Summits edge.

This one kept me on the Edge. The whole time. A rescue deep in the mountains in Colorado. A highjacker, a down plane.
I simply love this series. The Dogs have my heart. ❤️ I love books with dogs.
So so intense. Loved every minute of this book. Have read several books by this author each are unique in its own way. Simply perfect story's.
Get ready for a bumpy intense ride.
A definite page turner.

As long as there’s hope of finding life, no mission is too dangerous for Meg Jennings and her colleagues in the FBI K-9 unit. But locating the wreckage of a hijacked private plane high in the Elk Mountains of Colorado is treacherous in a multitude of ways. The plane, carrying the board of directors of Barron Pharmaceuticals, crashed on a rocky peak and was cleaved in two. Perilous weather means the rescuers have to ascend on foot, with their dogs unleashed in case of falls.
I decided not to bother starting from the first book in the series and just dived into this ninth one. It was obvious from the start that the characters had backstories and established relationships that I’d missed out, but that didn’t deter me from enjoying the story as it was.
The audiobook was narrated well, with clear pronunciations and dynamic tones, which helped me understanding the guidelines and policies, and absorbing the story in no time. And it shouldn’t have been a surprise for me given the narrator was none other than the voice of siri!
Not gonna lie, the dogs were the main reason I picked this up. The mystery itself took a secondary focus for me, as I was completely hooked by the procedural details of the search and rescue, involving both human and animals. It was fascinating to follow the bond between Meg and Hawk, and how Meg was always ready to protect Hawk and vice versa.
The names of the victims (and the hijacker) blurred in my mind, but it didn’t matter at all. All I cared about was Hawk and Lacey, and how they worked! I loved that this book featured our canine friends not just as cuddly companions, but as formidable workers.

I read books 1-8 to prepare for this ARC (yes I am an overachiever) and I am so glad I did. I LOVE this series and feel like I am now part of the Jennings crew! I really enjoy watching the relationships between characters blossom and mature, at which Sara Driscoll is a deft hand. I can't wait to see what happens in the next book!

Summit's Edge is the 9th book in the FBI K-9 series. Although each case is completed by the end of each book, you will miss the personal stories of the main characters if you read these books out of order or as standalone books. This time, there has been a plane crash in the Elk Mountains of Colorado. The plane belonged to Barron Pharmaceuticals and was carrying the directors to a meeting/conference. The plane was hijacked, so the FBI is called in. The K-9 team including Meg and her dog Hawk, as well as Brian and his dog Lacey. The crash is in a very steep area, hard to get to, so they will have to hike in to see if there are any survivors, including the hijacker. The dogs are able to pick up an air scent trail, so it they can follow it safely, they will see who if anyone survived. While hiking to the site, Meg contacts her brother-in-law who is an investigative reporter to see if he can find out any information about the hijacker. Armed with some information, they now have to track him as he escapes the mountain.
This is a series that I very much enjoy. I love the K-9 component and seeing the various missions that work and how they support their human partners. Each chapter begins with a term from mountain climbing and briefly explains it so when it appears in the book, we know what it is about. This was an extremely difficult mission, so much could go wrong in the mountains and luckily they had a local support team that were able to help with the climb and rescue. The characters are quick thinkers, courageous, smart and great team members. The way they work together, both humans and canines is what makes these missions successful. This was a fast paced, adventure, with a lot of suspense, that brought the issue of how responsible are the pharmaceutical companies for the drug crisis? Another excellent book in this series. Susan Bennett has been narrating this series and she does an excellent job. She is the voice of Meg in this series, but also does a great job with the other characters. I highly recommend this book and series in whatever format you prefer.

