I think this was a great beginning to this series. I really loved the art and it kept excited about the novel. I have a hard time with light novels usually but I did not feel that with this one. I am excited to read more of this series.

I've tried a few times now to get into this book and I just can't. It was my first light novel and I just think these aren't for me. Thank you for the chance to give a shot. Going to rate it 3 stars since I was not able to give a fair review of the whole book.

Thank you to NetGalley, the Publisher, and the author for sharing this eARC for my honest review.

I’m going to preface this review by saying I rate any book I’ve finished as at least a 2 star. I was intrigued by the premise due to my love of anime. But this truly took me a few months to work through since receiving the ARC. That should tell you enough there.

The prologue was… rough, to say the least. It very quickly indicated that this was not intended for Teen/YA like the category I originally found it under. I understand that this likely was indicating the fan service that was to come, but it took me by surprise and set a bad tone for me upfront.

Additionally, as far as narrative, there are moments when I felt like it was too descriptive: meaning too many sentences describing the same thing but yet not giving true additional context in some spaces. And the diction choice for Tiamat, while it makes sense with the storyline, it would pulled me out of the narrative entirely.

Overall, I can definitely see this being a good read for others, but I’m just not the target audience. I feel I came in with different expectations that led to my initial disappointment and the story didn’t hold my attention enough to combat that.

The art style for the light novel was easy on the eyes and made it engaging, but however the characters a little fell flat for me. The dialogue was a little stilted and felt unnatural at times. However the premise is interesting and it could be interesting to see how the rest of the story develops from here.

It started as an intriguing read. However, I found the pace slow at first and the writing caused my interest to fade. The story is definitely written for mature readers and not young teens/adults. While some might enjoy the artwork and story, sadly this was not a book for me.

Thank you to #NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

Thanks to NetGalley, the Publisher and Author for an eARC in exchange for my review.

How to Tame Your Dragon Girlfriends, Volume 1 by Brandon Varnell is a light novel with a definite style towards manga/manhwa type reads. It is not a comic, which I mistakenly assumed when requesting, and that is my own fault. I am relatively new to reading this type of "light novel" and wasn't sure if I would enjoy it as much as a comic.

Initially, because I love dragons and manhwa, I wanted to see what the story would deliver. Unfortunately, the storyline, character thoughts and relationships did not appeal to me. I could not get into the read and I thought perhaps it was due to there not really having the beautiful artwork of a comic to pull everything together. The artwork included was alright but not enhancing the work in any way for me personally.

I don't think I am the intended audience for this work, so I hope others can appreciate it and chime in as I believe it to be the beginning of a series.

This didn't feel like a complete story and I'm guessing it wasn't supposed to with it being the first in a volume. I didn't enjoy the story line with the main character desperately wanting to become an actor, despite the fact they are terrible at it. It was an enormous part of the story line but it didn't have any baring on the plot. But maybe it did because I'm not sure what the plot was. It didn't follow the elements of a story.

I was very disappointed with this book, the characters were flat and the MMC infuriated me every time he spoke or had a thought I absolutely cannot recommend this to anyone

It started off in a very very strong sense. And then it became a lot slower. The storyline did not progress in a very valuable way. It was just hard to follow along.

ARC COPY...Was surprised by the very westerner looking name at first, no offense! But read through with objectiveness and liked writer got the Japanese light novel/ harem style style and premise down to a tee...this writer knows what he's doing in the light novel fantasy harem genre!

"How to Tame Your Dragon Girlfriends" starts with a promising premise: a world filled with adorable dragon girls. The artwork is undeniably (smutty) tunning, with intricate details and a captivating style that would undoubtedly shine in a manga format. However, the narrative takes an unexpected turn, veering into mature themes and fan service that might surprise those expecting a typical light novel experience.

The story’s writing style can be described as a bit jarring, particularly when the ancient dragon girl speaks in an archaic version of English. While it adds a unique flavour to the fantasy genre, it can disrupt the flow of the narrative. Nevertheless, the characters are charming and their interactions are entertaining, making it easy to root for them.

How to Tame Your Dragon Girlfriends was a good read. The book is about a normal man living in Japan with a dragon. It's similar to Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid (which this book happens to mention multiple times). The book leans more toward romance than that series though. I do think it could've done without the sexual content (there's a paragraph dedicated to how men love boobs), but that seems to be par for the course with light novels so I won't fault this book for it. As someone who usually reads sci-fi novels, this was a nice change of pace. I would recommend this book if you like lighthearted comedies with a bit of romance thrown in.

I'm sorry I won't be finishing this book. It's not that it is bad, it's just not my cup of tea.
Thank you for allowing me to read it.

The premise of magical dragon girls immediately caught my attention—it sounded so fun and unique! Unfortunately, the execution fell flat for me.

The beginning of the book was slow and didn’t hold my attention. On top of that, the way the dragon girls spoke made it a chore to get through, dragging the entire reading experience down.

I wanted to love this, but it just didn’t work for me.

The prologue was truly awful and hard to get through with the way it was written, it almost turned me off of the book completely.

I started to enjoy the book through chapter one but was immediately offput again by the extreme fatphobia at the beginning of chapter two referring to a person as a “meatball” and “tub of lard”

This book should not be in the teen and ya section, I don’t know if it got mislabeled but between the descriptions and the sexual art this should definitely be in the adult section.

I personally cannot recommend this book and for that reason and all the reasons stated above I have to rate this book 1 star.

This was not what I was expecting but still fun and lighthearted! I loved the illustrations and is a good introduction to a series I'm plan to follow in future :)

Thank you for the arc!

when i read the synopsis, i was so interested to pick it up! it sounded something that i'd enjoy given that i love dragons but it was sadly a miss for me.

🦇 “Since coming to Japan, he had heard the phrase "a woman's boobs are filled with the hopes and dreams of men" and he finally understood why someone had invented such a phrase. Indeed, these pneumatic knockers were the stuff dreams were made of.” i mean... why do they always have to talk about women this way? it ruins my reading experience... how are boobs this important to the story? i hated the descriptions of women in this book.
🦇 i wasn't interested in the story, i was sadly bored...
🦇 i did like the way the dragon talked in such an old fashioned english, but it wasn't enough for me to fully enjoy this book.
🦇 safe to say i won't be continuing with the series either, but glad i gave it a shot!

This was a strong start to the How to Tame your Dragon Girlfriends series, it had what I was looking for in a light novel and worked overall as a story. The characters were fun and worked well together overall. I enjoyed the illustrations and how Brandon Varnell wrote this, I’m excited to read more in this series.

Was my first time reading this style and I liked it! I assumed that this was manga, however I say another reviewer say it was written in prose style. So if that matters to you, be aware!
