I think this might be the first book by this author that I actually liked. I think it's because FMC is a former CIA Analyst who's life falls apart. And me liking it shocked me because I tend to not like second chance romances. As I don't think they are realistic because the break's up always over something stupid. But with this one it was believable because two eighteen year old kids have no business getting married.

*3.5 stars*

This book was fun! It was a clean, funny romance with some deep themes. However, I didn't love the writing style, the dark themes were handled poorly (in my opinion), and the romance just felt weird in ways I can't explain without spoilers.

First off, the writing style. For some reason this book is dual POV (Wes and Addie) with Addie's POV in first person and Wes's in third person. It was... a choice? Honestly, it wasn't awful, it was just kinda weird in my opinion. Also, there was a TON of telling and not showing. I didn't really feel anything while reading this book.

The dark themes were just written badly. They could have been really impactful, but all of the deaths of characters (why is there so much death in this book? It's actually wild) and other traumatic events are mentioned like every once in a while for a sentence to say "Yeah, *insert death* was sad. Anyways, love is great!" and the that just didn't sit well with me.

There is some kinda weird situations regarding Wes and Addie's relationship, and I don't really like how that was handled either. It just made me uncomfortable. And I found Addie to actually be kind of an annoying FMC...

It was paced pretty well, and I liked the friendship aspects, but this book was just not what I expected, and the writing wasn't for me.

Wes and Addie had their chance

He is a senator running for POTUS , and She is ex CIA. But thats not how they meet. Wes and Addie teenage lovers and 20 years ago Wes left Addie at the alter, and since then everyone in town hates Wes and sympathies with Addie.
What will happen after 20 years they will run into each other??? Will sparks fly or will they realise that they never moved on..
Both the characters are well written and the story shares what happened between them, how they shaped their lives in these 20 years and how the void remained hidden. This truly feels like a Second Chance Romance ♥️♥️

Due to triggers in this book I couldn’t finish it. I tried. I’m so sorry. A lot of death and grief and I personally couldn’t handle that. I appreciate being approved for the book.

I honestly truly enjoyed going back to Adelaide Springs for the 3rd time. I love that I get. A little bit more from all the characters. This book was great. 40+ MCs and it's so good to have a break from books with 20 something as the MCs. This book was about second chances, the 2 MCs have complex past lives that they created after their wedding didn't happen when they were 18. The characters were far from perfect with lived mistakes but both owning those mistakes as the work out how to move forward.

Thankyou for the chance to review.

This is the third book in a series, following Brynn and Sebastian Hate Each Other and Cole and Laila are Just Friends.

I enjoyed this small town second chance romance book a lot! It was great to see the whole friend group from Adelaide Springs finally reunite after all the discussion of their group having been scattered in the first two books.

This book follows politician and widower Wes, escaping the campaign trail to visit his hometown right as a scandal is about to break and ruin his chances at taking office. It also follows former CIA analyst and widow Addie, who has been back in town for a while after the tragic death of her husband.

Wes and Addie are NOT ready to run into each other in Adelaide Springs. When Wes jilted Addie at the altar and broke her heart over 20 years ago, they thought they'd seen the last of each other. When Addie goes to the airport to pick up a new arrival in town, only to see that it's Wes, their reunion starts out rocky. Both Wes and Addie have been through trauma and heartbreak through the years since their almost-wedding, and this allows them to bond and rekindle their friendship and eventually even their love.

This book is definitely not a lighthearted read as it tackles tough topics and follows two main characters who have been through a lifetime of tragedy. I would still absolutely recommend this one, especially for fans of the first two books in this series!

This is the final book in this series. It wasn’t my favorite from this series but it was nice closure for the trilogy.
I received an advanced reader copy. The opinion expressed is entirely my own.

What is this, the book of Job?!

So, here’s the thing - I don’t think many people pick up books of this style title with a kitschy little cover of happy cartoon friends to lovers to be pummeled by little tidbits of trauma in the first 10%. Spoiler: but like, everybody died. Addie’s mom died (sad), Addie’s fiance died (poor girl), Wes’ fiancé died (omg!!), Wes’ mom died (WTH!!), Wes’ dad died. I’m afraid to keep going, who else is going to die?! What kind of diseased town are we in here?! Did I inadvertently pick up the wrong book (checks cover)? Goodness!

I really enjoyed ONE book by this author and I keep hoping for another really good one I love but dang it I need to let go. She rambles - lots and lots of internal monologue and thought that makes me zone out and dream of other books. Just.so.monotonous.

BUT, I couldn’t bring myself to DNF it. It had enough feels to make me want to go through the story and find out what led to where Wes and Addie were. And I did enjoy the general story and the chemistry between them and the intel on their fancy careers was fun. So, in the end I didn’t hate it as much as I started out thinking I would, but sadly I wouldn’t recommend it.

This book is part of a series but can be read as a standalone.

3.5 ⭐️

This one took me a while to get into. I think partly because I hadn't read the other books leading up to it and partly because the formatting for Kindle ARC's can be wonky. A couple times I contemplated not finishing, but I'm glad I persisted and made it to the end.

Wes and Addie's story is unlikely many rom-com style books. They are in their 40's, have both lived a lot of life, and have both endured heartbreak and hardship. It was refreshing to read how a mistake from 20+ years ago was discussed and handled as mature adults and to see reflected the vulnerability and humility and wisdom that often (although not always) comes with age.

There were a few minor things that were not my preference but I think overall it was a sweet, second-chance story that modeled forgiveness, listening over being heard, and how much better life is when you are allowing others in your life in a real and genuine way.

I loved the first two books in this series and I was excited to spend more time in Adelaide Springs, Colorado. I enjoyed this book, but I think I enjoyed the first two better. I did love that this one had some more depth to it.