While this worked well as a stand alone/coming into the series unexpectedly, there are definitely a lot of reference points and memories that are mentioned. I was able to finish and enjoy the book as it was, but I would have been in a better position if I had known it was a series and started from book one.
I listened to the audio for this, and it was so well done. This is a very procedural book, and at times there can be a lot of information being delivered and technical terms, especially when talking about altitude sickness. I felt like the tone and pace were perfectly handled to make this easier to absorb, and still interesting. When needed, Susan Bennett brought the emotion, and conveyed the danger aspect of what they were facing so well.
A K-9 Rescue FBI book, this one takes us to the Aspens, trying to find survivors of a private plane high-jacking and crash. Meg and Brian, along with their dogs Hawk and Lacy, head to Colorado knowing very little information. They'll have to deal with the elements as they attempt a high altitude rescue with the local rescue team.
When they find the crash site, they're thrilled to have half a dozen survivors, but their chase doesn't end there. As they learn more about the owner of the plane, Barron Pharmaceuticals, and the man who hi-jacked it, they now are on a mission to find the high-jacker before he can disappear, and possibly leave more victims in his wake.
While I'm sure I would have enjoyed this book more with all the background information, as a stand alone I enjoyed it thoroughly. It's peaked my interest in the world of K-9 rescue, and I'm sure I'll be looking for the first one. Trigger warning though - both handlers and their K-9's face peril, and there are mentions of former dog death. I know this can be a hard subject for some, and should be approached with caution.

I really enjoyed the story and both the law enforcement/first responders aspects, as well as the romance. There were some unpredictable twists and turns, but I was very interested and invested. The dogs in the story added a whole new dimension and excitement. Another interesting aspect to this story is that it takes place over a very short amount of time. Each chapter also opens with some fact on climbing. I am definitely interested in the rest of the series. Very well written!

Summit's Edge is the ninth book in the FBI K-9 series by Sara Driscoll. This can be enjoyed as a standalone mystery or as part of the series.
This book was so intense. I had tears in my eyes many times while reading this. The story felt so real. I loved the characters and can’t wait to get to know them better.
This book had me on the edge of my seat. I loved how the story unfolded. The author had a special way of bringing me into the story and feeling as if I was there.
I thought the narration by Susan Bennett was incredible!
This is a Must Read for 2024!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Thank you NetGalley and RBMedia for the ARC of this audiobook for my honest review
The writer definitely does their research and you can tell. I learnt a lot of important stuff in the most enjoyable way. This writer needs to create enjoyable books for schools because I haven’t remembered anything I learnt in school but I’m sure I’ll remember what I read from this book for life. I loved and cared for the characters. It was a tense and entertaining mission and I just wanted to keep listening I didn’t want to do anything else. I definitely recommend.
I'll be publishing my review on Goodreads and StoryGraph 2nd January and on Tik tok most likely will add to a monthly wrap up post with review the beginning of February

Meg Jennings and her K-9 partner, Hawk set out to brave the treacherous Elk Mountains of Colorado in search of the wreckage of a hijacked private plane.
This book was different for me, but I found that I enjoyed it. The entire book is driven by the setting and Meg and Hawk navigating around it.
For me, I found it very anxiety-driven with the danger of the high elevations of the Elk Mountains. The author did a really good job putting you in that situation as you follow Meg and Hawk along.
Overall, this was an enjoyable read and I liked the author's style and descriptions.

This book is about Meg Jennings a hard-headed FBI agent and her K-9 partner, Hawk. They are tasked with helping find victims of a plane crash.
I loved the part that Hawk played in assisting Meg in solving the crime - really neat to learn a bit about K-9 dogs and training in the process. I read a lot of mystery books and it was a nice change adding in the dogs as supporting characters.
The character development kept me hooked throughout.
I would recommend this book to those who love a bit of mystery mixed with tracking and climbing. I'll be looking to read the next in this series.
4.2 ⭐️

This is a Mystery/Suspense, and this is the ninth book in the FBI K-9 series. I have read one other book in this series before picking up this book, but I do think you can read this book as a standalone without any problems. I loved this book. It pulled me in, and I could not put this book down. I loved all the drama, fast pace, action, and suspense. This book had me on the edge of my seat while reading this book. I really loved this book. I listened to the audiobook for this book, and I think the narrator did a great job. I received an ARC of this book. This review is my own honest opinion about the book like all my reviews are.

