A great conclusion to the Mihi Ever After series.
It was touch and go for Mihi and friends throughout this book, but I thought the ending was perfect. With the way it ended, I could see a possible spin off or a revisiting of these characters in the future. Who knows, we will have to wait and see. :)
Triya Leong did a great job narrating this book. Quite often when narrators try to narrate children their voices end up being screechy, but that was not the case with Triya's narration. I would 100% listen to children's books narrated by Triya in the future.
Mihi, Reese, and Savannah love adventure, until they are trapped in the Rainbow Realm. The adventure turns into a mission to get home before the portals disappear forever. The three kids must put themselves in the stories they’ve grown up loving; however, if they don’t do it fast enough, they could be stuck in one of those fated fairy tales forever.
It is important to note that this is the fourth book in the series and when I read the description, I missed that part. This review is based off of me reading it WITHOUT reading the previous three. I would definitely say you need to read the previous stories in order to fully understand this book. The characters reference things which happened in other books (I guess), and while I could infer some of the information, I definitely felt a little lost at times. I really enjoyed the occasional references to other fairy tales throughout the book but if the reader isn’t familiar with the stories, they may not make the same connections. Mihi, Reese, and Savannah work well together throughout the book, and I love the teamwork displayed. Since this was the audiobook version, I also want to comment about the narrator. When she was speaking as Mihi, Reese, or the other characters, it was a good fit and easy to enjoy. However, the high-pitched voice used for the youngest was hard to listen to. Overall, I liked the book but I think I would have enjoyed it better reading the other books first.
In this fourth book in the Mihi Ever After series, Mihi and her friends have just realized that the portal back to their world has disappeared, and they must rely on their previous knowledge and connections in both the Rainbow Realm and in their own world in order to get back home. This is an easy to read fantasy series which is perfect for those readers who are just starting to explore worlds beyond our own. There is just enough tension to keep the plot moving and the writing is easy to follow without it being pedantic. While I’m not sure this could be successful as a stand-alone, the first three books in the series are worth a read as well. Also worth noting, the narrator in the audio version was not my favorite for some of the voices–far too shrill and high pitched for my ears.
Thank you to Netgalley and the author/publisher for a copy of this audiobook.
This had potential to be a cute fantasy/adventure book for kids but without reading the others, I think the storyline got lost a little bit for me. I still think the young people in my family would enjoy it though. My only negative feedback is the narrator's voice was extremely shrill and hard to listen to after a while.
