didn’t really enjoy the book. It felt a lot of it dragged on and then the ending just seemed completely rushed??
Escape to a colourful little flower stall on the island of Jersey with its sweeping golden beaches. The perfect place for Bella to discover that a heartbreaking family secret might just help her find a new beginning...This is a cozy quick read...a fun read. Curl up in a comfy chair with a warm afghan, a cup of steaming tea, a delicious scone and enjoy...family and friends....
I definitely have a soft spot for books
set in Jersey or Guernsey
This lovely, heart-warming book was
another winner!
The story begins with Bella leaving her
serial cheating husband - and thank
goodness she did - not sure what she
saw in him to begin with!
I enjoyed the rekindling of the
relationship between Bella and her
feisty 94 year old Great Aunt Celestine.
it was also nice that Bella could repay
Celestines unwavering support by
helping her with the long kept angst she
held over something she did as a
teenager.
Rory's story added a touch of mystery
whilst also reflecting the terrible war
times in Jersey.
An enjoyable read -I really look forward
to reading more of Tillys books!
Read and reviewed in exchange for a free copy from Netgalley. This was an enjoyable read. I enjoy Tilly Tennant's books and this did not disappoint. She created an engaging, likeable, and realistic cast of characters and the Jersey setting was a nice change from the usual London / Cornwall often seen in this genre. Tennant weaved heart and humour into the story, creating a moving story which I was invested in thoroughly.
Bella decides to leave her cheating husband and go help her great aunt in Jersey while she gets back on her feet at her flower stall.
Rory has come jersey looking for his family after his devorce .
He bumps into Bella at the flower stall and asks for her help in looking for his family.
A lovely story set in Jersey. I enjoyed reading about all the places in Jersey as I went there years ago. The ending was a little sad but I was expecting it. My thanks to netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC!
This book was lovely and heartwarming. At times, it served as a cozy mystery, which added to the plot. I also liked how the romance between Bella and Rory was ambiguous and kept the reader invested in their love story. I liked the relationship between Bella and her great-aunt Celestine and how they were able to bridge the gap between generations to work through both of their traumas. This book was good from beginning to end and I can't wait to read more from this author.
This was a lovely read. I loved learning about Jersey and its history. Seeing Bella try to turn her life around after leaving her husband and rediscovering her relationship with her great aunt was really nice. Celestine was a great woman, so active and feisty.
Discovering Rory and his connection to Jersey was fascinating, and I enjoyed getting a glimpse into what life was like when the island was occupied during the war.
It was a really great read and my heart went out to Bella and her family after finding Celestine, but I liked how things turned out for her, island life really agrees with her.
A really great feel good read, some great characters that have lived such interesting lives.
This was such a beautiful poignant read and am hoping this is the start of a new series for this author who is one of my favourites. I loved the characters and the community feel and storyline and the descriptions of the setting. Reading this has made me want to visit jersey.
The little island flower stall was such a cosy, feel good story of both love and loss. When Bella finds out her husband Sean has cheated, again, she knows she can't forgive it this time. Instead she moves back in with her parents to see what her next stage of life is going to be. But then when her grant aunt has a fall and is struggling to run her flower shop, Bella offers to help out. Along the way, Bella makes new friends, and totally falls in love with Jersey, can she see herself making it a home for her there too?
Bella finds out her husband has cheated again and leaves him. She goes to her parent's house, and learns that her 94-year-old great Aunt had fallen and broke her leg, and owns a flower stall on the Island of Jersey, and Bella decided to go there and help her for six weeks. She has some memory of going there as a child.
Her great Aunt is happy to see her, even though she didn't know anything about flowers, her Aunt guided her, and she learned fast about arranging flowers. She met some of her Aunts friends, and also met a man named Rory who was there looking to find out his family history on his father's side of the family. Bella decided she would help Rory to see if he could find out about his family. The mystery surrounding this, and learning about the history of the island, will keep you reading, and the journey they are on, wasn't anything they planned.
I was engrossed in this story and when it ended I wished I could see into the future.
I received an ARC from Bookouture through NetGalley.
What a beautiful four-star read. This was five starts for the first 95% of the story, but the ending just felt rushed and not quiet done. I would have loved an epilogue, maybe a year or two out, it just felt almost unfinished, but I love it when everything is wrapped up, and I am sure so many will love the ending. Bella was a great character but it was Celestine who blew me away, her strength and story were just so well done. This story made me want to book a trip to Jersey so badly, its somewhere I have wanted to visit, but never been able to and this just gave me the oomph I needed to get something booked for a friends birthday next year.
Bella discovers her awful husband has cheated again so decides to escape to Jersey to stay with her great aunt Celestine.
Bella soon settles in and makes new friends including the lovely Rory, while helping to run Celestine’s flower stall.
This book was really enjoyable and I loved the setting of beautiful Jersey. I found the historical side of the book really interesting and I loved that there were older characters in the book.
The ending was bittersweet but hopefully there will be a sequel.
Thanks to NetGalley, Tilly Tennant and Bookouture for an advance copy in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.
Bella catches her husband cheating on her and decides to leave him. At her parents she finds out her great-aunt had fallen and needs help running her flower stall on the island of Jersey. Meeting Rory, who is seeking his family . His father had been adopted, and basically knew a few names but wanted to find more. Meeting and friendship between Rory and Belle grows. Enjoyed this one, and would recommend this book and author.
OMG what a tale! This had it all: summery feel, a hint of mystery, sadness, fresh starts and tragedy. I loved the Focus on Jersey and what happened in the Occupation. Celestine’s story had me gripped, almost more than Bella’s. It was also achingly tragic. I genuinely couldn’t stop reading but felt sad when it ended. I really hope there is another visit to Jersey soon.
Bella is on a journey of starting over. She meets new friends and really gets to know her great aunt. Her journey is bittersweet. Her aunt’s situation and the outcome is very sad. The writing is wonderful. The descriptions of the island were so vibrant, it made me feel as though I was on the island too. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced free copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I received a copy from the publisher through NetGalley.
Tilly Tennant at her very best. Wow wow wow. Loved this story set mainly on Jersey . Bella goes to help her aunt after a nasty split from her husband on her flower story . You get secrets from the Second World War and a new love that brings different challenges. A neat ending Loved it .
This was okay! It's a average romance story. The title cover is cute as well. I really like the colors and the artwork on it.
This was a lovely story about moving on set on the gorgeous island of Jersey where nonagenarian Celestine had been unable to open her flower stall due to a broken ankle until her great niece Bella arrived on the island having left her adulterous husband. Bella and Celestine were such fun to read about and then the arrival of Rory gave Bella the chance of a close relationship and allowed Celestine to face up to her past. This offered some thought provoking moments about Jersey during the war years which blended well with modern day commemorations. There’s a lovely feel to this book but the story has some bittersweet moments but overall it’s a heartwarming character read with a lot of soul.