Audio book review – Sarah Bennett’s narration keeps the story flowing rapidly and with clear diction. The story holds its’ own with a fast pace thriller and drama on the snowy slopes of Aspen which makes for a good tale. I found the descriptions of the mountainous back drop to be great having visited before. Enjoy

"She glanced down at Hawk, who seemed to sense her nerves and was already gazing up at her with eyes full of love, his tail wagging enthusiasm. She could do this. She had to."
FBI K9 handler Meg Jennings and her partner Hawk (a black Labrador retriever) go on a dangerous search and rescue mission in the Colorado mountains. They’re looking for survivors of a plane crash, but may also need to track a hijacker...if he survived.
This is book nine but it can definitely be read as a stand alone. Brian and his partner Lacey (a German shepherd) work alongside Meg and Hawk. I enjoyed learning how search and rescue operates and how K9 units work in the field, true partners in every sense they have developed a deep trust and saved each others’ lives many times.
I was left breathless as the teams hiked and climbed a mountain THOUSANDS of feet high, in the COLD. The suspense was NON-STOP. Could the dogs make it over a steep slope? Was an avalanche going to start? Would they succumb to altitude sickness? What about falling debris or unstable footing? Ahhhhhh!! This is all BEFORE they find anyone! Climbing is a HUGE aspect of this adventure and it was helpful to have the definition of terms at the beginning of each chapter. I love when I can learn a little something while being on the edge-of-my-seat!
I adore an animal main character and SUMMIT’S EDGE has TWO. I constantly worried about the fate of the two doggos and their handlers. Sara Driscoll has expertly crafted a pulse pounding suspense ride, with tons of heart and a feel good vibe! Susan Bennett’s narration cranked the thrills WAY UP with her riveting emotive filled performance. I can still hear the fear in her voice as Meg shouted, “HAWK, RUN!” Sooooo EXCITING!! Whew! I felt like I had been climbing the mountain with them. Now I’d like a hot tub dip and a massage STAT to ease the tension. Don’t wait to grab your copy ASAP!

This is the first time I’ve read a book from the FBI K-9 series. Meg and Hawk. Brian and Lacey. I like the dogs and their bonded people.
In Summit’s Edge, they head to Colorado after a plane is hijacked and crashes in the mountains. Going in they don’t know who the hijacker is.
Meg is afraid of heights but goes into a range of 14000 foot mountains because she knows Hawk can help to find the person they are looking for. Meg’s wedding is only 2 weeks away. Her fiancé Todd is a firefighter paramedic who assists via satellite phone.
This is a highly suspenseful story. I like the book and would check out others in the series.
The book contains technical details of climbing in western mountains. This will never be something I seek to do. It made for an interesting book.
I listened to the audiobook, and I like the narrator.
Thanks to NetGalley, Kensington and Recorded Books for the opportunity to read/listen to this book.

Sara Driscoll is one of my favorite authors, and this latest installment does not disappoint. If you're a K-9, Thriller, Mystery lover with an appreciation for rugged mountains - then this is the perfect recipe for an engaging read/listen!
The recipe: A plane crash, a dangerous highjacker, a savy FBI handler (Meg), a K-9 partner (Hawk), searching for crash survivors, searching for a murderer in treacherous environments and high elevations in the Colorado Mountains.
Plenty of excitement, interesting characters, fascinating details about search dogs and their handlers with the unique environment that is often encountered and necessary to train and be familiar with in for a dangerous mission.
Pace was just a bit slower than I wished, but overall a great story. I enjoyed the narration by Susan Bennett.
4 Stars.
My thanks to NetGalley, Sara Driscoll, and RBmedia Recorded books for an ACC in exchange for my honest opinion. All opinions are my own.

This was the first book I’ve by this author. I love my books with dogs as the side character. This book misses it for me. The amount of detail about climbing was a bit much. I would have liked more story. I definitely will give this author another try. Maybe I need to go back and read her back list.

