The Lost God is the first book in the Lost Gods Series by author Sheila Masterson. In the Lost God we meet our main character, Cecilia who is strong with a little bit of a reckless streak. I really liked her and she was easy to root for. There is a love triangle present in the book, and I know people either love those or hate them so I wanted to point that out. I enjoy a love triangle if it is done well, and I really liked this one.
Cecilia is on a quest to release the lost god, and along the way she is joined by Rainer (her guardian) and Xander. I loved that there was a lot of romance in this book, and the pacing kept everything flowing along. A lot happens so there was really never a dull moment. I am super excited to continue on with the series and read the Memory Curse really soon! if you are a fan of fantasy romance with magic, lost gods, quest style adventures then I think you will really enjoy this book. And the narration was good. Although almost all of the book was told from Cecilia POV.

Thank you so much to Sheila for the opportunity to read and review this audiobook. I enjoyed The Lost God on initial read and was excited to revisit it as an audiobook. The narrator captured Cece so well along with Rainer and Xander. The journey everyone goes on is an Epic one, full of growth and pain and happiness. I'm excited to see how future audiobooks are adapted.

This romantasy series has been out for a few years and is now being released as an audiobook. It features three narrators, but 99.9% of the book is told from Cecelia's point of view, with the afterward including perspectives from our two male characters. All the narrators did a fantastic job of bringing the story to life.

The book follows Cecelia, a memory witch bound to her guardian, Rainer, since she was six years old. They share a soul bond, and she is in love with him, though her feelings are unreciprocated. Enter the mysterious hunter, Xander, who pays attention to her and allows her to be herself. Cecelia and Rainer are on a quest to complete the Gauntlet, a years-long journey meant to unleash the power of a lost god. Xander has been sent by Cecelia’s father to keep an eye on her, which complicates things.

The story is heavy on romance, with an 80/20 ratio of romance to other elements. It incorporates interesting mythology and magical systems, as well as battles and moments of death. However, the primary focus remains on the romance and Cecelia’s journey to understand the terms of the Gauntlet. I enjoyed the story and liked the characters, particularly Cecelia, who is adept in both battle and magic; she doesn't rely on others to save her and is more than capable of handling herself.

The love triangle that develops features one guy who falls for her first and ends up falling harder. There are a few spicy scenes included as well. Additionally, the narrative explores intriguing political dynamics between two warring kingdoms, including a tense moment when Cecelia and her friends venture behind enemy lines, resulting in the deaths of beloved characters. While the story is primarily romance-driven, it also weaves in fantastic fantasy elements that keep the plot engaging, ensuring readers root for the characters and experience an emotional rollercoaster.

This was a very solid romantasy debut and the audiobook version turned out amazing. The narrator did an awesome job, I really enjoyed listening to her.

The story itself is also very entertaining and the plot keeps you on your toes the whole time.
We get a love triangle with two amazing MMCs and some real spicy scenes. I thought they were very well written.
There are also some amazing twists, turns and betrayals and I definitely need to read the next book.

Thank you so much for the gifted ALC!

Updated Audiobook Review.

4⭐️ now that this is a completed series, I am able to appreciate the absolute genius of this story and the groundwork it lays for the overall journey. The narration is perfection and I cannot wait to listen to the rest of the series.

I really enjoyed the overall story and in the beginning of the book fell absolutely in love with the FMC, Cecelia. She is a badass (not going to spoil anything but there is one horse and arrows 💀). As the book went on, some of the plot progressions felt way too quick for me with not enough tension/build up thus eroding a bit of Cecelia’s strength as a character. That being said, I am curious if this was purposeful to help set up future plot points so I will absolutely be starting the second in this series.

Highlights:
✨Warrior Witch FMC 🏹⚔️
✨Epic Quest
✨Love Triangle
✨Unique Guardian/Soul Bond
✨One Horse 🏹

Favorite Quote: “The whole world will try to tell you who you are, but it’s your choice if you want to believe them.”

I really enjoyed this audiobook. The narration was very well done and it made the book come alive. I especially enjoyed the mens voices for the Xander and rainer at the end.
This book was a wild ride. The pacing was well done and while this book is quite long it did not drag and there was so much going on that I actually did not want it to end. This book has the kind of love triangle where you are not sure who she should end up with because they both love her in different and special ways. Cecilia is a very strong FMC whose character development throughout the book is very enjoyable to watch. Both Xander and Rainer have great character development as well. I am very excited for the next book and to see what happens with these three characters.

