Max Monroe, you both continue never to disappoint me.

Meet Me at Midnight was the perfect hilarious, fun, and easy read. EXACTLY what I was looking for in a Max Monroe book.

Juniper has been crushing on her best friend’s older brother, Beau, since she first met him when she was a young teen. Her sixteen birthday wish was to marry him. However, she made sure to keep her feelings hidden from her best friend, Avery, and lusted and loved from afar. Fresh out of college, she’s the new lowly intern at her bff’s dad’s workplace. When the opportunity presented itself to help Beau, she decided to sneakily message him on the new app called Midnight.

Beau has been trying to climb the cooperate ladder and not be called out for nepotism (unlike his sister, who’s second best friend is her black AMEX card, and her nemesis is work). Him and his rival are pitted head-to-head to create the best campaign for the new dating app called Midnight. However, when he receives a cryptic message ‘Meet me at Midnight’, he was intrigued.

I won’t go to much more into the actual plot, but we read the couple’s story on how they fall in love. I must say, I love Beau’s Midnight pitch at the end.

I enjoy a good brother’s best friend romance. The romance was spicy, the characters were interesting, and the comedy was a great touch. I love how both Juniper and Avery’s characters both owned who there are (Juniper would say how much she sounds crazy being in forever in love and Avery was the quintessential spoiled daddy’s girl and was unapologetic about it). I can’t wait to read Avery’s story.

The book is dual POV, but in different parts. I didn’t think I would enjoy it like that, but it was a pleasant surprise and fun way to read the story.

The first Max Monroe book I read was about a dating app. It’s just fair that I fall in love with yet another book about a dating app.

I will absolutely be recommending this book (and others of Max Monroe).

4.5 rounded up to 5

Thank you, Max Monroe and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

OK, so I might be a LITTLE biased because I’m obsessed with ‘love is blind”, I currently live in Miami and I did meet my Husband online, but I absolutely love this story.

I didn’t know what is essentially a catfish story could go so well 😂

But seriously, imagine the one that got away, the one you never could get or even the fantasies you’re too scared to share with your partner; and think about being able to play them out on an app, anonymously or not. What could you say, what could you do, if you could be anonymous; who could you be? Brave? Bold? Would you stay quiet?

Sure, it starts out innocently enough, but boyyyyyy it doesn’t stay that way and hallelujah!

Book Review of Meet Me at Midnight by Max Monroe

Rating: ★★★★☆ (4/5)

Meet Me at Midnight by Max Monroe is an utterly charming romantic comedy that brings a fun twist to the classic “best friend’s older brother” trope with a dash of mystery, a bit of late-night magic, and plenty of laugh-out-loud moments. At the heart of the story is Juniper Perry, a relatable, witty protagonist who finds herself in the unique position of anonymously chatting with her longtime crush, Beau Banks, without him knowing her true identity. Max Monroe’s writing is fresh and engaging, perfectly balancing humor, swoon-worthy romance, and the tension that comes from keeping a big secret.

Plot Summary
The setup is playful and intriguing from the start. Juniper has been harboring a serious crush on Beau, her best friend’s older brother, for over a decade. She’s admired him from afar—though "afar" gets a little closer when Beau temporarily moves next door to her. Juniper is also an intern at his company, which adds a layer of complication to their relationship. Just when it seems that her secret crush might stay buried, a stroke of fate gives her a chance to connect with Beau in an unexpected way: through anonymous midnight chats.

In these late-night conversations, Juniper lets her guard down and becomes the version of herself that isn’t restrained by the worry of being exposed. The secrecy of their midnight chats makes for a compelling twist, as readers wait to see if and when Beau will discover who she really is. The entire setup is a modern-day twist on the “you’ve got mail” premise, with a lot of warmth, humor, and romantic tension sprinkled throughout.

