Interesting concept that falters a bit on its execution. I liked Kai a lot as a main character, and Avan is great too, if a little bit less fleshed out. There is some love triangle action but it is minimal.

Unfortunately this wasn't the book for me. I was new to reviewing when I received this book and found it wasn't of interest to me.

it took my a long time to get started in this book. Evertime I started in it, I just lay it aside. I had to really push myself to finish this story. So that wasn’t a very good sign for my review of this story. I had hoped it was a more fantasy story but from my stand of view, it was more about romance then magic and stuff. I just couldn’t stand Kai. , I just had difficulty connecting to characters. The writing was good and the pacing worked. And close to the end of the book everthing got beter. But I guess it just wasn’t my read. Hope someone else will like it more!

I unfortunately was not able to read this book. I was excited when ever I had chosen to download or pick this book up on Netgalley. However, time moves by so quickly and I never got to read it.

Thanks for the advanced readers copy. I was not able to get into this one, so I won't be proving a review on social media.

I requested this one back in the day as I had every intention of reading it. However, its been years and I still haven't gotten around to it and while I feel guilty at not reviewing a book I think that I need to admit to myself that I won't be reading this one anytime soon....if at all.

First off, the cover is gorgeous and the main reason I chose to read Gates of Thread and Stone. Kai is some girl living in the bad part of a city with a secret, she can hold and adjust the threads of time. While she and her brother just want to get on with their lives, it's clear that will become impossible (otherwise, no one would write a book about it).

This book actually worked quite well for me. I've been reading a number of Dystopians lately, and many disappointed me in several ways, but I enjoyed this one. There is a lot going on, especially in the beginning, but I liked Kai's story and that made it okay. I was not such a big fan of the romance that was weaved through the story, but since it was still an enjoyable read, it didn't bother me too much. I'm curious to see where the story is going from here.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

It started out great. But after Reev disappears, the pace slows to a near standstill. This is even more glaring in the middle as Kai trains to rescue her brother. This whole time, her thoughts are centered on Avan, and it got old fast because you’d think there’d be more development in their relationship. They’re angsty the whole time, and their relationship only slightly steps forward near the end.

Setting wise, where was this? Was it supposed to be Earth? Another planet? A time before recorded history (with metal machinery…probably not)? I just never got a good feeling of the setting. There were some descriptions, but nothing ever felt real for me. I didn’t visualize things clearly nor did I find the world realistic because it simply wasn’t well developed.

I had this read to me through Audible, and the narrator was fantastic. She had an off-beat manner in how the story came through her voice, and I really liked it. Unfortunately, the storyline just was not well realized, and the characters weren’t developed. Interesting concept, but the powers Kai possessed were never utilized well, so on top of everything else, the magic of the world fell flat.

Unfortunately, I'm unable to review this book. I've tried to go back to it several times and it just can't keep my interest. I've read up to 40% but can't keep forcing myself to complete. I apologize for any issues this might cause.
