Right from the start you just know that Evelyn has endured some type of trauma. She hasn’t given her co-worker, Matteo much thought until he comes to her rescue. While both have scars from their pasts, the potential to delve into them just wasn’t there. Maybe if those were explored deeper, I would’ve connected more to the characters and the story. The ending was way too rushed. Overall it was just ok. I am curious to see what’s next for the Tres Santos girls and hope their stories unfold a bit better.

Even though the main characters are from different social backgrounds, it shows that abuse has no class boundaries and the effect that has on everyone.

I enjoyed this book. It pulled you right in and kept you turning the pages. This book was well written and I had no issues following the story. It tied into the other books in the series well.

I enjoyed this book. I remember feeling annoyed at Evelyn at how easily she judged Mateo early on. But she quickly changed her tune when he helped her out. I really liked them together.

I read the third in the series a couple years ago and enjoyed it. My favorite part about this book is the Philly and Main Line setting. It had potential with Mateo’s protectiveness and Evelyn’s past. In the end, I couldn’t move past the slut shaming or judgmental way both rich kids and Latin culture was presented.

DNF.....this book wasn't for me. I won't be formally reviewing or rating this book. It has nothing to do with the author or writing, I just couldn't connect with the story.

Evelyn Preston’s life is turned upside down the day of her father’s death and all of the allegations. Now going from a rich life to living in an apartment with her only true friend. She is working at a bar and is going to a community college trying to get through with her nursing degree, and move on. The bouncers at the bar are like the girls she works with really very little talk they think all the same of her, at least her mind. That is until Mateo the head Bouncer helps her one day and little by little her shell starts to drop. When one of the other bouncers makes a joke about her cookies that she brought in as a thank you she starts slowly feeling like one of the group. She is attracted to Mateo and he is to her, but each of them are tied to their past. When she goes to one of his fights she begins to understand a little because she hears his story and what happened to him when he stood up for his sister. Now the problem is they want to be together but there is no time between work, school, and his nights when he needs to fight for extra money. The real story is how they make the other want to be better and succeed. There is a lot going on in this book but it all works with the story. The characters are good, and they help make this book work as well. Overall this is a very good book.