Characters
Juniper, or “June,” as she’s often called, is an instantly likable protagonist. She’s self-aware, funny, and relatable in her insecurities. Her long-standing crush on Beau is as much about admiration as it is about infatuation, making it feel genuine and endearing rather than shallow. As she tries to navigate the fine line between being his confidante and his secret admirer, we get to see her growth as she becomes bolder and more open.

Beau, on the other hand, is the kind of male lead who’s easy to fall for. As a high-powered executive with a warm, charismatic personality, he’s the quintessential “dream guy”—but he’s far from perfect. His natural charm and kindness make him relatable, and his sincere connection with Juniper in the midnight chats reveals a softer, more vulnerable side. Through Juniper’s eyes, we get to know Beau as more than just a successful executive or her best friend’s brother; we see him as a person navigating his own uncertainties, ambitions, and feelings.

The relationship between Juniper and Beau is built on more than just physical attraction. Their midnight conversations reveal a deeper connection, as Beau confides his thoughts, doubts, and dreams, and Juniper offers her support while hiding her true identity. Their rapport is filled with humor, flirtation, and genuine emotional intimacy, making the chemistry between them feel authentic and compelling.

Themes and Tropes
Max Monroe skillfully plays with the “best friend’s older brother” trope, a favorite for its tension and romantic payoff. Adding the secret midnight chats creates a modern spin, allowing Juniper and Beau to connect on an emotional level without the usual fears and inhibitions they might have in person. This duality—the open anonymity of their online chats versus the more reserved interactions in real life—adds layers to their romance and builds anticipation as readers wait for the moment when Beau finally discovers Juniper’s identity.

A key theme in Meet Me at Midnight is the courage to be yourself and face your feelings honestly. Juniper’s journey isn’t just about finding love with Beau but also about stepping out of her comfort zone, embracing her own voice, and taking risks. The midnight chats allow her to express her genuine self, but the real challenge is for her to do so openly and without the protection of anonymity.

The book also explores the idea of expectations versus reality—how we often idealize people from a distance but find something even more meaningful when we get to know them on a deeper level. Beau’s warm, charismatic facade is appealing, but his late-night vulnerability reveals the kind of authenticity that Juniper connects with the most. In a way, the midnight chats strip down the barriers of their public personas, bringing them closer in a way that feels truly meaningful.

Writing Style
Max Monroe’s writing style is fresh, humorous, and filled with witty dialogue that keeps the tone light and enjoyable. The book’s first-person narrative allows us to get up close and personal with Juniper’s thoughts, which are often humorous and self-deprecating. Her inner monologue is full of relatable moments, and Monroe’s comedic timing is spot-on, making Juniper’s perspective feel both genuine and entertaining.

The pacing is well-executed, as the midnight chats and real-life interactions are balanced to maintain a sense of anticipation. Monroe builds the romance slowly, giving readers plenty of moments to savor, while still keeping the tension high. As the story progresses, the stakes grow as Juniper’s feelings deepen and the risk of her identity being discovered looms larger.

Final Thoughts
Meet Me at Midnight is a delightful and heartwarming read, perfect for anyone who loves a modern romance filled with humor, heartfelt moments, and just the right amount of tension. Monroe’s knack for crafting relatable characters and building genuine chemistry makes this book a standout. The story is more than just a romance; it’s a journey of self-discovery, courage, and taking chances, which adds depth to the characters and makes their connection feel both authentic and rewarding.

For fans of romantic comedies, especially those who enjoy friends-to-lovers and “secret identity” plots, Meet Me at Midnight is a charming escape. With well-drawn characters, clever banter, and a romance that feels both modern and timeless, it’s a book that will leave readers smiling and satisfied.

Best friend's brother and anonymous communication weave two popular tropes together with shades of "You've Got Mail". Tricky situation in the same workplace keeps things moving as our girl keeps her secret. Not sure if we are supposed to like Avery, but if you ever worked where the boss's relative gets away with really not working, you may not be laughing ...

