and am leaving this review voluntarily.
This was the best book of the trilogy by far. I loved seeing how each of the characters came together in the plot.
Beware there is not an HEA for all characters.
I do wish we got to see more of Tabra’s POV. For a book based around the idea of twin queens, it felt like a disservice to only get the POV from the “body double” queen. Maybe a spin off idea?
4 stars
TW; gore, torture, death, murder, betrayals, kidnapping
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher, as well as RBMedia, for a recorded copy to review. All thoughts are my own.
I really liked the concept of Dominions from the beginning, and I admit that the sequel fell a little flat for me, so I didn't intend to complete this series. However, I'm glad I picked up an ALC of the third and final installment because The Shadows Rule All concluded this world really well for me.
I enjoyed the perilous journey Meren and her group of warrior friends undertake to fight against Eidolon's disastrous plans. Whilst some of it dragged a little, it built the stakes and tension toward the final battle, and I appreciated the return of loyal characters supporting this story as well as greeting new ones along the way. Meren also goes through a great deal as the main protagonist, from her newly acquired shadows to dealing with Reven's changes in her world and heart, and facing doubt from others at her ability to lead as Queen of Aryd, she's really busy and evolves in many ways. I liked that she isn't always knowledgeable about plans or bossing her way through everything. It made her feel more realistic.
I will say the romance portion of the story wasn't my favourite this time. I always liked Reven and his shadowraith abilities, and for most of this book, he's working through some changes that occurred to him that almost make him a stranger to Meren. I'm glad in the end they get back to their strong unit, but for a long portion of this read, their back and forth with feelings and passion got a little repetitive. This is a small critique, however, and there were also moments between the pair to enjoy.
This was hard-hitting in the feels for deaths of characters, and whilst I knew one, in particular, would happen, I was devastated when it predictably played out. There was a lot of action in the last portions of the book and adrenaline was high, so this is where I'll really commend the narrator for getting those emotions across in the audiobook because I was often on the edge of my seat listening as things played out. I also liked Meren's mild accent. This is my first time listening to this particular narrator, and any of the books in this series, and whilst it threw me initially, I really came to enjoy how this was recorded.
Overall, I'm so glad I decided to give this world another chance and see how it wrapped up. It was a great ride, one that I'm still thinking about days on from finishing it. I cannot wait to read more from Abigail Owen now.
I have been a fan of Abigail Owen since stumbling on Liar's Crown and Stolen Throne and was SO THRILLED to get this third. This is a steamy romantasy with magic, shadow boys, princess switches, assassins, and magic. highly recommend and start from the beginning!
Thank you to NetGalley for this audiobook ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Full disclosure this is the third book in the dominion trilogy and I did not read the first two. However, I don’t feel that that in anyway took away from my enjoyment of this book. I was able to catch on rather easily what happened in the other books on the grandscale of things and allowed me to get invested into the characters and the ongoing in this book.
Now had I read the previous books. There is a chance that I would have rated this even higher than I did, but it’s too late now as I had requested the book and didn’t pay attention to that fact! The one thing that was evident is that the author built such a wonderful world to really get absorbed into , where in this book you can see everything coming to fruition. The characters are so rich and descriptive even in the final book so I can imagine in the first two books that they had been written to set up what we were getting in the third.
I will say this is not meant to be able to be read as a standalone. You definitely do want to go read books one and two first which I am going to do subsequently.
I listened to the audio ALC and the narrator did a great job with the recitation. She didn’t overly dramatize anything. She read the book with just enough passion that you could form pictures in your own mind and weren’t affected by how she was saying things, however she did make it exciting enough to want to keep on listening . I listened at 1.75 times the speed rate because that’s where it was comfortable for me.
I am thankful to have gotten the Audio ALC for free from Netgalley and Entangled Publishing to enjoy which gave me the opportunity to voluntarily leave a review.
This title comes out on November 12, 2024.
My rating system since GoodReads doesn’t have partial stars and I rarely round up.
⭐️ Hated it
⭐️⭐️ Had a lot of trouble, prose issues, really not my cup of tea (potentially DNF’d or thought about it)
⭐️⭐️⭐️ Meh, it was an ok read but nothing special
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Really enjoyed it! Would recommend to others
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Outstanding! Will circle back and read again
The first book is what hooked me and this series just is chefs kiss Very epic conclusion in The Dominions series. To best enjoy the story, it's better to read all 3 books in order. This book was a page turner for many reasons - secrets unveiled, epic battle scenes....very robust story and wrapped up the series very well. If you've read the series, you'll be very pleased with the way it is concluded.
The Shadows Rule All was a fantastic read! I just love Reven and Merens love. Meren is back and trying to figure out how to defeat the shadow king and unit the people. Throughout the story she hits road block after road block and loses some people along the way. In beautifully written fashion she and her people find the strength to persevere and build a new life. Five stars!
“The Shadows Rule All” is the last book in the “Dominions” trilogy.
The reading order is:
1. The Liar’s Crown
2. The Stolen Throne
3. The Shadows Rule All
I binged this series in a week in audio and loved it.
Samara Naeymi is doing a great job narrating multiple characters. I would have liked to have more chapters from Reven’s POV.
In the beginning of this book we finally find more about Eidolon’s past. Meren continues to sacrifice a lot for others and fights to protect Tebra.
My heart broke for her every time she felt happiness only for something bad to happen again. She is very strong and can handle a lot. But I liked that Tabra had a bigger role and we can also see her character development.
The other characters are also well developed and are an important part of the action.
The situation between Meren and Reven was a bit repetitive and I am not a fan of what happened with him. Still, I love all the interactions between them.
This book is even darker than the previous ones, with a fast pace, twists, betrayals, magic and adventure.
The ending had some unexpected situations and was full of action and tension.
Overall I enjoyed this series and I want to read more books from Abigail Owen.
Thank you Netgalley and RBmedia for an advanced copy of the audiobook. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
This was everything a finale should be, and then some 🥹 It was an intense ride! My poor little heart broke over every loss, but they were necessary to the journey. These characters became friends through this 3 book adventure, and they'll live rent-free in my head forever.
The conclusion of The Dominions trilogy is finally (almost) here! This was definitely different than I was expecting, but in a great way. I devoured this (no pun intended, iykyk) in like a day! This book was much darker and deadlier than the first two books, which was an interesting change of pace. Meren and Reven’s story also took a different turn, but I enjoyed seeing how things played out between them. The ending absolutely devastated me, but was also a pretty satisfying conclusion. I do wish some things played out differently, but overall I’m very happy with this book.
Thank you Entangled for the opportunity to listen to the ARC audiobook!
