This book had my ratings all over the place.

The beginning hooked me instantly. I love the bond aspect. Rainer…I was rooting for him. I really wanted the romance between Cecilia and Rainer to happen.

I loved the whole world building. The gods, challenges and the journey the FMC goes through was really good.

In my opinion, the story takes a drop when the secondary love interest is introduced. I honestly never liked him. There’s always something fishy about him. I know he supposed to be good. We still don’t know, but I don’t like him for her and I feel after she was introduced in my words at the story that’s a big turn and I was not as invested.

There was a cliffhanger.

this book has me rethinking my stance on love triangles. Normally I’m not one for them, but the premise of this sounded too good not to give it a chance. I’m glad I did! the tension between Cecilia and her two love interests was soooo good on both sides. At first, I genuinely couldn’t pick a favorite 🤭 eventually a front runner popped up for me though as we got to know them each more. The characters were so intriguing and had a rich history that I’m so curious to explore as the series goes on.

this story was action packed, full of an interesting magic system, and really well established world building especially for a first book. secrets and gods and mystery abound, keeping me on the edge of my seat. The narrator was also PHENOMENAL.

I do think this could have ended a little sooner than it did, with the ending of this book inserted into book 2 instead for a more intense impact, but that’s just be personal preference lol. Towards the end it felt mildly repetitive with the tension between our trio. I’ll definitely be checking out the rest of this series to see what our beloved Cece gets up to!

Thank you to Dreamscape and NetGalley for the ALC!

Not going to lie, I like to have more meat to my fantasy books than just two characters making heartsick puppy eyes at one another for I don't know how many hours. No plot just vibes but not in a fun way.

The lost God begins with rich world building and an intriguing new magic system that is a delight to read about. We continuously learn about the world and it's God's as the story progresses. The story is rich with morals and lessons of fighting for your beliefs, love and equality.

You'll find:
yearning for love
Slow burn and fast burn
Love triangle
Emotional rollercoaster
War and politics
Meddling gods

The Lost God has so much to offer, and while there were a few things that left me a bit conflicted, this book definitely has *tons* of potential. The premise is unique, fresh, and absolutely intriguing! I love the way it blends fantasy with imaginative world-building and a magic system that, though occasionally complex, holds so much promise. There’s a solid foundation for a captivating series here, and I’m really excited to see how it develops.

One of the things that really stood out to me was the fast-paced action. The plot keeps you on your toes with plenty of twists and turns, and the action scenes are *thrilling*! Plus, there’s a surprising amount of spice—unexpected, but definitely appreciated! The stakes are high, the tension is palpable, and the story’s energy pulls you in from the very first page.

Now, while the romance and character dynamics didn’t completely win me over in this first book, I can absolutely see how they’ll grow and evolve in future installments. The love triangle felt a bit rushed, but I’m all in for seeing it develop into something that really tugs at my heartstrings. The characters have such great potential, and even though I didn’t fully connect with them yet, I’m excited for their journeys ahead. Honestly, I’m *dying* for this love triangle to rip my heart out in the best possible way!

And let’s not forget the spice—*wow*, it’s so good. Seriously, it's top-tier. 🤭🫠

The Lost God is just the beginning of a four-book series, and even with a couple of personal hang-ups, I’m so optimistic about what’s to come. There’s so much excitement and promise here, and I can already tell this series has the potential to become something amazing. I’m beyond eager to continue the journey and see where it takes us next!

"The Lost God" by Sheila Masterson is book 1 in The Lost God series. This is an adult romantasy. I enjoyed this book and recommend it to fantasy lovers. ❤️

It's long at 16 hrs 45 min. in the audiobook and almost 500 pages. The storyline is more like 3 books in this one.

The narrators, Caitlin Kelly, Will Damron, and Tim Campbell are excellent!

Cecilia is a Memory Witch with weapons training as a hunter. As a young child, she was bonded with a Guardian named Rainer whose job was to protect her. They are best friends. They need to go on a quest called the Gauntlet. Completing the Gauntlet will release the Lost God, which should help her Kingdom of Olney to win the war with a neighboring kingdom. That is the first half of the book.