This was a beautiful second chance romance read, following Addie who was left at the altar two decades ago by her childhood friend Wes, now that they've both had their fair share of " life" happen to them can Addie's decision to returning to Adelaide Springs rekindle what they once had? What I loved about this book was that even though parts of the book felt a bit jumpy, the communication between the two of them was like actual adults this for me made the storyline much more enjoyable (miscommunication trope in books personally is a hit or miss for me)

This is my first read for the author definitely will come back to her, on that note I wasn't aware this was a series (they can be read as standalones as each book follows different characters )

The cover and the premise drew me in. I had read and enjoyed the other books in the series, and I had high hopes that I would also like this one. Sadly, I did not. I almost DNF'ed it but decided to give the book a fair chance. Unfortunately, my opinion of the book didn't change. The main characters’ interactions felt less than believable and trite. There were so many secrets and issues that it left the story feeling forced. At one point, the heroine revealed a secret about herself that hadn't even been hinted at until that moment. In the end, I didn't enjoy it.

Wes and Addie Had Their Chance, by Bethany Turner, is a well-written, second chances romcom. This one had me laughing out loud a few times. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with the ARC ebook I read and reviewed. All opinions are my own.

Thank you to Netgalley for the arc! Fans of Bethany Turner will undoubtedly love this latest addition to the Adelaide Springs friends series. The political component added an interesting spin to an engaging second-chance rom com. I devoured it in days! This is not a spicy novel, so it's very appropriate for any age, and I look forward to adding it to my high school media center.

I didnt realize this book was a stand-alone but last book in a trilogy until I started reading and was like, wait, I think theres more to this story. Wes and Addie were interesting charcaters. There were a few plot conviencnes. I was surprised how quickly forgiceness was given and how humble and apologetic Wes was. A love a small town romance, and am intrigued by Laila and Cole so I already bought their book which was on sale at amazon. If you want a breezy read this is a good choice. Thanks to Net Galley and Thomas Nelson for this eARC in exchange for my honest review.

This is the third in a connected series of Adelaide Springs stories. It is a beautiful second chance romance with themes of grief, forgiveness, and growing up. I loved the older romance (main characters are in their 40s), the small town setting, and deep friendships that are present in this book. The rekindling of the romance felt a bit rushed after the years of absence and pain the characters felt, but overall, it is a lovely conclusion to a well done series.

*Wes and Addie Had Their Chance* follows Addie, who, after being left at the altar by Wes years ago, returns to her hometown after her husband’s death. Wes, now running for president, unexpectedly crosses paths with Addie, sparking old emotions and questions of forgiveness. Addie’s ability to move on and embrace life’s challenges is inspiring, while Wes seems unaffected by his past mistake. The book offers a powerful lesson in letting go and finding closure, though there are some distracting grammatical errors. It’s a slow-paced yet heartfelt story for readers interested in reconciliation and moving forward.

I haven't read the other books in this series yet so I didn't understand the backstory of the 2 other couples that live in the small town in Colorodo but honestly I think this book , doesn't require understanding of the side characters. I have read others books from the Author before though.

Spice Level: make out sessions but no sex detailed.
Tropes: Second Chance Romance, Rom-Com
Angsty? Yes
Ages: The fmc and mmc are 41

I thought the story was really well told. I lived Addie, she was resilient and tough. She had been through a lot and overcame it. First her fiancée leaves her without any explanation ( Wes) at 18. Then in her late 30s her husband was killed and since he worked ( as she did) on a secret federal alphabet agency mission she wasn't allowed to discuss his death. Grieving in silence led to a alcohol affection which led to her being let go from her job and flexing back to her hometown to work with a cab service.

Wes is a senator from CT and lost his wife, who was his best friend to cancer.Their marriage wasnt romantic as she was a lesbian. He comes back to his hometown seeking out a reporter to break his story due to a potential scandal breaking about him diling for divorce from his dying wife.

By chance Addie picks up Wes and all of the hurt and pain rushes back to her. She doesnt want his excuses for leaving her 22 years prior at the alter. He wants their friendship back. He also wants to drop out of the presidential race.

I thought the angst level was good but I didn't completely buy that Addie woukd let bygones be bygones in less then a week of Wes trying to woo her again. She seemed to forgive way too quickly given the walls she put up at first.

I also thought that although Wes was noble in his intentions towards Addie that he never felt the same way about her that she felt about him either padt or present. She clearly loved her husband but she guarded her heart but Wes tries to break down those barriers.

I wanted to see more apologies and more groveling from Wes. I mean this woman waited for him for years , with some hope he would come back to her before she moved on with life. He moved on right away and chose platonic love from his wife and a successful career in politics over a romantic relationship with Addie.

Wes tells Addie he'd do things differently if he had a choice but didn't necessarily regret his actions. He missed Addie but longed and pined for her? I didn't get that sense. I wanted to see pineing and longing of Addie from him.

He didn't seem to be sorry enough for the pain he caused to Addie and that really bothered me. Was their second chance at Love sweet? Absolutely 💯 but I wanted to see more effort from him over 22 years or at least Addie being the real reason he came back to CO ( she wasnt).

I have to say this book was organized somewhat in a confusing way. The portions for the fmc, Addie are in 1st person but then there's GH sections ( I assume Governor Hobbes) but also in first person. I wasnt sure why there was a distinction. I got the cute titles that had dates or number of days since x happened but I never understood distinguishing GH and Addie's povs.

Then there were chapters for the MMC, Wesley in 3rd person. Which again threw me off but I assumed the whole series was like that. Also there were a bunch of run on words, wasn't sure if there were done on purpose.
