Whisk Me Away is a beautiful and unique cookbook. The publisher, Shadow Mountain, began in 2012 publishing its Proper Romance series which are wholesome and clean romances. The first novel was Edenbrooke, by Julianne Donaldson. It was so popular that even my book club read it as a selection. The cookbook begins by focusing on different romance eras, Regency, Victorian, Steampunk, and American West. It includes menus and recipes that could be served at tea, dinner parties and more. It also comes with notes on etiquette, games, and clothing styles. And lastly each page has small quotes from the Proper Romances. I was surprised how many I have read. The cook book continues with a category called Celebrations which include meals for Valentine’s Day, Road Trip, Luau, Harvest and Christmas.
The pictures are beautiful and in color. The directions seem straightforward. I am not a great cook and prefer cookbooks with photos of the steps in the process of making recipes and not just the completed feast. This will appeal to romance readers who like to cook. And if you read Shadow Mountain Proper Romances this will have an extra connection.

There's a lot to love about this new cookbook! If you've read one or all of the Proper Romance books from Shadow Mountain Publishing, you'll enjoy the quotes and recipes from all of the books. And if you haven't yet read books in the Proper Romance line, you can still enjoy the cookbook and the yummy variety of foods included., and you might want to pick up one or all of the books after reading the quotes.
The cookbook was divided up into several different sections and I was really impressed with how it was organized. The colored pictures were beautiful and had me wanting to try out all of the recipes. The recipes themselves were easy to follow.
Something fun about this cookbook is that it includes ideas for hosting parties or your own little soirees. And to help with that there were fun tidbits included about dress for each era, etiquette, and much more. I really liked seeing and studying the epigraphs included. And now I think it's time that I pick several of the recipes, plan a party and bake my little heart out so my friends and I can enjoy these yummy foods!
I received a copy from the publisher, Shadow Mountain Publishing, via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.
Happy Reading & Baking!!!

A delightful romp into the regency cooking. I have read almost all of the books referenced in this cookbook. I loved the quotes that went with it, the categories that she had and the recipes looked amazing! Such a fun book!

Absolutely beautiful presentation. Can't wait to try everything in here! Would make a great gift, especially for Proper Romance readers.

I loved this cookbook! I loved all the different recipes and that it incorporated quotes from the different Proper Romance books. I loved how it had different themes and it also gave some fun facts about the time periods featured. I also loved how easy the follow the recipes were. I also loved the color photos. I thought this cookbook was well put together and would be wonderful for anyone trying to plan a special event.
I received a complimentary book from publishers, publicists, and or authors. A review was not required and all opinions and ideas expressed are my own.

I love the introduction to this book. I also love that Shadow Mountain Publishing made the wise and wonderful decision to start publishing wholesome romances in 2012. Edenbrooke was the novel that got me back into reading after many years of neglect (family and all that).
This beautiful romp through time cookbook is stunningly gorgeous, has great recipes and fascinating tidbits of the different time periods. The photographs are exquisite and each page holds a quote from some of my favorite proper romance novels.
Some of my favorite recipes are from the Regency Era, (which happens to be my favorite era to read). The tea sandwiches and decadent dips are perfect for any celebration or sitting in a cozy chair reading a good book. The Victorian Era, with its scrumptious scones and delightful dinner parties. Steam Punk has a more modern feel of baked lemon salmon and beef stroganoff. The American West gives me the Let’s go camping vibes, the great outdoors and campfire delights with Chili and cornbread. Finally the Celebrations Chapter, oh my! Plan a themed party and you are covered. Valentine’s day, Harvest, Christmas, Hawaiian luau, or weekend road trip. This book covers every season, Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter. I have tried a few of the recipes and they were all a big hit. I can’t wait to try them all. If you are looking for the most gorgeous, useful, plus entertaining book for your shelf, this is it! I loved the Proper Romance Titles at the end. I have read a good share of them and now have more to add to my growing TBR shelf. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Regency Romance readers- this is the book we have all waited for! Filled with quotes from different novels, recipes that are simple and easy to follow. Tips for gatherings, party games and dressing guides from the different era's are also present making this the perfect book to host your own themed party! I am excited to try some of these recipes and may even have to play a game or two! Definitely recommend this cookbook for any fan of regency romance or hosting in general!