I am in love with The Lost God series and was so excited when Sheila let us know The Lost God, as well as the rest of the series, was going to be coming on audio.
I couldn't wait to re-experience this emotional series all over again through the audiobook. The narrators are top notch and capture the emotions of the characters so well.
I'm so happy to have been provided an ARC of this audiobook and highly recommend this series to anyone looking for an angsty, emotional romance that has lighter fantasy elements.

The Lost God by Sheila Masterson is a captivating fantasy that immediately pulls readers into the rich, atmospheric world of Cecilia, a Memory Witch, caught in a tangled web of duty, power, and forbidden love. Masterson expertly weaves a tale of two kingdoms on the brink of war, each vying for an ancient power that could shift the balance in their favor. The stakes are high, and every turn of the page adds depth to the tension and complexity of Cecilia’s journey.

Cecilia, known for her power and resilience, has sacrificed everything, her blood, her pride, and even her secret, unrequited love for her guardian, Rainer. Her ultimate goal is to complete the Gauntlet and unleash the legendary power of the Lost God, a feat that demands not only skill but also profound personal sacrifice. But as the god of war stirs, driving the two kingdoms from quiet tension into full-blown conflict, Cecilia finds herself on a journey that challenges everything she knows.

Accompanied by Rainer and a captivating new hunter who offers Cecilia a glimpse of the life she might have led, she faces trials that test her spirit and resolve. Masterson’s vivid descriptions bring to life Cecilia’s treacherous path through enchanted forests, encounters with memory-stealing hunters, and encounters with gods who speak in maddening riddles. At the heart of it all, Cecilia must make a choice: her kingdom or her heart.

The narrators, Caitlin Kelly, Will Damron, and Tim Campbell, add a dynamic intensity and believability to the story. Caitlin Kelly embodies Cecilia’s strength and vulnerability, while Damron and Campbell bring Rainer and the charming hunter to life, capturing the contrasting personalities that fuel the book’s thrilling love triangle. Their performances amplify the tension, drawing listeners deeper into Cecilia’s world and making each twist feel all the more urgent and heart-wrenching.

The Lost God is a perfect read for anyone who loves a complex fantasy world, high-stakes adventure, and a love triangle that keeps you guessing. Masterson crafts a spellbinding tale of love, loyalty, and sacrifice that will linger long after the final chapter.

Thank you to Dreamscape Media and Sheila Masterson for the advance copy of the audiobook. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.

I’m honestly torn on *The Lost God*—there’s a lot to appreciate, but also some parts that made me scratch my head. The premise has so much potential: a blend of fantasy, intriguing world-building, and a magic system that’s definitely interesting (though a little confusing at times). I could see the foundation for a really exciting series here, but the execution left me feeling a bit... conflicted.

One of the biggest hurdles for me was the dialogue. It often felt choppy and stilted, which made it hard to fully immerse myself in the story or connect with the characters. Speaking of characters… One of the biggest challenges for me was connecting with any of them. They had potential, but their development felt lackluster and surface-level; I never really felt like I got to know them beyond the basics. I wasn’t emotionally invested in their struggles or growth, which made it hard to care about what happened to them.

Then there’s the romance, which, frankly, didn’t win me over. We’re dealing with some serious insta-love here—one of those completely unearned connections that’s hard for me to buy into. To top it off, there’s a love triangle, which is pretty much a dealbreaker for me in most books. It never felt earned, and instead of being intriguing, it just left me frustrated.

As for the pacing—it’s fast, no doubt about that, and there’s a lot happening. The action scenes are pretty exciting, and there are a couple of plot twists that kept me on my toes. There’s also a very decent amount of spice, which I wasn’t expecting. But despite all the action and drama, I found it difficult to care, because I didn’t feel invested in the characters journey.

This is book 1 in a 4-book series, and while I’m not fully hooked yet, I’m still curious to see where the story goes next. I’m hoping the pacing will smooth out and that the characters will get more time to develop in the coming books. There’s enough promise here to think the series could find its footing as it goes along, so for now, I’m cautiously optimistic. It’s a bit of a mixed bag, but I’m willing to give it another shot.

I don't normally do audiobooks but figured I'd give them a try. I hadn't read this book but it's been on my TBR. I was hooked on the story. It did take me a minute to get into the story, I was confused because it just dives in. But then I couldn't stop listening to the story. I loved it and now need to read the rest of the series!!
