Odd Spirits by S.T. Gibson is a charming novella that mixes magic, romance, and the supernatural. Newlyweds Moira, a tarot-reading witch, and Rhys, a ceremonial sorcerer, face spooky challenges when a mischievous spirit disrupts their home. Their different magical styles and the appearance of Rhys’s ex-boyfriend add depth and drama to the story.

Gibson’s writing beautifully balances eerie moments with heartwarming scenes, making this a delightful read for fans of romantic fantasy. The novella is well-paced, with a perfect blend of action, humor, and heartfelt moments. If you enjoy enchanting tales with a touch of the supernatural, Odd Spirits is a must-read!

Okey, this was nice addition to Evocation, gave us more insight into Rhys and Moira beginning of marriage and was quick and fun to read.

The audiobook narrators were good and it's only three hours so I would recommend it to everyone who read evocation!

A spooky haunted house novella perfectly sets the tone for a mystical Fall.

I read and loved Evocation by S.T. Gibson earlier this year, so I jumped at the chance to read this little prequel! In it, we get a closer look at our darling newlyweds Rhys and Moira, as well as some intriguing scenes of David. If you haven’t already read Evocation, I would say go ahead and start with this prequel.
It adds real depth to the characters and a closer look at their shared histories.

The narrator does a nice job of distinguishing between the characters and I enjoyed the tone he uses for Moira.

S.T. Gibson writes intricate and real relationships that draw you in while offering a big dose of the occult and a touch of spice.

I love a good novella prequel. I loved these characters in Evocation. Something here was missing though. There wasn’t the same spark as the first book, and I want to say it was the narrator that just didn’t land these characters. The voice wasn’t as deep so it led Moira and Rhys to be too immature almost. I don’t think it was the writing because what was written was still in character for them.
I’m all for the power of love being the cure, but done this quickly was hard to get behind.
Still very excited to see what happens next, so this was a nice read to hold me over until next year.

Odd Spirits is a prequel to The Summoner’s Circle series and focuses on the marriage between Rhys and Moira. This book serves more to give backstory to the characters rather than add to the plot of Evocation. It was interesting to learn more about Rhys, Moira, and the challenges they faced especially when faced with a little supernatural shenanigans. I especially loved how Rhys and Moira explored their distinctly different magical backgrounds and how they each approach magic. I read this via audiobook and enjoyed Joe Hempel’s narration. It kept me interested in the story, and I felt the narration fit with the vibe of the story. Overall, this is a short, sweet, character driven read.

I was so excited when I received the proof !
Quick read, we learned more about the past of the characters (first installment; <u> evocation </> ).
It is a bit cheesy and with the pace of the story it feels "fake". But I think, with the other books it will make more sense.

Thank you net galley for the copy.

I flew through Odd Spirits as both a physical book and audiobook. The audiobook is a good standard audiobook, but the narration does not do the book itself justice.

This is the perfect prequel to The Summoner Series, and could be read before or after Evocations. I would recommend after.

The characters are astoundingly charming and beautifully devoted. They are terrible and ever so human. The nod to the innermost feelings of a polyamorous person is a breath of fresh air.

This is for the lovers of all that is occult.

I cannot recommend this series enough!

I enjoyed this. I liked getting a little glimpse into Moira and Rhys’s past and their more current frustrations. I like how the power of communication and communication avoidance was highlighted. It also highlights some of h the couples history with David and the society. The audiobook was good. I have no qualms to mention. The physical book I bought (Waterstones) is very, very pretty. I always appreciate bonus character art.

Thank you to NetGalley, S.T. Gibson, and Tantor Audio for this audiobook ARC.

Odd Spirits is a prequel to Evocation following Rhys, Moira, and David. I genuinely liked two out of the three MCs in Evocation, but I disliked all of them in this novella.

I received an ALC from Tantor Audio via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

thank you so much to tantor audios for the audiobook!

odd spirits is prequel novella to evocation. it follows Rhys and Moira when they’re newly wed. Moira is a hereditary witch and Rhys is studying to become a sorcerer. now their house has started to have spiritual disturbances, which causes tension and distrust in their marriage.

i really enjoyed this one as it atmospheric (which i expected nothing less from ST. Gibson) and it was perfect for october. it was also quite nice to see the beginnings of Rhys and Moira’s relationships, especially cause i found their dynamic really good in evocation.

i really loved the narration and definitely easy to follow. i think it really sets the atmosphere for this cute novella!!

Odd Spirits was fine… I think the writing was very good, but I kind of disliked the characters a bit. Even though more context was added regarding their backstories, they were all very annoying to me. This was confusing, because I actually liked them in Evocation… This was also just too short, in my mind. The plot was entertaining, but I wanted more.

I read and loved Evocation earlier this year and have been hungry for more of Rhys, Moira, and David. I don't usually enjoy stories about marriages in trouble, but knowing where Rhys and Moira are in the future took away some of the usual angst. I loved getting to see more of the early days of Rhys and Moira's relationship, as well as more context about their history with David that were hinted to in Evocation. I think you could read this as an introduction to the Summoner's Circle series, but would feel more grounded in the characters and their interpersonal connections if you start with Evocation.

I wish there had been a separate narrator for Moira, but the narrator did an excellent job with both Rhys and Moira's POVs.

Now I really can't wait for the next installment!