This Cookbook make my historical fiction heart so happy! The pictures and drawing are so beautiful. This is a must have for your kitchen shelf. The recipes are simple but delicious. There are so many cute little facts about time periods fashion and edict. I love how they organized the recipes by types of meals.
I can't wait to buy this book physically, since I read it through my ipad. I need a physical copy of this for sure. And it is a great gift to give to someone who loves historical fiction books.
Thank you to the authors and publisher for the review copy. All opinions are my own.

Whisk Me Away was such a fun to look through and read It has fun facts and games for different time periods. The recipes look delicious. I can't wait to make them. I loved the quotes from favorite Proper Romance books sprinkled throughout. This is a fun addition if you are a fan of the Proper Romance line from Shadow Mountain or if you love history.

The recipes in this book seem really great, and I like the concept of the cookbook but I think it could've benefited from recipe descriptions. Though I prefer cookbooks with more recipes, the photos are really well done. I loved the concept and the layout of the book! The book would've been even better if the recipes were taken out of romance books, and the quotes matched the recipes.

Romance novel tropes meets cookbook is such a unique take on a recipe book! It has great recipes and information about the era that is very interesting too.

This is the best themed cookbook I have ever seen. Blending a romance novel + cottage core + delicious recipes, this is the cookbook I want to get lost in.
WHISK ME AWAY is a cookbook that divides the recipes up by era and function, lending the cook to find what recipe should be used when attending a high tea during the Victorian era or what to wear to a steam punk party.
Adding to the cutesy little charm of the book are small bits of manners and tips that were relevant to that day. I really found myself refreshing my own ways of hosting parties after reading a few of the brief notes, like the American West tips for setting up a buffet.
What makes WHISK ME AWAY stand out from any other cookbook I have read is the way history is utilized. As with many cookbooks, WHISK ME AWAY includes brief blurbs about the history of a recipes or the history of the time in which the recipe was written, but WHISK ME AWAY goes a bit further into the the completeness of this cookbook. It includes timelines, games that were played, and the notable novels of the time. There are so many little additions like this that really make this book so adorable and so lovely.
Quotes from romance novels along side with each recipe, which made me swoon a little with each recipe. It felt like getting a recipe from a friend with a note telling me about the next book I had to read.
The book only has measurements in volume/imperial measurements, which will make anyone who bakes by weight have to convert all the recipes.
The design and pictures used for this book are top notch- it's gorgeous and really feels like an antique cookbook that I'd find at a magical book shop.
Overall, this is a must cookbook for me and I can't wait to have it on my shelf!

Blending romance novels with themed recipes, all organized by historical era and packed with fun trivia, is such a creative concept! I appreciated the choice to pair each recipe with a literary quote, and the fact that all the book titles are compiled at the end as reading recommendations is a nice bonus. The photography is beautiful, and the index and concept guide make everything easy to navigate. I do wish there were more vegan-friendly recipes, but overall, it's a fantastic book!

Love It!!! Although the récipes are (for me) quite familiar, the book also offers historical insight and a list of romance reads to enjoy along with your food.
The book is really nice, beautiful pictures and illustrations. It would make a pretty table book or an amazing gift for a romance lover.

