Twists right until the end

So after reading the description of this book, I was pretty sure of how the story was going to develop and end. I have read other thrillers with a similar description. But NOPE, this one was super wild and crazy! Lots of twists and turns that I did not guess at all!

Sabrina recently was let go from her position as a librarian. She's working at a bookstore in the interim, just trying to get by. Her luck changes when Theo Dorsey, the heir to the wealthy Dorsey empire, recruits her to restore the library in his family's beautiful mansion. Things seem a little strange at first,...Sabrina isn't allowed on the third floor of the house. And the housekeeper has so many rules. But Sabrina doesn't care. She has somewhere to live and is making more money than her old job. And her boss, Theo, is super chill and friendly. Except, Theo is soon connected to a local missing woman, as he was the last one to see her alive. But it's not just that. Theo is also connected to a missing woman from a few years ago. And the last librarian disappeared without a trace. Sabrina begins to wonder if the job is worth it...

Super fast-paced and exciting read! I cannot get over how twisted it was! I really loved that Angela Henry drew upon her own experience as a librarian to add in another interesting element to this story. She is a very talented writer. Definitely will be picking up more of her reads.

Sabrina believes her life is changing for the better when she is hired by wealthy Theo Dorsey to catalog his family’s massive private library on their estate. However, as soon as she moves in she is uneasy and frightened. Mrs. Manning, the housekeeper, gives Sabrina a long list of rules, including locking her door at night and never going to the third floor. Detective Jared Green finds her to warn her that Theo is connected with missing and murdered women. When the book really takes off, the twists and turns are very surprising. Pay close attention when you are reading, characters may not be who you think they are! With thanks to Netgalley and Storm Publishing for this ARC. My opinions are my own.

This is a book that had utterly predictable bits, off the wall bits and "you what?" bits but at least kept you reading. A tall dark handsome man met Sabrina, a book shop assistant and persuaded her to take a fixed-term post cataloguing his family library. She agreed, for various reasons, and took up the post only to find the housekeeper from hell with all sorts of very detailed and specific rules. Some reasonable enough, others no. Naturally our librarian hadn't quite got the literary qualifications she implied she had but did enjoy working with books. There were a few missing women along the way, misunderstandings as to what the tdh man was doing, or not, with them, a mystery on the third floor and our Sabrina began to think all was not what it seemed. At last. Family secrets indeed. All sorted in the end. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy.

I previously read The Perfect Affair by Angela Henry and absolutely love it. So, when I saw she had a new book out, I knew I had to read it. This was no exception. This was a phenomenal ride with twist after twist that kept me on the edge of my seat until the very end. Angel Henry is officially an auto read for me. If you're looking for a psychological thriller to keep you guessing, this one is for you. I definitely recommend

4.5 stars - This book was unhinged and a wild ride. I need not see any of the many, many twists that happened in the final 5% of the book. You will have to suspend belief for a few of the twists but overall a fun read.

The characters were well developed and I loved the idea of the main character doing library restoration. This is my first book I have read by Angela Henry and I would absolutely read more by her.

Thank you to NetGalley, author Angela Henry and Storm publishing for the ARC and opportunity to review this book.

While it was a little bit of a slow burn the ending made up for it. Many times I thought I had it all figured out but in the end I was thrown for a loop.

It was gripping in the end but it did take quite a while for that build up, hence the 4⭐️ review. There were quite a few characters that sometimes was a little hard to keep up with, but the main character’s development was well done.

This was a first read by this author but I will definitely look into reading more.

This was an interesting book. It didn't exactly suck me in from the beginning and some parts of it seemed to drag. But around the 75% mark, it hit the gas and never let off. There were several things revealed that I absolutely did not see coming. Overall, a good read and I would recommend.

"Every family has secrets, the Dorseys bury theirs."
The Family Lies is a psychological thriller that focuses on family secrets, deception and trust all while seamlessly building up the suspense. This book follows Sabrina Adams as she begins her new job as a private librarian for the mysterious Dorsey family. She seem to have bitten off more than she can chew when unsettling things start to happen. As a live-in librarian she must follow a rigid set of rules enforced by the formidable housekeeper Mrs. Manning. Theo Dorsey is a tall, dark and handsome charmer, but fractures in his facade start to show. Especially when the police question him about a missing woman. Sabrina doesn't know who to trust, who to turn to, or who to believe. This book was paced a little slowly in the beginning but it is all building up to the twists which come at lightning speed towards the end. You start to piece everything together and understand the motivations behind everybody's actions and lies. By the end of the book everything gets wrapped up nicely. Overall this was a good read with plenty of twists to keep you saying "just one more chapter."
Thank you to NetGalley, Storm Publishing, and Angela Henry for this ARC opportunity.
Expected publishing date is January 22nd 2025.

