Really cute and quick! Perfect for reading to or with younger kids. Loved all the animal facts - they were explained simply and were easy for young readers to understand.
This book was so sweet! I learned a lot about sea animals and how they sleep. I think this is a perfect easy nonfiction book. I enjoy when an informational book can still have a narrative, and this one balanced the two very well. This would definitely be above my preschoolers' understanding and attention span, but I could see this being a hit with 7- to 10-year-olds.
Thanks to Gnome Road Publishing via NetGalley for the ARC! A book that introduces human and sea life sleep cycles. The illustrations are amazing. They really connect with the writing, especially the comic bubbles. The author did use some more advanced vocabulary for a couple of the animals. I think it was a nice way to connect us to the animals to help expand a child's learning! 4⭐️
This book is about a little girl who has trouble sleeping, and is Visited by her stuffed dolphin and he takes her on a journey to learn about all the other sea animals and how they sleep.
I learnt so much reading this book, it really is a great book for children of different ages.
Would recommend.
I received an electronic ARC from Gnome Road Publishing through NetGalley.
This young child is having difficulty sleeping. Their room is decorated with sea decor so they find themself talking with a dolphin and then moving through the ocean learning how various sea creatures sleep. Readers journey with them as the dolphin shares information about different creatures sleep habits. I appreciate how Kelso shares informative text side by side with the story. The illustrations capture the reality of ocean life while keeping some whimsy to appeal to younger readers.

When this little girl can't sleep, suddenly a dolphin came and took her to explore the sea creatures on how they sleep. I found this book interesting, the author talked about how sea creatures sleep, which we don't always know and look it up. It is amazing how they kept themselves safe and they do it differently from one another. A very interesting book to read, even for an adult like me.
Sleepy Sea is such a cute book! It is about a little girl and her stuffy dolphin as they explore the sea at night and how the animals in the ocean get sleep. It starts with explaining what sleep is and how we as humans differ from dolphins. Then they journey through the ocean while the dolphin teaches the little girl all about the different animal sleep facts.
The number one thing I like about this book besides the super cute drawings is how you can read it to toddlers or older kids. There are cute little bubble conversations between the little girl and the dolphin with fun learning about the ocean animals that would hold the interest of a toddler. While at the same time a deeper paragraph on each page with explanation of the sleep habits of that animal that is for older kids 6+. As a mom on 4 kids under 10 this is the perfect book to be able to read to my older kids and toddlers.
I am so buying extra copies of this book for my nieces and nephews. I love that there is a cute bedtime story mixed with scientific sleep facts for humans and animals.
Thank you Gnome Road Publishing for providing this book for review consideration via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
This book has a lot of information that may be too difficult for a younger child. The illustrations are nice and I did find the sleep patterns of a variety of sea animals interesting. However, some of the vocabulary was very advanced for many students who struggle with learning disabilities and processing information. It can be modified for this population of students. I do wish it was less technical and presented in a simpler and fun way. Such as the booger bubbles. Kids will remember that and repeat it.
All in all, the book is informative
Awesome book! This book is calming, beautiful, and educational, all at the same time. The dark and soft colors of the illustrations were very pretty, well-done, and definitely matched the theme of sleep that the book had. These elements make this book perfect for bedtime, as it will calm kids and end their day on a positive note before they fall asleep. Additionally, the way this book was written kept the energy level consistent and reasonable also makes this book meditative in a way. The illustrations also made each sea animal accurate and very adorable, which kids will adore.
As for the fun facts on every page: this was such a clever idea to include! Kids will leave this book with their brains full of sleep-related facts about sea animals. These fun facts will really stick because they were carefully chosen to be genuinely interesting. I even learned a few things from reading this book! All in all, I loved reading this book and I know that many kids will, too.
Bravo!
so many fun facts about animal sleep patterns and gorgeous graphics, my daughter loved learning about all the animals and it was a fun story.
This book is sweet and informative! It talks about all of the different ways that sea life sleeps! Some are similar to us, others have completely different sleep cycles and ways that they recharge their bodies.
The illustrations are great and help kids understand the processes.
Thank you to NetGalley and Gnome Road Publishing for allowing me to review a copy of this book.
Oh my gosh, this book is adorable. So many fascinating facts about sleepy ocean creatures that I never knew! What do you mean there's a booger bubble?!
The illustrations are vibrant and imaginative. Informative, funny, and just right for setting a sleepy scene, Sleepy Sea is sure to be a bedtime hit.

Sleepy Sea is a sweet book about the many ways different sea creatures sleep. A little girl cannot fall asleep and her stuffed dolphin takes her on adventure to learn about how sea animals sleep. The illustrations are very fun and whimsical, while also sharing scientific information. It manages to bring in so many animal facts, while still feeling like a bedtime story. I definitely learned a lot of new things! I'd definitely recommend this to preschool and elementary aged kiddos, especially if they are interested in sea creatures.
