Brian Wasson’s Two Truths and a Lionel is a clever and laugh-out-loud blend of mystery, humor, and heart. With a protagonist as endearing as he is awkward, this story explores themes of honesty, self-discovery, and the hilarity of navigating life’s unexpected twists. Packed with sharp dialogue and unpredictable turns, Wasson delivers a thoroughly entertaining read that will keep you guessing—and grinning—until the very end. A quirky delight for fans of heartfelt mysteries!
This is such a cute and fun read!! I love the witty banter in this story and it really brings me back to the fun times of high school, hanging out with your friends and figuring out who you are.
The plot of the story is simple enough. Lionel becomes internet famous after an edited video of him saving someone goes viral on social media. The catch is that he didn’t perform the heroic act that he’s being lauded for. He goes through the next weeks hoping not to be found out while also reveling in his new fame.
I love how this book is very age appropriate. I sometimes read books before I gift them to my children, nieces and nephews and this is a true young adult book that I would feel comfortable allowing my teenage kids to read.
Lionel really grows up throughout the book as a character and his personality changes for the better. He finally realizes who he should really admire and emulate as opposed to trying to be like his grandfather, the famous action star. I enjoyed the plot of the story as well. Even though Lionel and Mickey were supposed to be enemies, it gave more of two friends who had a misunderstanding and didn’t try to figure out how to mend it. It didn’t feel like they were enemies at all. But when you’re a teenanger, even the smallest misunderstandings can cause you to feel like you hate someone.
I love the way that the author captures the feeling of high school in a cute way. Although I never experienced bullying in High School, I know that’s some people’s reality and I believe that it was done tastefully.
I would definitely read more of the authors work and suggest this book to other parents looking for an age appropriate read for their kids.
This had a realism that I was hoping for from the description. The characters were everything that I was hoping for in this type of book and enjoyed the journey of these characters. I enjoyed the way Brian Wasson wrote this and was glad I got to read this.