An old mansion full of secrets and creepy inhabitants, a young heroine who moves in to restore the big, old library, literary and pop culture references and a mysterious tall, dark and handsome love interest? Sign me up! I really enjoyed the first part of this novel. Sabrina had a lot of issues, but despite all her flaws I was rooting for her. The housekeeper gives off serious Mrs. Danvers vibes and the whole situation was intriguing. Some chapters focus on other characters besides Sabrina and both added surprising twists. Unfortunately, after this great setup of a brilliant premise, the execution felt lacking. Some characters lie for no reason, get caught and move on like nothing happened (which begs the question, why add something that does nothing for the overall plot?) Intriguing situations don’t go anywhere and what could have added suspense were brushed over or not included at all. I’m glad to see that other readers are enjoying this book, it was not for me.
I chose to read this book and all opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased. Thank you, NetGalley/Storm Publishing.

The secret to a good twisty thriller is to keep the reader guessing. This is exactly what Angela Henry accomplishes really well in “The Family Lies”.

Sabrina Adams is in between jobs. She’s hasn’t quite finished school to be a librarian, but she isn’t letting that stop her from trying to get jobs as a librarian. This has caused her to be fired from her job. She’s now working part time in a used bookstore. She lives with her sister, Cami, who is former military, and has a drinking problem, just like their mother. Cami is married to Bruce, who, while not a major character by any means, seems to quite a scumbag.

Theo Dorsey, tall dark and handsome, and also rich, as he’s the namesake of Dorsey Snacks, comes into the bookstore and starts chatting with Sabrina. He wants to go get a coffee with her. While getting coffee, he offers her a live-in job restoring and cataloging his family’s private library at their estate.

When she arrives at the mansion for her first day of work, Sabrina knows there is some weirdness afoot! There’s a list of rules that Mrs. Manning, the caretaker of the mansion, tells Sabrina she has to live by, including never going up to third floor, and not leaving her room after midnight.

I don’t want to give too much away, but this was really fun. There’s murder, and mystery in this book, and it’s really fun! Kept me guessing the whole time, and twists and turns make sense. There’s nothing here that makes you roll your eyes, or get annoyed. Definitely recommend checking this one out!

Sabrina is excited when she gets a job at the wealthy Dorsey estate. But when she finds out her predecessor is missing and then a woman her employer, Theo, is seeing also disappears, Sabrina knows something is not right. The buildup to the big reveal in this book was good. I wasn't expecting the twist to be what it was and I was impressed. This book was hard to put down and I zoomed through it. I'm glad I got to read it.

I loved the twists and turns of this thriller! Half way I found myself having a hard time putting it down, it was a nice, slow burn. As you get closer to the last third of the book, I was definitely overwhelmed with the amount of storylines and characters that were introducing their new roles in the book. I found the writing to be easy to follow and the characters were someone I could imagine. I will say that I definitely did not expect that ending, and those are the types of books I tend to always want to read!

Sabrina Adams thought her luck had finally changed when she accepted a position as a librarian for the affluent Dorsey family. Yet, as she steps into their lavish estate, an uneasy feeling washes over her. Things take a turn when police arrive, questioning her about a local woman who has gone missing. Sabrina is taken aback to learn that her charismatic employer, Theo Dorsey, was the last person seen with the woman. He maintains his innocence, but then a connection to another woman’s death from years past emerges. Sabrina can't help but think... Is it possible that I’m the next target? Since apparently, the Dorsey’s ex-librarian has been MIA for years.

I'm a huge fan of psychological thrillers and always try to solve them ahead of time. However, I completely missed the mark with this one—I was utterly surprised by that ending. The author masterfully sets the atmosphere and brings her characters to life. The different perspectives added incredible depth, making the story even more captivating. I was constantly questioning what was truly happening in that house and what secrets everyone was hiding, Each new clue had me rethinking everything, and the suspense was so well-crafted. This book definitely made me say, "Wait ... What?" towards the end.

Thank You NetGalley and Storm Publishing for allowing me to review this book.

This book is a fast-paced thriller that kept me hooked from start to finish. The writing is crisp and engaging, with twist after twist that made it nearly impossible to put down. Each chapter left me wanting more, and I found myself eagerly turning the pages to uncover the next surprise.

However, while the story is undeniably gripping, the shifting perspectives between first-person and third-person points of view were a bit confusing at times. It disrupted the flow slightly, leaving me wishing for more clarity in transitions.

I also feel the book would have been even more compelling if we got to hear more from Belle Dorsey’s perspective—especially after the accident—or from Lucas’s point of view about how she came to live at the Dorsey estate. These added layers could have deepened the story and given us more insight into their characters.

Overall, though, it’s a fantastic read that I’d recommend to anyone looking for a thrilling and unpredictable ride.

Lasty, I want to give my thanks to NetGalley, Storm Publishing and Angela Henry for allowing me to read this ARC!