So…this was terrific!
We have a dog (actually TWO, K-9 dogs who work in the FBI search and rescue area!) Meg is Hawk’s handler (and I’ve already fallen in love with him!) And, her partner Brian has Lacey, who is also a sweetie! The four of them work together very well, and when the going gets tough, they know they can depend on each other. As a matter of fact, these terrific K-9’s can do so much more than their human counterparts…at least in several areas. But it’s wonderful to see (hear) how well they work together.
When they get called in for a private plane that’s been hijacked, they set off almost immediately… But Meg is a BIT concerned, as her wedding looms in the very near future…(It’s actually TWELVE DAYS AWAY!!) But she has high hopes that she’ll make it back with plenty of time to spare… 🙏🏼🙏🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Ends up that there was a distress call from the plane before it went down, but that’s all they know. Oh…and the plane is owned by (and full of) a big pharmaceutical company that has been in the news lately for some dicey stuff…. Their entire upper management staff is on this plane!
And, the area the plane went down in is in one of the trickiest places in Colorado….where the highest mountains are. This makes finding the plane, and any possible survivors, nearly impossible.
This one will have YOU holding your breath, and hanging on to every STEP as they go!
I believe this is the second I’ve read of this author, and I will definitely be keeping my eyes open for more!!
5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for me!

This is the 9th book in the FBI K-9 series, but it is the first I have read and it didn’t impede my enjoyment at all. It did reference a couple of previous cases but I feel like I would still enjoy those if I were to pick them up. I listened to the audiobook for about the first half of this one before switching to kindle and binging the rest. I thought the narrator did a good job, her voice may have been a little flat it really fit the focused nature of the main character. This book takes us to a plane crash in the mountains and Meg and her partner Brian (one of my only complaints of the narration is that her saying Brian and his partner Ryan’s names sounded the same and was confusing) and their search dogs are sent to Colorado to help find survivors but also the high jacket of a private airplane. This isn’t the kind of search they’re used to, but they are sure that they and their pups are up for the challenge. I liked the glimpse at these smart, sweet working dogs and the important work they do that humans can't match. Overall I gave this one 4.5 stars rounded up since I was starting the series late and that might have kept me from becoming fully lost in the story.

I’m always a fan of crime fiction and add a dog and I’m over the moon. And even better when the dog has a purpose. When you throw in a missing pharmaceutical ceo, the story could be ripped from the headlines.
I’m a fan of the balance with Meg and Hawk and that there’s another handler and dog searching to show how they complement each other in a search. Meg’s wedding puts her part on a timer and when there’s an incident with another dog, the suspense and pace escalates.
The story started a little slow but after the setup, I was all in wanting to know what happened and if they’d make Meg’s deadline.
Susan Bennett does a great great job conveying the urgency and intensity of the search. She brought the story to life.

Sadly, I was unfamiliar with this series; I should have listened to all nine by now. While this book stands well alone there are references to past books that make me want to read them all. The series focuses on FBI handler Meg Jennings and her K-9 partner, Hawk. Meg is a strong female lead. The character is realistic, likeable, knowledgeable, intelligent, and good at her job.
“In Summit’s Edge” a mere two weeks before her wedding to firefighter/paramedic, fiancé, Todd, Meg and Hawk are called on a special mission. A plane has been hijacked; on board are the board of directors of Barron Pharmaceuticals. One of the security guards shoots the CEO. The plane crashes on Elk Mountain in Aspen, Colorado along the Maroon Bells Wilderness area. The plane breaks into killing those in the tail section. The survivors have multiple injuries. The hijacker makes a run for it with the CEO’s son in hot pursuit despite his injuries.
Meg and Hawk, along with her friend/partner Brian and his K-9 dog Lacey must face treacherous weather in their effort to locate the plane and find the hijacker and Barron. This is a particularly tough mission for Meg, she is terrified of heights. Together Meg, Hawk, Brian and Lacey battle the weather, altitude, cold, lack of oxygen, and slippery unstable rocks; time is running out. This is a challenge unlike any they have faced before.
At the beginning of each chapter a term was defined concerning mountain climbing. It felt like I was on that slope with Meg as she and Hawk climbed the cold rocky mountain. Todd and others feed important information to the team searching for mountain. The details kept me eagerly listening to this tale. Kudos to author Sara Driscoll for the description of the climb and search. I was on the edge of my chair throughout this book.
This book has a special ending that fans will not want to miss.
Thank you NetGalley for the review copy. My reviews are my personal opinions.