On the journey, a hunter named Xander, who had been watching Cecilia in Olney, joins them. Xander is a big flirt, and a romance develops. Since Cece has always loved Rainer, there is a love triangle.

There is a lot of spice in this book. At times, I felt it was a bit too much. I know many readers love this in their books.

There is magic in this and gods and kingdoms, but there are not any magical creatures. 😒

I always dreamed of Sheila getting an audiobook deal for this series. The Lost God series was one of my favourite reads from last year and finally getting to hear it in audiobook was an absolute joy. I don't always re-read books, so listening to it on audiobook really gave me the BIG feels.

The book was slow and the world building could have been better. This was my first audiobook and hence my views may be skewed as I read much faster.
Overall the premise was good and it ends on a cliffhanger. I expect a trilogy for this one.

I listened to and ARC of this book received via NetGalley.
I has a lot of fun while listening to this book, the plot was familiar enough to allow me to enjoy without having to constantly worry about plot twists, it and different enough to keep me on my toes. The magic system was unique as I had never read anything similar. The main character was relatable, and I often found myself wanting to scream at her for her choices, which is a good thing, it means the story is immersive. I also enjoyed the romance, and although at times it was too sappy for me, I have high hopes for where it’s going.
I will definitely pick up the second book.

I was provided a copy of this title for free and am leaving this review voluntarily. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Rainer and Cecilia and Xander.

Cecilia’s journey of self discovery >

This book is an emotional rollercoaster the likes of which I promise you have never before experienced, and offers a bumpy ride with no shortage of obstacles to maneuver around. It’s not an easy journey, but it’s also the sort you never want to end. These characters have my entire heart.

Thank you to Shiela Masterson for allowing me to feel like I was reading this book again for the first time by listening to the audio. The narrators did an incredible job bringing the story to life.

3.75 ⭐️

this book was full of action-packed fighting scenes, quests through the kingdom, love triangles, tension-filled romance, and a badass fmc. for a debut novel, this was amazing!!

Cecelia is a memory witch who’s trying to release the power of the lost god by finishing the Gauntlet with her Guardian and best friend, Rainer. as they venture on their journey, hiccups occur, and a charming hunter joins them as they continue. a war is upon them and sacrifices are made as they fight for their life and face some unexpected twists and bumps in the road.

I really enjoyed this! the length of the book intimidated me but it was fast-paced and gripped your attention. this felt more like a romance with fantasy elements which i still really enjoyed. Cecelia is a fantastic fmc. brave, stubborn, and a little dependent on the men in her life lol. I loved the dynamics with her and Rainer and the hunter, although Rainer was starting to get on my nerves by the end of the book.

If you like YA fantasy that is more romance-heavy, love triangles, angsty scenes and some action-filled adventures, then you’ll enjoy this!

Sheila Masterson - The Lost God // ARC in exchange for a honest review

Cecilia is a memory witch who sacrifices blood for memories and her unrecquited, forbidden love for her best friend and guardian, Rainer, for the sake of her kingdom. Duty before anything else, Cece is ready to enter an arranged marriage. Then the god of war trows an attack that launches two kingdoms into an open war and causes Cece and Rainer to venture on a dangerous quest into enemy territory guided by a handsome stranger that takes a particular liking for out badass heorine.

Excuse me, this is a debut? WHY IS THIS SO UNDERRATED??? Seriously! I was amazed and shellshocked by how good this was!

Cece was a total badass and I loved her. She had great character growth and truly contact with her inner emotions, not something you see in every fantasy novel. Her forbidden love for Rainer and painstaking at the beginner, but enter Xander and my heart is blessed. I adored him. Yes he wasn’t perfect, but damn is anyone? He captured my heart for sure.

