I found the story to be reminiscent of the movie “Pretty Woman” in that a rich man goes Pygmalion on a shopgirl with a wild-child bestie, but with a twist of an abusive husband and a roommate who is in love with her to compete for her attention/affection. There is even mention of the movie, comparing of similarities and difference of situation, bringing into the book the author’s awareness of her inspiration for this book. The tone is a big crude, and the characters are not developed well, though the storyline has potential –depending on the following books in the series. I would read a continuation to find out how the plot wraps up, but that is due to curiosity rather than admiration of the author.
I didn't care for this book. The characters for me just never became likable and I never really had any feelings towards them over than confusion and irritation at their behavior. This book was filled with so much insecurity and indecision. I realize that the hero and heroine in this story are somewhat damaged and that they are working around that but they almost seemed like they needed to just let things go with one another. Not a fan of this one and disliked the repetitiveness of the writing.