This is an incredible themed cookbook!! Wow! This cookbook is divided into time periods, eras, and locations (Wild West, Hawaii, Victorian, Regency, etc., and even Steampunk) and then the recipes for each time period is divided into meals (tea, breakfast, luau, western BBQ, a dinner party, to name a few). The concept of this cookbook is founded on the publisher's Proper Romance series, which range beginning in the Victorian era through the Pioneer/Wild West era. There's an introduction to each era and then an index of which meals will be included for that era. Then each meal is introduced with a stunning photo spread of that meal from that covered era. There are some accompanying photos for each recipe but, unfortunately, not every single recipe. Some recipes are included in the main photo spread, and some (though only a few) I just didn't see a photo for at all. Each recipe has easy-to-follow instructions, easy-to-find ingredients (at most large, well-stocked grocery stores), and some notes or variations for each recipe (however, the notes were included at the very, very bottom of the page for the accompanying recipe and I actually lost them a little bit when there was a lot of white space on the page and wish they were instead located at the very end of the recipe with the variations instead of separately). Each meal includes everything from appetizers to a main course to beverages to sides and salads, although those that are included vary for each time period and each meal. Throughout the book there is also background information, fun facts, games for that time period, and other fun tidbits for the accompaying era the recipes are focusing on, as well as quotes from the Proper Romance books which take place in that same time period (including a few new books which are slated to be published later this year). Some of the quotes even relate directly to the recipe they're included with (for example, if cheese is mentioned in the quote and it's also in the recipe, ha ha). This is a very beautifully laid-out, well-designed cookbook. The recipes seem simple, not overly basic or overused from other cookbooks (which are both complaints I've had about some recent cookbooks I've been excited for) and also not crazy advanced, meaning the every-day cook/baker should easily be able to make them without feeling overwhelmed and, as mentioned, with easy-to-find ingredients. As I've seen that there have been local (Utah/Idaho) Regency events (though I have never attended one), I could picture some of these games and teas and treats being served at these "re-enactment" events. This would be a great Book Club cookbook to use for an event focusing on one of the books from the Proper Romance series or a Jane Austen or other period author! I definitely will be purchasing a physical copy of this book for myself and would love to make a lot of the dishes for myself at home!! For a first cookbook, this author impressed me with the layout, design, photos, and included recipes. Even the index is categorized very well, by not only ingredients and recipe name but also including the time periods/eras and the facts, games, etc. Bravo, Shadow Mountain and Michelle Wright!! Bravo!!

This has great recipes, pictures, and illustrations. I really love this and will definitely be making some of these recipes in the future.

"Whisk Me Away" is a cookbook based on an interesting premise: it promises recipes inspired by Proper Romances by the same publisher. I'm a fan of Shadow Publishing romances, and a keen amateur cook and baker, so I couldn't wait to leaf through this cookbook. Funnily enough, the first-ever novel that Shadow Mountain Publishing published back in 2012, Edenbrook, was the first modern Regency romance I read and what got me hooked to this genre. I have since read hundreds of Regency romances!
Historic trivia and fun facts about food traditions make this cookbook even more interesting. What's original is that the cookbook is peppered with historical timelines, etchings of historical dresses, lists of notable novels published during a specific era, card games, etc. It's a little unusual for a cookbook, but it does work — it makes the reader want to read the whole book from start to finish, rather than just leaf through. I didn't really see the point of including extracts from the romances in the cookbook though.
The entire book is 200 pages long but it feels like less!
The recipes were a little more modern than I expected (e.g. hummus probably wasn't known by British Victorians). However, they would work great for, for instance, a history-inspired tea party or book club reunion. I also thought the recipes would be inspired by mentions of these specific delicacies in Shadow Mountain Publishing books, which wasn't necessarily the case.
I always appreciate cookbooks with plenty of photos, and I was happy to see most if not all recipes illustrated. I also love the title and cover!

The different recipes are so fun, and the connections throughout to the different time periods make it even more fun!

Background:
This cookbook is separated into the themes of Regency Era, Victorian Era, Steampunk, the American West, and other celebrations.
Thoughts:
I am more of a baker than a cook, but I found many of the recipes in the cookbook to be approachable with my cooking skill level. I enjoyed all of the fun facts, games, and history lessons associated with the various time periods as well. This book is an excellent resource for anyone who likes to host parties, even if they are not much of a romance enthusiast. I'm very excited to try out many of the recipes that I found in this book.

A stunningly beautiful cookbook that provides far more enjoyment beyond recipes! A perfect combination of stories, beauty, and history that would make a perfect coffee table book! There are so many recipes I want to try for hostessing or my own enjoyment!