And let me just say, this book had a love triangle, and I freaking loved it! I don’t think I’ve enjoyed a love triangle as much as this one since Will-Jem-Tessa. It was amazing. I was truly never certain of her choice and both guys were terrible and great for her. How to choose…

Meddling gods, multiple plot twists, unique magic system, lovable characters, a badass heroine, A F*CKING AWFUL CLIFFHANGER (be sure to have book two). Seriously, what else do you need? PLEASE for the love of (the lost) god, read this book because it deserves all the hype it can get!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

I am new to liking audiobooks, and whoa is this one to listen to. Cecilia, she made me feel like I could get up and take on the freaking world!! Lots of action, and she doesn’t back down. Xander? He can do no wrong. HE CAN DO NO WRONG. I will not accept any questions or feedback on this. I mean, you are going to hurt listening/reading, and want to go to the second book immediately.

If you want fantasy, magic, witchy, romance, a love triangle, and some royals, you want to check out this book and the whole series. Shelia is a magician herself with how she spins worlds.

I really enjoyed the narrators really did a great job in my opinion. They can make or break a book.

Thank you to Dreamscape Media, Shelia Masterson, and also the narrators, Caitlin Kelly, Will Damion, and Tim Campbell. I appreciate having the opportunity to experience this audiobook and give my honest opinion.

This was a fun read if you're in the mood for romantasy. I was alternately brought into the different romances and didn't see several of the plot twists coming. The audiobook is well-narrated and it was a great vacation read.

2.5 Stars

-bodyguard romance
-love triangle
-witches and warriors
-betrayal
3/5 smut 🌶️
I only finished it because it was an audio arc otherwise I probably would have dnf’d it.
This was too much for me. I just sat there listening to the audiobook and rolling my eyes at everything. The insta-love was another strike for me, also all the touching 👀 even he says that he expects her not to accept his touch, then stop fucking touching her?

Ugh, I wouldn’t consider this to be Romantasy more Romance in a Fantasy setting. I’ve mentioned previously that I prefer my romantasy to be more evenly split (though I’m not opposed to it being romance leaning if the romance is good). I didn’t think the romance was that good. Everything they said to each other had me rolling my eyes and cringing.

They kissed before 26% and while I enjoy romance-heavy novels this was too quick for a romantasy, there wasn’t enough build-up or tension. The first spicy scene was at 38%. The first smut scene was at 40%.

I very rarely (if ever) do I enjoy love triangles and this was no different, I find them an annoying/shitty point of contention. Also this didn’t feel very love triangle to me. The dialogue didn’t flow quite right and sounded too modern for the setting, not to mention it was downright cheesy.

I liked the magic system and found the gods interesting, but there just wasn’t enough world building.
This one was just a miss for me, too many things made me cringe. The consensus seems positive, so if the blurb sounds interesting I would recommend giving it a go.

Buckle up for a wild ride!

After reading Song of the Dark Wood, I knew it was only a matter of time before I picked up The Lost God series. The first book in this series was so much fun to read. Our FMC is fierce in all she does and I loved reading a FMC who sticks to her guns and doesn't cave when pressured but those she loves. The love triangle in this has me all over the place and I don't know how that will resolve in a way that has a HEA bc both MMCs are so loveable. The magic system is very unique and I feel like we're only just learning what our girl is capable of! I can't wait to see what the gods get up to and where Cece's story will take us next 💞

✨ Thank you Netgally and Sheila for the ARC of the audiobook. The narrator was spectacular and I look forward to listening to the rest of the series. My views are my own ✨

I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to NetGalley for allowing me to preview this audiobook.

As I listen, currently at the 50% mark, I can relate to the experience of feeling drawn in at first. While the story begins beautifully, I’ve noticed that my interest has begun to fade. The plot does have a wonderful concept, but I can understand how the scattered narrative might make it difficult for others to stay completely engaged. I truly believe that if it were presented in a more cohesive way, it could touch listeners on a deeper level.

TLG was my introduction to the romantasy genre and remains one of my favorite series! Now that it’s available in audiobook format, the experience feels even more special. I found the magic system in this book to be unique and captivating. I love all the characters dearly, and I can’t wait to continue listening to their journey!