4.5/5⭐️
Juniper has had a crush on her best friend’s brother, Beau, for the past decade. Now that she works with him at the same marketing firm, AND he moves in next door ….her attraction to him strengthens further.

Unfortunately for her, Beau only considers her as a “younger sister”. When an opportunity allows her to chat with Beau anonymously via the Midnight app, she takes it! Their chats are funny and soon become blazing hot but will that remain the same once he realises who she is?

Omg, Pride and Prejudice is one of my favourite books too! Juniper is hilarious and I like the way she thinks lol. The first chapter is probably one of the funniest I have ever read in my life! 😹

The ending was just perfect – from Beau’s grand gesture to the lovely family gathering. Indeed, Christmas is the best time to remind ourselves to be grateful for what and who we have with us. Thanks for all the midnights!

"What might I not be afraid to say if I were truly anonymous? What would it be like to be more than me?"

I loved the idea behind Meet Me at Midnight! I also loved what may or may not have been intentional references to Taylor Swift songs.

But back to the story.

When June finds out someone is trying to steal ideas from her long time crush she knows she has to warn him. What better way than with the anonymous conversation and dating app their company is trying to brand and represent. It all starts with a simple note to Beau: Meet me at midnight.

I enjoyed the parallels to Cinderella after losing the glass slipper in Beau's hunt for his mystery woman. Max and Monroe handled the situation with Beau and Juniper really well. It could have been awkward and uncomfortable since it was repeatedly made clear Juniper was like a part of their family, but I never felt that weirdness.

I really enjoyed most of the characters. The only character I truly struggled to like or understand was Avery. She's supposed to be so confident and really knowing who she is and what she wants, but for me she just seemed really self absorbed. I'm pretty sure I would notice if my best friend that basically lived with me since we were like 12 had a crush on my older brother. But that's just me. By the end of the book Avery had grown on me and I look forward to reading her story.

Thank you Netgalley and Max Monroe!

Juniper has a crush on Beau. She secretly talks to him at night and he doesn't know who she is. He is also her best friend's older brother....

Love the charcters. Juniper and Beau are terrific. So many LOL scenes too. Love the funny banter as well. A terrific LOL rom-com.

Thanks to the publisher for the arc.

Juniper fell in love with Beau, her best friend's older brother, at first sight years ago, and there is no hope of getting over him or getting his attention. She's known this forever. But then a competition is set up between Beau and his rival colleague for the advertising for a new app that lets people chat anonymously. Juni is smart enough to realize that this is her chance to talk to Beau like a grown woman and not the teenager he sees. It is absolutely fabulous -- until problems begin to arise. Along the way, there are all kinds of crazy situations that happen to Juni and lots of great banter.

Read if you like: workplace romance, childhood crush, neighbours to lovers, best friend’s older brother, romcom, forced proximity, banter, forbidden romance, golden retriever hero, nepo babies

Juniper has been pining after Beau for 10 years. There are so many reasons why she can’t go after him. She’s an intern and he’s an executive, he’s her best friend’s older brother.

For a rich place they’re staying in a building with very thin walls 😂 I guess I don’t need realism
The first 40% of the book hooked me then it went meh from there. There was no chemistry or romance, yes there were lots of sneaking around to see each other but it was a lot of telling rather than showing their connection. I wasn’t getting anything from him and I wasn’t convinced that he was into her.

