I so wanted to like this title because I love the other Ally Condie books, but this was a bit boring and I had trouble finishing it. Thank you Netgalley for allowing me to read this title.
Atlantia is amazing. I absolutely love this author. The worlds and characters she creates are awesome. There are lovely themes of courage and being true to yourself. The sisters Rio and Bay are fantastic.
I found the premise of this story fascinating, especially what I saw about Atlantia, but it was not carried out all that well. The story dragged and there was some awkward writing moments/scenes. The ending was just a jumble of sudden realizations that left me feeling flat.
From the synopsis and the cover art, it is implied that this is going to be a mermaid story. It is not. It is a dystopian taking place in an city enclosed underwater. This wouldn't be a problem, except for the fact that I wasn't even able to finish Condie's other dystopian series, Matched. If I would have known I was heading into another dystopian, I probably would have passed on this one.
Luckily this just a sneak peak and I didn't waste anymore time or money on this. That being said the little peaks we get of the book don't seem great with the characters feeling pretty flat and boring.
This book is not my type of book however I know how my friends and family like this author so that's why I gave it 3***
I have a love/hate relationship with Ally Condie's writing. I loved Matched, but thought the other two books in the trilogy were awful. With this preview for Atlantia, I thought it was just okay. It didn't captivate me or anything, but I can see that it does have a lot of potential to get better later on in the book. I plan on picking this up and finishing it at some point, but there are definitely other books that I want to get to first.
This sneak peek definitely left me wanting more. I'm looking forward to getting my hands on the novel and finding out more
Thank you for the sneak peek--this review is just to acknowledge that I received the sneak peek, but did not submit a review for it. I want to submit it before the new review submissions go into effect on August 14.