I don’t like how Avery was portrayed, she seemed like an extreme ditz. I’m sure there are people like this irl but she had zero personality besides being spoilt, dumb and being a flake. Boys were always on her mind (perfectly fine) but she didn’t seem like a good friend, she just seemed self absorbed. I understand that she was hurt with the whole thing but she was a shit friend too, so I thought that was sooo hypocritical 🙄

Considering that this was mostly a texting/online relationship, when it all blew up Juniper went M.I.A and decided to not communicate at all 😭 I found this so frustrating and immature

Maybe give this a go if you like the tropes, I did stay and finish it until the end so it still held my interest

ARC Review

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/🌶️🌶️🌶️

♥️ best friend’s brother
♥️ workplace romance
♥️ dual POV
♥️ anonymous messaging

This was my first book by Max Monroe and it did not disappoint! Juniper has been in love with her best friend’s older brother Beau since childhood, but has always felt like she was firmly in the “little sister” zone. She ends up getting a job as an intern at the marketing company his family owns that is working on a promotion for an anonymous messaging app called Midnight. Using the app to message with Beau, Juniper is finally able to say some of things she’s always wanted to because of her anonymity and the story builds from there is with a lot of spice and romance. Already can’t wait for the next book in this series!

Oh so so good!! Thank you for allowing me to read. #NetGalley #MaxMonroe
I love Max Monroe so so much. Everything I read is a 4 if not 5 star! Other than a few (meaning serious), the books are so fun and funny, and light, and just great great books to read at any time! They can write banter like no other! So funny!

We get to meet new people here, Beau and Juniper. Juniper has grown up pretty lonely. She met her best friend, Avery, when they were young, and her family pretty much adopted her right away. Everything June has ever wanted. Her parents are and were always too involved in their own lives to be a part of their daughters. But the one secret she has been keeping from the Banks family, she has been in love with Beau since the day she laid eyes on him. Her best friend’s brother, her second parent’s son. She thought she would take that secret to her grave. But now she is working with Beau and an opportunity arises and she takes it.

Again, so so good! I really am looking forward to reading about more characters. Such great characters and great world building. Thank you Max Monroe for always being an Author I know I can go to and love it!

I loved Meet Me at Midnight so much! I haven't read a ton of the brother's best friend trope but I really enjoyed this one! The whole scenario was unique from the other books that I've read and it was a breath of fresh air! I've only read a handful of Max Monroe books but this has to be my favorite so far! The dirty talk and the banter in this book are on point. Please tell me that Avery's story will be next?!!

I highly recommend you read this book ASAP!

Avery Banks and June have been long-time friends and June has always felt that she is a part of the family. However, Avery is unaware that June has had a crush on her brother, Beau for the past ten years. When June and Avery take on intern jobs at the Banks marketing company, things begin to intensify between June and Beau.
I loved the characters of Beau who does all that he can to protect June, even though at first it appears that it is done in a brotherly manner. He is so charming and caring, that it confuses June. There is plenty of chemistry between this couple as well as when their relationship is still in its infancy and Beau is unaware that he is talking to June in the Midnight app. Added to this, is the sweet friendship between the girls, which makes for some very funny scenes.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This was my first Max Monroe book but it definitely will not be the last. I loved this book so much. The banter, the chemistry, the spicy, and the emotion was amazing. I laughed so much during this book. And blushed a little too. Jupiter has been in love with Beau Since she meet him. Her best friends older brother. But it is more that that. Avery ( the best friend and most self absorbed person on the planet) is more that just a best friend. to her. Her family have taken Jupiter into their lives and loved her like on of them. I really enjoyed this and I can’t wait for the next one.
Thank you to Netgalley for this ACR.

Jupiter has been secretly in love with her best friend’s brother for years, but too afraid to act on it. Until, a new app lets her anonymously express everything she’s feeling….

This was my first Max Monroe book and I absolutely loved it! The storyline, banter, characters - it was unputdownable!

Thanks for the opportunity to read in advance! Will definitely be recommending this.

Meet Me at Midnight is about Jupiter, who has been secretly in love with Beau, her best friend's brother. Jupiter starts working for Beau's family company and secretly messges Beau through a new app that is in it's early stage of development. Beau and sister have no idea that Jupiter has been in love with Beau since they were kids. I liked the story but felt it dragged at times. I did enjoy reading from the dual POV's. I was not a big fan of Ava, she was very self absorbed. But I am curious to see what the future brings for Ava.
